From what I have seen from him, Florian does not really impress me at all. Granted, it was only a few fights.

Kenny Florian has very sharp elbows in standup. If he connects those standing up, it will give you massive cuts.Originally Posted by SubwayFanatic

round 3:
brad chases seth around the ring for a few seconds and gets the takedown.. advantage imes.. seth does his best to try and lockup brad, but brad is able to land some decent strikes from the guard..
seth did nothing but avoid getting hit by trying to tangle up brad, try to escape the guard and attempt a few feeble strikes from his back..
although imes didn't beat the bejeezus out of seth from the guard, he clearly won the round..
10-9 brad.. 29-28, brad..

Those ear shots hurt a lot. They are gonna be hurting Seth for a couple weeks, loss of sleep etc. His ear looked aweful, one of the worst I've ever seen. Nice third round for Brad though, he looked good.

peoples: 29-28, imes
Clearly should have been 29-28 on every card for Imes. He lost the first, but won the second and third, no question. I want some of what that second judge was smoking.

The Ultimate Fighter 2 - Week 12 Recap via SpikeTV.com
Semi-finals #3 & 4: Countdown
At the UFC Training Center a doctor examines the long cut in the middle of Jason's forehead to see if it has healed enough for him to fight. Marcus gets the news he's been waiting for from Dana. He is told that Jason has been cleared to fight so he won't get the rematch against Joe he was hoping for.
Jason and Joe weigh in for the second welterweight semi-final of the competition. Matt Hughes sees this as an easy fight for Joe unless he tries to stand-up with Jason. Dana thinks Jason's unpredictable fight style makes him a good match for Joe. Jason expects Joe to take him down because he's a monster on the ground. But Joe has a surprise in store for him; he wants to stay on his feet. Even though Joe is known for his formidable ground game he believes he's got heavy hands and a strong chin. He wants to knock out Jason so he can pocket that $5000 bonus and advance to the finals.
In round one Jason and Joe come out and trade punches. Joe slams the "bulls-eye" on Jason's forehead with a left but doesn't manage to open the cut. Three minutes into the first round Joe is the one bleeding and Jason is pushing the pace. Joe's stand-up strategy is clearly not working for him so he goes for the takedown. Jason tries to sprawl but gets caught up against the fence and Joe throws him onto his back. He works to get Jason into a rear naked choke but Jason rolls out it. Before Jason can get back on his feet Joe jumps on him and starts dropping elbows to his face. As Jason tries to roll into a defensive position he gets caught in an arm bar and taps out with just nine seconds left. With another decisive first round victory Joe has bolstered his reputation as a fighter to be feared in the ring and secured his spot in the finals. He will face off against Luke Cummo in the live finale for a six-figure contract with the UFC.
Heavyweights Brad Imes and Seth Petruzelli weigh-in for the last semi-final of the competition. Handicapping the fight, Dana points out that Seth wanted to fight Brad because he likes fighting bigger guys and knows Brad has less experience than the other fighters. It's always tough fighting a giant like Brad but Dana thinks Seth's unorthodox standup gives him an edge in this fight.
Seth displayed some spectacular kicks in his fight with Big Dan and he plans to slam Brad with some new jumping-spin kicks he's been working on. Brad knows he's regarded as the underdog in this fight but everything he's worked for in the last year is on the line. He won't let Seth stop him from making it to the finals.
In the first round Seth delivers on his promise to kick the hell out of Brad. He strikes him with hard kicks to the leg until Brad pushes him against the cage. Brad tries to take the fight to the ground but Seth defends the takedown. Seth's kicks to Brad's legs are doing some damage and Brad is starting to look uncomfortable on his feet. He hits Seth with a few good punches but it appears Brad may have lost the first round. In the corner Matt tells Brad he has to respond with a punch to every one of Seth's kicks.
In round two, Brad comes out swinging but Seth manages to take him to the ground. Brad looks comfortable fighting flat on his back, nailing Seth with punches and elbows until Rich tells him to let Brad back up. Seth doesn't seem to be listening to his corner and takes the fight back to the ground where Brad just beats him up again from the bottom. The round ends with Rich telling Seth he can't sit in the guard on the ground with Brad again.
In the third round Brad takes Seth down and pummels him on the ground. He zeroes in on Seth's ears and his strikes are clearly causing pain. Seth tries to re-position himself away from the cage but Brad drags him back and throws heavy punches to the ribs. After the buzzer sounds the judges' scores are tallied and Dana examines the results. He is shocked to find that it's a split decision.
Dana enters the ring and announces the results of the split decision: Brad Imes is the winner and will be fighting Rashad Evans in the finals. Seth, whose ear as swollen to three times it's normal size, is clearly devastated by the loss. But he gives Brad credit for fighting a great fight and wishes him luck in the finals.
Dana says Brad was the "dark horse" in this competition. He was the least experienced fighter and ended up being the last heavyweight picked. With the expert coaching of both Matt and Rich he learned fast and improved very quickly. Rashad, on the other hand, was someone Dana had doubts about because he felt he didn't show enough heart and only did just enough to get by. But Rashad's performance in defeating Keith Jardine showed that he definitely left it in the octagon and justifiably belongs in the finals.
On November 5th the finalists will fight in a live UFC broadcast event. In the welterweight fight it's Luke Cummo vs. Joe Stevenson. In the heavyweight bout it's Brad Imes vs. Rashad Evans. The winners in each weight class will be awarded the prize they came all this way for: a six-figure contract with the UFC.

