We sorely miss Portis and Springs, too.

14-2 will have to be good enough?
It's a good thing they are on the road against the Texans. The FedEx fans would be giving Brunell the A-Rod treatment until Gibbs pulled him.

We won! We won! We beat the mighty Texans!!

    ok.

Well, I'd say Al Saunders did one helluva job devising a scheme to get the ball out of Brunell's hands ASAP and into the hands of playmakers who could do something with those 5 yard throws.

And damn it's nice to have Portis back. Betts had a helluva game as well though.

We'll really see if we improved any next week against Jacksonville.

Jacksonville is really tough. If the Redskins take them down, I'll be impressed.

Great, just when I thought Brunell might get benched, he goes out and sets an NFL record for consecutive completions! Now we're stuck with him all season! Nice to get a win, regardless of the opponent.

Do you think our anemic offense will be able to beat the Giants this week? Man if our anemic offense beats the Giants they deserve to be in last place in the division.

If they lose to our anemic offense, they should just contract themselves and then commit a mass suicide or something.

    Re: The Redskins Thread

Thoughts on Shawn Springs and LB coach Dale Lindsey basically saying they weren't worried about Lavar giving tips on our defense because "he didn't know it when he was here"?

Personally it's funny as hell (and mostly true) but I'd prefer to not give bulletin board material before big games...

Of course it could also fire the guy (Lavar) up so much to make a huge hit/play that he never gets into the proper position all game long.

    Anemic???

The Redskins have scored 67 points in the last two games and Mark Brunell has posted two consecutive games with a passer rating of over 117.

Hey here locally they just replayed last year's game in the Meadowlands but changed the score around.

    What's up with that?

So was that one Supersuck weekend or what? The Yanks eliminated and the Skins don't even show up to the Meadowlands. Wish we still had the "Bridge Jumping Forum"

Mark Brunell is the NFL's version of Randy Johnson. Aging lefthanders who's best days are clearly behind them. They will both toss in occasional decent games, but at the end of the year, their stats are bad. Let the Jason Campbell era start next week.

The defense stinks something fierce now. Can't tackle, rush the passer, defend the pass, or create turnovers.

Just a disaster. The Redskin boards have lit up today that rival this board after a Yankee playoff elimination. They were booed off the field at FedEx and rightfully so. They will be lucky to go 8-8 or 7-9 at this point.

    Here's something interesting:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...1501130_2.html

"And as Brunell became more erratic, chants of "Jas-on Camp-bell" rose from the stands in a plea for the second-year player who is considered the team's quarterback of the future.

The fans would probably be heartened to know that shouts of "thank you Mark Brunell" could be heard though the cinder block walls of the Titans' locker room before it was opened to the media yesterday."

Don't blame the QB. The Skins allowed the Titans to score 25 points. Tennessee's previous season high was 16 back on week 1.

22 points should have been enough to beat the Titans.

22 points is not enough against one of the worst defenses in the league. Brunell only looks to throw to Santana Moss, and its not working since he is being doubled on every play. You add in his girly-man fear of getting touched, and he is not a good QB.

Absolutely, the defense had a lot to do with this. Gregg William's stock is dropping rapidly. Very frustrating when you knew the Titans would run, run, run, and still couldn't stop it.

With the Skins 2-4 and facing a tougher schedule ahread (starting with Indy this week), their playoff hope are highly unlikely. Time for Campbell to learn that 700-page playbook, that seems to contain nothing but WR screens.

    Re: The Redskins Thread

We only run WR screens because Saunders knows it's the safest way to get the ball into our WRs hands (besides handing it off, see multiple reverses) with Brunell throwing it.

Even the bomb to Lloyd was a friggin hanging prayer.

Our defense was the biggest reason for the Titans debacle, but Brunell ain't helping matters.

I'm ready (been ready since the end of '05) for Campbell. I'm sick of watching rookie QBs perform for other teams while our #1 pick sits on the bench for 2 years.

If they lose to Indy (pfft) then they damn well better start Campbell after the bye week. No excuse not to.

