Then there's the mess about some alleged clubhouse fight. Still, he was in the dugout for tonight's 3-1 win over LAD at the Chavez Ravine.

Already picked him up from the FA list in my fantasy league. Bonds better deliver.

I'm not pleased about this at all.

So he's gonna come back at the end of the year, whack enough HRs to pass Ruth like he wanted and then retire, then?

I'm surprised the Giants are still in the NL West race. Now with Barry Bonds back, if they get hot down the stretch and the Padres collapse, they'll win the NL West.

As for Bonds coming back, I wonder how many HRs he'll hit with a banged-up knee and being out for most of the year with no rehab games.

Interesting race for the worst division in baseball. SF is only 5 games back now with 7 left to play with SD. Could be a fun Sept out West in both the AL & NL Races.

giants are like only 5 games out of that division, i think they play the padres like 7 more times too. they could be a legit threat to the sub-pardres

It will be interesting to see how he is received. Giambi got the loudest ovation on opening day and not as much road abuse as predicted by Buster Olney, Kevin Kernan, etc. Most of the time misbehaving players get cheered by the home crowd (see Keith Hernandez after his testimony in the cocaine trial).

Bonds may break Ruth's home run record but he will never take Ruth's or Aaron's place in the heart of baseball fans. Plus both the Babe and Bad Henry have rings.

Bonds has been a much better player than Hank Aaron.
Oh you gonna mess with Farnsworth, he ain't no joke.

Good point, but the interesting thing is Bonds (arguably) is more of a poster-boy for steroids than Giambi is. I mean, Bonds was the best athlete on earth.

I waw so hoping that he wouldn't be back this year. What a horrible division when you consider that the Giants think they still have a chance.

What are they 10 games under .500 and realistically could still make the post season?

Talk about night and day with the NL East and NL West.

His goal in coming back is to pass Babe Ruth and then retire. I don't think he is interested in Aaron's record.

Re: ESPN: Bonds could be reactivated as early as Tue (9/6)

It could actually be Thu 9/8, since that's their next game at SBC Park. The ESPN reporters mentioned that he'd be received much better there (I figure fewer "Got Juice?" signs).

On the LAD/SFG game, Joe Morgan's TV partner said that Felipe Alou could potentially put Barry in simply to PH, knowing he'll draw a walk. It's uncertain how the opposing pitchers will treat him, since they could just as easily groove one down Broadway (a meatball, to those not into lingo) to see if he can hit it or not.

He'll likely serve primarily as a pinch hitter, since Moises Alou supposedly has LF locked up.

Oh, despite being on the DL, ESPN is saying he had a clubhouse fight w/some unnamed teammate that was confirmed by 4 sources. Man gets around.

I wouldn't wish harm on anyone for something like a sport. But I really wouldn't shed any tears if one of Barry's tendons permanently detached itself. You know, from the usual wear and tear of a long career. Mmm hmm.

Re: ESPN: Bonds could be reactivated as early as Tue (9/6)

Bonds will not be activated Tuesday
While Barry Bonds return might happen any day now, it won't be Tuesday.

Bonds, whose workout with the San Francisco Giants on Monday in Los Angeles included taking batting practice and testing his throwing arm, was re-evaluated Tuesday morning, ESPN's Pedro Gomez reports. But Giants general manager Brian Sabean told ESPN's Karl Ravech that Bonds will not be activated for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Sabean told Ravech that Bonds will not suit up because Bonds has yet to be medically cleared to run the bases.

"It's up to them," Bonds told the San Jose Mercury News of when he'd return to the lineup.
