Royals load bases with no outs in the 8th (leading 4-3) - and fail to score.

There's a reason why these jokers have been swept 20 times this year.

KC (and us) actually catch a break when that pitch was clearly headed for the backstop (with man on 3rd) hits the batter instead.

    Bottom 9th. 4-4.

    Okay, explain this to me.

The White Sox has a 2.5 game lead in the division and their Magic number is 5.

The Angels have a 4 game lead in their division and their Magic number is also 5.

    from http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/standings/index.jsp

problem is you can't be sure what kind of a fight the chisox will put up next weekend if they've clinched and need to get their pitching staff straight and rest evryday players etc. i expect at least the first game to mean something - but they are up 3 on cle.

ChiSox lead by 3 in the loss column, so 5 is it.

Angels are up 3.5, but only 3 in the loss column so 5 is correct there as well.

I would bet money on Tampa winning on Tuesday.

Kazmir is pitching and he can neutralize the bats of Sizemore and Hafner, and then switch Martinez to the right side of the plate.

If the Yanks were to win their two, that would put them a full game up on Cleveland with 5 games left.

The White Sox winning 3 straight has almost elminated any chance of them blowing their lead in the division. They have their 4 best pitchers starting for them this week in Detroit and they will probably have a magic number of 1 going into Friday's game at CLE.

    Would've been a good bet.

In other news, Oakland's on the brink of elimination against Anaheim, trailing 4-2 into the 7th. Always entertaining to see a manager put all hands on deck - Duchscherer bailed Kennedy out, and it can't be long before Street comes in to keep this game close.

    K-Rod on in the ninth.

Scutaro leads it off with a homer.

4 -3 Angels with nobody out, nobody on.

    Congratulations to the LA Angels.

2004 and now 2005 AL West Champions.

They are once again a dangerous team for any opponent. Shields, Donnelly and Rodriguez have been used alot, but now, they get to have a week off before Tuesday's game 1.

They still have a chance to host the ALDS as they are 1 game less then BOS and NYY.

Hopefully, my team gets the chance to get revenge for 2002 starting next Tuesday.

    Their rotation is scary too.

If the Wild-Card comes from the East, they'll actually get the easier draw with Chicago in my opinion.

The rotation doesnt look scary, but they the "right pitchers"

Colon-Lackey in Games 1 and 2. Doesnt matter what order it is. Byrd is crafty and has had a very good ERA this season. And then Sciosia will have his choice to start either Santana (who won tonight) or Washburn.

If there facing Boston, they wont pitch Washburn again. I'm sure they dont mind starting anyone of their guys against the White Sox. And then of course, Washburn has been murder on the Yankees in the last 3 years.

They can use Santana in middle relief in the 5th and 6th if needed. Then of course, the big 3 for the finish.

The Angels have a lights out back end of the bullpen led by Scot Shields, Brendan Donnelly, and K-Rod, Francisco Rodriguez, but with K-Rod, you may never know. K-Rod can be dominant or throwing a hissyfit. They also don't have a situational lefty in their bullpen unless Jarrod Washburn can be that guy, but we all know what happened with Washburn giving up a longball to David Ortiz in Game 3 last year.

The "lefty out the pen" stuff is overrated. Look at the Yankees. If the Yanks had enough good relievers, there wouldnt be talk of needing a lefty. It cost the Angels last year when the thought Washburn had a better chance of getting out Ortiz than Troy Percival.

Is Alan Embree a better option than Tanyon Sturtze? I would go to Sturtze against the lefty over Embree.

Remember the Gabe White/Felix Heredia stuff. Game 6 of the 03 ALCS. Bases loaded, Heredia facing Damon lefty-lefty and he walks him on 4 pitches. Gabe White comes in to face Nixon lefty-lefty, and he gives up a 3 run homer.

True. True. I need pitchers who stay poised, have no fear, stays positive, throws quality strikes, be economical with their pitches, and gets hitters out from both sides no matter which side, lefty or right.

DRays lead 1-0 and are three outs away from taking another one from the Indians. The White Sox lead the Tigers 5-2 in the bottom of the 8th and could have a magic number of 2 after tonight.

DRays win 1-0. White Sox are up 5-2 in the 9th. If that score holds their magic number will be 2.

Sox clinch a playoff spot after Red Sox loss tonight.
Only two teams in baseball history have won wire to wire, had the most victories in their league and also swept the World Series: the 1927 Yankees and the 2005 White Sox.

White Sox magic number for a playoff spot is now 1, due to the Yanks/BSox head-to-head series.