Carlos Rogers in now out for this weekends game at Indy. This game is going to be ugly to watch as a Skins fan. Peyton might throw 6 TDs in the first half.

They do. No shock after the debacle against the Titans last week.

From Gibbs' post game comments it sounds like he is still going to start Brunell after the bye! WTF!

He's going to. While I didn't like it before, I could understand (albeit reluctantly) starting Brunell as the season was not gone yet. Now it is. We are not going to go 8-1 (to get us to 10-6). Time to give Campbell playing time. Enough of this nonsense already!

Must be the master plan where he gets the fans to turn on him and ask him to leave for good this time and never bother him again. I don't know anymore. I'm out of answers.

    Re: The Redskins Thread

It appears that Gibbs and Saunders isn't a good match. Gibbs like to run the ball. Saunders gets pass happy at times. Betts is an excellent back up. Why didn't the Skins run the ball more when they were down only 20-14? That 2nd-8 pass call was stupid. The Skins needed to avoid 3rd and long.

    2-5, RIP.

If I were at FedEx in 2 weeks, I'd have to drop Brunell with a sniper rifle the first time he threw a pass that barely gets back to the LOS on 3rd and 8.

Still ain't gonna be but 2 games out after tonight.

Thats Brunells specialty: the 4 yard pass on 3rd and long. Hes to afraid to hold the ball long enough for the recievers (even though he REFUSES to look at any reciever not named Santana Moss) to get deep into their routes for fear of actually getting touched.

Or any down and distance. So then he completes a high % of those dumpoffs and Gibbs keeps praising the guy like the the Messiah. And let's not forget the scoring drives at the end of blowouts with teams playing the damn prevent. Whopdeedoo. Then we get "that last drive is an example of what Mark is capable of."

I can't believe Joe Gibbs is making me sick. But this crap is ridiculous.

I didn't think I would ever say this, but I wish Gibbs would retire. He refuses to bench Brunell because that would be admitting that he made a mistake. His ego is getting in the way of what is best for this team.

I am left handed, somewhat mobile, and can definitely throw 30 screens a game. And my cap hit would be much lower than Brunell's

My wife's an Auburn fan and she was watching the Giants/Skins game and said the same thing.. If the team doesn't have much of a chance to make the playoffs, why not give the kid a chance? this way, they know what they have and who they need to draft in 07..

I would like to see Campbell start too. I just don't see Gibbs doing that until the 'Skins are mathematically eliminated or they have at least eight losses, which should only take a few more weeks. I was surprised to hear him say that he was considering putting Collins in with nine minutes left in the game, so I could be wrong.

Even if he does make a change QB I don't see this team finishing better than 6-10 with the schedule they have left. They have way more problems than QB.

The defense has no pass rush and the secondary continues to be pathetic. Bringing in Archuleta and dumping Ryan Clark has turned out to be a major mistake.

The offensive line is mediocre at best.

On special teams Frost and Novak are both horrible.

The offensive play calling lacks imagination. I'm just not seeing this offensive genius that has supposedly taken over the offense. This team has too many playmakers to consistently play this poorly.

I wish we would, but I have a feeling Brunell will still get the nod.

By no means am I blaming Brunell for all of this. This suckitude has been a team effort, but with the Skins out of the running, time for Campbell to learn that 700-page playbook that seems to be all throws to Moss right now.

“The question is, do we want to do it? The question is, are we still hungry enough to do it?”

My wife's an Auburn fan and she was watching the Giants/Skins game and said the same thing.. If the team doesn't have much of a chance to make the playoffs, why not give the kid a chance? this way, they know what they have and who they need to draft in 07..
I bet this has been raised more than a few times in the DC media anyway..
No, everyone here pretty much thinks they're still going to the superbowl. You know how it goes. Until the Redskins are mathematically eliminated, they're always going to the superbowl.

FWIW, I said at the beginning of the season that the Redskins should have given Campbell a shot at the starting QB job this year.
    Never left the Betances bandwagon.
