Yankees-Phillies World Series...Then I can Die
My name is Robinbson Cano, and I swing at the first pitch
I heard part of an interview with Fassel this morning on Mike and Mike..I think he deserves another shot as head coach and this was the best job available so I felt bad for him when he didn't get it.
He did confirm that he gave a list of a few OC and DC to Snyder and had met with him several times and discussed his hires. However, he was very classy about it and said Snyder called him before the decision was announced, and he was struggling with it but told him he was not getting the job..Fassell was very classy about it in the interview.
Seems like the Redskins fans here are happy with Zorn as the choice so that's good..I just hope Fassel gets a shot somewhere else soon.![]()
Numerous league sources, including some with direct knowledge of conversations between Snyder, Cerrato and recent head coaching candidates, have affirmed that the Redskins have interest in trading for Cincinnati wide receiver Chad Johnson, with two league sources saying Johnson is eager to land a hefty new contract from Washington.Acquiring an elite receiver is Snyder's top priority, league sources said. The Bengals have said they have no intention of trading Johnson, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is working quietly to broker a deal, the sources said.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...T2008021102877The Redskins also are expected to again pursue Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs, another Rosenhaus client they attempted to trade for last offseason.
Business as usual.

Not that I had any respect for Snyder, but this article makes me lose even more for him and Cerrato.
Wow...what a dick move. I'm glad Fassel didn't sign there now. He deserves better. I don't get how he's still jobless in this league, meanwhile names like Dennis Green and Jim Mora Jr. are brought up every season. Mora already has a job secured for September 2009!Originally Posted by DaYanks24

The Carl Pavano of the NFL has left the building.
Chris Cooley has a blog:
http://chriscooley47.blogspot.com/
An excerpt:
"All right, we're sitting in Minnesota, I'm putting my pants on before the game, and I feel this bump on my leg," the story begins. "It's the all-time biggest ingrown hair you've ever seen. Todd Yoder's sitting right next to me. I'm like, 'Todd, lean over dude, check out this thing I've got on my leg.' He leans over, and right when he leans over I squeeze it real hard and pus flies all over his chin and his face. It was just an ingrown hair, but it was like a boil...The main core of it sprayed past his face. I wish it would have hit him, but it didn't."

Defintitely more than I need to know, but as far as Cooley goes he's the heart and soul of this team.Originally Posted by DaYanks24

So reportedly the Bengals turn down our 1st round pick in this year's draft and our 3rd round pick in next year's draft - that could escalate to next year's 1st round pick based on performance - in exchange for Chad Johnson.
Seemed like a quiet off-season for the Skins (a rarity) but obviously they're trying to make a splash before the draft and will probably wind up making something happen before the weekend is over.
Personally I thank Cincy for rejecting our deal. Nice of the Redskins to crap out any leverage by going right to the 2 first round picks offer when the guy has threatened to sit out if he isn't traded. Duh.
Just build through the draft, you bozos!
"Metallica. Screaming crowd. Jog to the mound. Game over." -C. Jennings

Cincy is dumb for not taking that, and the Redskins are dumb for offering that.
2 possible 1st round picks for a receiver 30 + years old? What are the Redskins thinking. No offense skins fans, but I love having Schneider as your owner.
This is like watching the Yankees front office from the early 2000's, where we sign every big name and give away any young talent.Originally Posted by MassNYYfan

Suppossedly the Dolphins offered Jason Taylor for the 21st pick but the Redskins declined.