The Ultimate Fighter 2 - Week 12 Broadway's PostMortem
Joe Stevenson is an animal. If he gets you into the ground, you really have your hands full. He tried to beat Jason von Flue standing up, but was bleeding. So, he took Jason down and ground-n-pound him to soften him up and then locked the armbar.
Joe vs. Luke Cummo will be a great fight. Luke's chance is to effectively beat Joe standing up. If Joe takes Luke to the ground and dominates, Joe wins.
In the Brad Imes-Seth Petruzelli fight, Seth won Round 1, but since then, Seth was gassed. My question is why in the world is Seth continually going for the TD's? He seemed superior in the standup, and Brad's doing most of the work/damage from his guard. Stupid on Seth's part IMO.
wow, what another terrible borring let-down of a HW fight. Seth is just hanging out, sleeping on Brads tummy... and Brad who is obviously not a fighter, is looking like the better man... never thought i'd say this, but....Rashad is gunna beat Brad in the finals....
I was thinkin' to myself: If Seth wins this fight soley on TD's I'll be pissed right off. When you use takedowns, follow it up and advance your position. That's what happened to Josh Koscheck against Diego Sanchez, he took Diego down, but never advanced his position.
When Dana White said these two words: Split Decision, I fell on to the bed and mumbled, "You have got to be kidding me."
brad's so tall seth couldn't even reach his face from where he was
Seth deserved the loss for fighting stupid. Rich screamed 50,000 times for him to let Brad up and to keep it standing, where he was winning. Yet he outright refused to listen and kept trying to layNpray his way to a victory. Maybe he was gassed, I don't know. But he still should have kept it standing. I'm glad he lost.
I saw one fight on Friday night fights (or TNF, I don't recall) where the dudes ear was literally seperated from his head. It was flopping around like that for a while, not connected at the top, and everytime he'd get popped it would spray blood. Grim tidings.
Seth's was pretty well ................ed though. That was a nasty scene if you watched Seth's ear after the fight. That was brutally gruesome.
Brad Imes has his hands full with Rashad Evans in the HW fight. Rashad has to win standing up. If he goes to the ground, Rashad needs to drop massive elbows.
Anyways, my predictions for these two championship fights in the finale:
Welterweights: Joe Stevenson over Luke Cummo
Heavyweights: Rashad Evans over Brad Imes

Seth had this fight won if he just continued to stand and kick the crap out of Brad. That should have been his strategy and really started out that way; but when he went to the ground and Rich was yelling at him I knew he was going to lose. Why the heck did he continue to try and keep it on the ground? His strength is clearly his kicks; which was and could have continued to neutralize Brad but just a bad decision by Seth. I had the same reaction as Rich; and just shook my head.Originally Posted by BroadwayBomber55

The Rashad/Brad fight does not seem to me like it's going to be a to borrow a term from Jim Ross a "slobberknocker." I don't know; I just don't like the matchup. I think Seth vs. Rashad would have been a more exciting final. I think the size of Brad might force Rashad into more of a hit and run strategy. He is not going to want to stand with Brad as he is a beast. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Here are my predictions:
Joe Stevenson over Luke Cummo ... I will cheer for Luke to win as the underdog here; but these guys were two of my favorite WWs this season so I would not mind either winning the match. I think Joe is the overall better fighter and if it goes to the ground it's probably in his favor. Standing you have to give the advantage to Luke.
Rashad Evans over Brad Imes ... This is really a toss up. I think either could win. I'm just going to give it to Rashad based on he has won three fights going in; I think he has a bit more of the momentum. I think he can frustrate Brad with speed & movement. I guess I'll pick Rashad here.

