SI: Do you have a secret ambition?
Igawa: That's secret.

They featured a series of really tasteless commercials the past 2 years which showed highlights from the few games where the O's got to an opponent. Alright - fine, I expect you to show the Birds playing some good ball, but they took it a step further by mocking a player on the opposing team, having a fan deliver the message. It reminded me of the playground at recess in elementary school.Originally Posted by Mark19
Ripken and Angelos used each other. If Cal was at a ballgame, they showed him on the Jumbotron ad nauseam. They continued to have Ripken "Giveaway nights/days" where his t-shirt or some other item featuring him was the lure. At some point, Ripken could have said, "Okay, I appreciate the gesture, but let's move on." Sure, he has earned his place in history, but I'm sure O's fans would have a problem if Jeter did a little tour of Camden Yards, stood beside Babe Ruth's statue
and remarked, "You guys know he never played for Baltimore, right?"

Holy sh*t, that's beyond pathetic. I would be embarrassed if I was an Oriole fan.Originally Posted by Mark19

Maybe that's part of the reason that they don't have m(any) fans??Originally Posted by Yankees13
as an O's fan I am not embarrassed about any of the this from team owned broadcast. Is it hokey? You bet. For that matter - so is john sterling and his almost cartoonish radio broadcast. Another A-bomb from A-Rod! So i think this is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.Originally Posted by Yankees13
And Brian Roberts wasn't saying Gehrig was no longer a living legend. He was merely stating the fact that Gehrig's record has been eclipsed. That is all he is saying - don't take it as anything other than that. And why wouldn't MASN highlight this fact during the tour - should they pretend their hometown hero doesn't hold that record when they showed that plaque? Gehrig was a better player than Cal ever was - but he doesn't hold the record anymore.
And please, please - I am begging you to stop bear baiting Bobby Jr back. the people that railed against him and told him to go away are the same people begging for him to come back. Let it go - please.

Agreed. We can actually discuss O's baseball in this thread now. This team does have a bright future IMO. But Wieters really needs to step up to make the O's plan work.Originally Posted by JimDandy

you are misquoting me - i am begging you guys to stop "baiting" him back. the continual jabs at him are getting old. I swear 50% of the posts on this thread involve some backhanded jab at bobby jr. you guys won - he has not posted even with the turnaround of the O's recently. maybe we could start a thread where everyone can get their bobby jr comments out of their system so it doesn't pollute other threads.Originally Posted by hellonewman
Maybe Trembley wasn't the problem - but Showalter seems to have some sort of solution that Trembley didn't know about.Originally Posted by NelsonMuntz

Getting Brian Roberts back from the DL sure hasn't hurt Showalter.Originally Posted by JimDandy

Considering that you presume to come in here and tell people what to post about after logging about 30 posts in 3 years, "police" probably isn't a label you ought to be throwing around too blithely.Originally Posted by JimDandy

As further proof as how bad the first 2/3 of the season was for the orioles - they currently have the best record in the AL East during august and september and they are still 31.5 games out. If it is any consolation - it appears they may avoid 100 losses. It is embarrassing that I am really relishing the possibility of not losing 100 games. Being an O's fan really distorts your reality.
The reality now seems to be that there may just be a light at the end of the tunnel that's not on a freight train. I guess O's fans can't help but wonder what this season would have been like if Showalter had been there in April. You often hear it said that you can't fire all the players, so you get rid of the manager/head coach instead. Well, given the fact that the roster now is pretty much the same one they had at the beginning at the season, it certainly appears that was the right move to make.Originally Posted by JimDandy

Looks like the Orioles have a good chance to avoid worst record in the AL this season. Seattle has completely rolled over and quit.