Skins still very interested in trading their 21st overall draft pick, and, according to sources, the Redskins made another approach for Johnson in the last day or so, shopping multiple first round picks, and were rebuffed again.Daniel Snyder will never learn. He is a curse on this once-proud organization.Since 2000, when Dan Snyder was fully in control of the team, the Skins have made the fewest draft selections in the NFL, have spent the most money, have the most dead cap space and rank 23rd overall in wins .... Somethings gotta give I suppose.
After all that, they wind up trading OUT of the first round (Atlanta) and now sit with 3 picks in the 2nd round.
34 - Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
48 -
51 -
I'm pleasantly bamboozled thus far.
"Metallica. Screaming crowd. Jog to the mound. Game over." -C. Jennings
I think Devin Thomas is going to be an excellent receiver. Big, strong and fast. Here's hoping he's not the next Taylor Jacobs.
Philip Merling wasn't all that exciting a possible pick. Hard to get to enthusiastic over the next Philip Daniels.
Great pick. Outstanding 1-2 punch at TE for Washington.
Buffalo Bills 2010 "Oh"-Line
Fred Davis, TE, USC with the 48th pick.?
Really need a lineman at 51 now. Wanted a OL and a DL with 48 and 51.
Arrrggggh.
"Metallica. Screaming crowd. Jog to the mound. Game over." -C. Jennings
They are trying to give Zorn some toys to play with.
It does seem like an unnecessary pick, though.
He probably fits in nicely with what Zorn wants to do on offense and obviously he's got great receiving stats. I don't hate the pick by any means, but I definitely had linemen in my sights when we had these 2 picks so close together. WR at 34 was an easy call.
"Metallica. Screaming crowd. Jog to the mound. Game over." -C. Jennings
And with pick #51....
guessing Campbell from Miami....?
Gene tells us:
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
Wow...2 receivers. Basically 3.
No linemen yet.
Edit: oops, changed over to ESPN2 before I saw Arizona picked Campbell, anyway.![]()

Malcolm Kelly?
Another WR?
I guess they plan on throwing the ball 55 times a game.
Campbell had already gone.Originally Posted by MassNYYfan

Who knew that Vinny Cerratto had a Mike Millen-type hard-on for WRs.
I'm not sure I've ever witnessed the Redskins make this many draft picks.
Our Day 2 selections:
#96 - Chad Rinehart, OL, Northern Iowa
#124 - Justin Tryon, CB, Arizona State
#168 - Durant Brooks, P, Georgia Tech
#180 - Kareem Moore, S, Nicholls State
#186 - Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii
#242 - Rob Jackson, DE, Kansas State
#249 - Chris Horton, FS, UCLA

I love the Rinehart pick. He is supposed to have a huge upside, and has experience at guard and tackle. Maybe he's the next Dockery.
Apparently, Tryon is a confident dude in the mold of Fred Smoot. Very cocky. CB was a need with Rogers' injury and Springs being brittle.
Durant Brooks was the best punter in the draft. Couldn't be any worse than Frost and his shanks.
Really wanted them to get a D-lineman much earlier, but it seems that they had a nice draft for once.
Amazing what actually having more than 2 picks will do.
Moore is supposedly a special teams ace as well. Competition for that Prioleau/Fox role.

Chris Cooley's report about a rodeo he attended in WY:
http://chriscooley47.blogspot.com/
"Update: We sat front and center over the shoots Saturday night of the Cody night rodeo. I found myself rooting for the bulls all night. ESPN Xtreme bulls drew a sellout crowd of 5,000 and no bull could have been extreme enough for me. Fact is, put me in any environment with a Cowboy and I’m gonna root against them. I just don’t like Cowboys! "

Helps them short term. But I wonder how long he wants to play for. 2nd rounder isn't all that much especially if they get a good 2 years out of him. A move they needed to make IMO.
For some reason I thought I heard on ESPN tonight or some sports channel that Taylor only wants to play one more year. If that is the case this is a bad deal for the Redskins. If he plays more than one year for the Skins its not bad at all.Originally Posted by 161 and River Ave.

You're right. He could have stood there all night and they would have just gotten louder. I think he said 4 or 5 "thank you's" and they just kept going cheering.
One of greatest things I've ever witnessed in my sports fan life. yankeesAZ, you will have goosebumps, and you will remember it for the rest of your life. It was that incredible.
You'll be amazed at the number of Redskins fans there. I knew the turnout of B&G would be huge, but I didn't expect our fans would have what seemed like 98% of the seats.
A great day, indeed.

Let me preface my appearance in a Redskins thread by stating proudly that I'm a Giants fan first and foremost, LOL.
I only caught 2 segments of the ceremony, one of which was the tailend of Emmitt Thomas' speech, which was great. But I saw Art Monk's enshrinement and I thought it was oustanding. Congrats to Redskin fans on both Monk and Darrell Green.

On another note, Colt Brennan is impressing the hell out of me early.

Big win today!
Not declaring us Superbowl or playoff bound by any means, but I am loving the direction of this team and how much Jason Campbell has improved under Zorn.

I picked Washington to win. This rivalry is fret with great upsets.
It cuts both ways. The 1989 Cowboys were 1-15, guess the team they beat. In 1974 the Cowboys beat the Redskins with Clint Longley in for Staubach.
Dallas was coming off an impressive road win at GB and the Redskins were underdogs heading into Dallas.