Any predictions on the Diego/Diaz fight?
Have they announced any other matches for the card with the other TUF2 fighters?
I just checked it out at UFC.tv. Diego Sanchez is at welterweight.Originally Posted by meng_mao

This Diego vs. Nick Diaz fight is going to be very interesting. I can't wait to see it.
This is a tough fight to call. Diego is stronger, but Diaz seems to have better standup and cardio. Can Diego keep Diaz on the ground and ground and pound him? I really think that is his best chance at winning. Diaz can defend against submissions, and I really don't think Diego wants to stand with him.
I think Diaz is going to KO Diego, but I would not be shocked if Diego won via ground and pound.
Here are TUF 2 Finale Results via Sherdog.com and MMAWeekly (updated):
1 Keith Jardine d. Kerry Schall via TKO (Leg Kicks) 3:28 into Round 2

Each round was competitive, but it's not "BS" to conclude that Diego won each round...the rounds were close, but then again, Diego was active in all three and was pushing the fight. The decision seemed entirely fair.
Bottom line: great, great fight. Both guys are terrific.

It was still a pretty damn good fight, but I think there was a bit too much "lay and pray" for me.
By the way, Brad could end up being a pretty good fighter.
For a guy who has been training - what, about a year or so? - he definitely showed a ton of heart and guts. Rashad absolutely rocked him a few times and he was able to recover.
His technique is a bit sloppy though. But he has size and heart, and with proper training, he could potentially be a force to be reckoned with.
Here's the The Ultimate Fighter 2 Finale Play By Play via. Kakutougi.info:
Fight 1: Kenny Florian vs. Kit Cope
Round 1
Kenny goes for takedown early, but it doesnt happen. Kenny gets tagged with a nice left uppercut, trying to take it down, The two are clinched on fence now. Cope showing good TD defense.
Fighters still clinched leaning on fence.
Kit and Florian continue to clinch with No one getting anyone to the ground. Kit just popped Ken with about 2 elbows in the clinch. They are now on the fence with Ken pressing against Cope trying to take him down.... finally got him down
Kenny takes him down!Cope gets kenny in guard. Cope using elbows effectively.
Cope gets up, then back down into Copes guard again. Kenny gets side control.
55 secs left, kenny gets mount, some gnp as cope holds onkenny gets armbar as bell rings. Cope taps at the horn. Kenny stands up and hold his arms up, I'm not sure if Cope tapped out or not.
Round 1 is over. Cope tapped out at the horn, but fight continues.
Round 2: Florian and Cope fight again, but Cope is fighting with a broken arm from that armbar.
Kenny gets TD right away, Gets RNC, Cope taps out.
Kenny Florian wins via submission: rear naked choke.
I cant believe Cope came out for the second round. You can tell there is heavy muscle strain or a partial broken arm. Good fight.

WOW! I was really chantin' "holy sh*t" and "this is awesome" all night.
This is the best overall UFC event ever since UFC moved to Spike TV.
Kenny Florian is trying to improve his MMA skills with a armbar victory over Kit Cope. He has one of the nastiest elbows in MMA along with Evan Tanner and David Loiseau. Cope had the guts to continue with a broken arm, but you can see it wasn't easy fighting with one healthy arm.
Luke Cummo vs. Joe Stevenson was a great fight all around. Not only Luke survived on the ground, he thrived. It was Stephan Bonnar v. Forrest Griffin on the ground. Both Joe and Luke will thrive in the UFC. Luke will be added to the UFC welterweight roster.
Brad Imes vs. Rashad Evans was another good fight. I agree Subway, Brad showed a lot of heart and guts and with more training, he will be a solid fighter. Rashad did well as a Heavyweight, but IMHO, he can be more explosive if he drops down to 205 in the Light Heavyweight Division.
Diego Sanchez vs. Nick Diaz was clearly dominated by the Nightmare. Diego was more active and had more control than Nick. Pretty unclassy act on Diaz's part as far as his post match thoughts on Diego. Felt bad for Diego when they cut him off as he was about to promote what sounded like a missing child thing, but rules are rules.
In all, a very good event for the UFC on Spike TV.

The one thing I don't understand is why some people hate all of these fighters from The Ultimate Fighter.
What these people fail to realize is that these guys were legit fighters beforehand. It's not like they just picked a bunch of random scrubs off the streets and gave them a chance to win a contract for the UFC.
Look up the records and check out some of the fighters the guys from the TUF have fought prior to being on the show. Pretty impressive.
I don't like Diego, for instance, because I think he comes off as very arrogant. But the guy can fight. You have to give him credit for that.

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/...1103&zoneid=13
The first prelim is complete between Nick Thompson and Keith Wisniewski - Official decision: Nick Thompson won by unanimous decision with a 30-27 on all three judges scorecards. After a back and forth first round Thompson showed a little more speed than Wisniewski early. Kieth in the second round took down Thompson, but Thompson reversed went for the armbar, didn't quite land it, but landed some great elbows. Third round some great takedowns as both guys worked hard. Thompson finished the third round strong. MMAWeekly scored it 29-28 for Thompson, judges saw it 30-27.
The second prelim is in the books as Thiago Alves wins by TKO. Alves was in trouble getting caught in a heel hook but reversed and then landed hammer fist after hammer fist to get the TKO win. Alves by TKO at 2:25 of Round 1.
In the third preliminary fight Sam Hoger wins by rear naked choke at 2:59 over Jeff Newton.
In the first fight of the pay-per-view, Jeremy Horn and Trevor Prangley stood for the first half of round 1, content to trade blows. The second half of the round, Horn came close to several submissions, but Prangley defended well to finish out the round.
The second round of Horn-Prangley saw some more great stand-up exchanges to start off the round, but most of the round was spent with Prangley trying to pound Horn while in Horn's guard and ended with another brief exchange to conclude the round.
The third round saw Prangley taking Horn down once again and most of the round was spent with Prangley working a ground and pound attack while Horn worked hard off of his back. In the end, the judges scored the bout unanimously 29-28 for Jeremy Horn.
In between fights, the UFC announced that Frank Mir will fight Andre Arlovski in 2006, Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock will return as coaches for TUF 3 (as reported by MMAWeekly.com), and the re-signing of BJ Penn.
Georges St. Pierre dropped Sean Sherk early in the first round, but Sherk recovered quickly. Most of the round with spent with the two fighters trading strikes, but with 1:30 left, St. Pierre stunned Sherk with a huge double-leg takedown and finished out the round grounding and pounding Sherk.
St. Pierre worked a very effective jab throughout the first couple minutes of round two before sticking a spinning back kick and then taking Sherk to the mat again. Once the fight hit the ground, St. Pierre opened up a ground and pound clinic on Sherk causing referee Herb Dean to stop the fight at 2:53 of the second round.
Following the weigh-in controversy involving Joe Riggs, where he failed to make weight, we're getting ready for the NON-TITLE fight between him and welterweight champion Matt Hughes.
Hughes and Riggs stood and traded blows for the first minute and a half of round one before Hughes took Riggs down. Working out of Riggs' half-guard, Hughes surprisingly gave up the ground and pound and snagged Riggs' arm. Despite Riggs' valiant efforts to defend, Hughes finished the fight at 3:28 of round one, surprisingly, with a Kimura shoulder lock.
In the evening's swing bout, Gabriel Gonzaga dominated Kevin Jordan through the first round, maintaining position and attempting various submissions. He even attained mount towards the end of the round, but couldn't finish.
The second round was sort of a feeling out round, where Jordan and Gonzaga danced around through the entire round, hardly throwing any blows. A tough round for the judges to score.
After two of the most boring rounds in UFC history, even the announcers were having trouble trying to build this one up, Gonzaga made it one of the more exciting finishes of the night so far. At 4:39 of the third round, Gonzaga landed a crushing right hand/forearm blow that turned Jordan's nose into a faucet and brought the fight to an end.
Coming up... the middleweight championship between Rich Franklin and Nate Quarry.
Wow! In the main event, Rich Franklin left no doubt that he is the champion. He appeared to have knocked Nate Quarry out about two minutes into the first round, but referee John McCarthy did not see fit to stop the action and let the fight go. Then, just moments later, Franklin again caught Quarry with a devastating left hand that caused Quarry to go limp and fall to his back on the canvas with no doubts that he was out. Franklin got the win at 2:34 of the first round.
Getting a good look at Quarry's nose after the fight, it was obvious that his nose was broken, as it was out of orientation with the rest of his face.
Rich Franklin was gracious in victory, just hoping that he pleased the fans. Quarry was just as gracious, if not more, in defeat, giving all of the credit in the world to Franklin and stating that he's not done.

Bring in Rickson Gracie. I miss the Gracies. They were great. Not huge and muscular, just like an every day guy getting down and winning. I loved them.
