    Manny's OPS vs LHP:

    2003: 1.105
    2004:1.077
    2005: .693

    Millar's OPS vs LHP:

    2003:..817
    2004: .820
    2005: .603

When these guys, especially Manny, turn it around against LHP, lefties will not dominate the Sox anymore.

That and Damon and Ortiz don't hit as well against lefties as they do against righties. And Trot Nixon has been playing against lefties lately which is a joke.

Millar isn't turning around anything anytime soon.

    Based on what?

    2004 Pre ASB: .762 OPS 5 HR.
    2004 Post ASB: .974 OPS, 13 HR.

    2003 Pre ASB: .872
    2003 Post ASB: .752

    2002 Pre ASB: .779
    2002 Post ASB: .951

In two of the last three years, he has been much, much better in the 2nd half. Since the ASB this year (I know, extremely small sample size), he is 6 for 13 (.462), and he has 3 XBH in just 13 ABs, compared to 18 XBH in 258 ABs before the break. I see no reason to believe he won't have a great 2nd half.

For a lot less power though. Look at the homerun splits. or the slugging percentage.

His average maybe slightly higher vs LHP, but his OBP and SLG are both lower. He has hit LHP well this year, but not as well as RHP.

Well, I don't see any reason that he WILL have a great 2nd half. Unless you can give a reason why he was hot in 2 2nd halves over the last 3 years, simple patterns like that aren't proof of anything, other than inconsistency. Millar has sucked this year, no way around that...and the only reason he might turn it around is the fact that he is inconsistent? Yeah, he might turn it around, but other than a good couple of games, he hasn't shown any signs of it.

Manny on the other hand, I fully expect to turn it around. He is still hitting righties just fine, it doesn't appear that his abilities have declined. Perhaps he is trying to pull everything against lefties.

It is tough to prove statistically why Millar plays better in the second half, but it is something he has done throughout his career. I can't find the splits pre-2002, but I would be willing to bet they show Millar is consistently a better 2nd half player. I expect him to put up a 2nd half OPS of .850-.900, which will be much better than his first half OPS of .710.

Millar's career 1st half ops is .823, and his career 2nd half ops is .876. So yeah, he does improve, but not by a whole lot. And he has been far worse so far this year than his career 1st half average. It's not unreasonable to think that he will have a better 2nd half, but any ops over .800 would be a pleasant surprise.

I don't think it's as much the fact that they were facing lefties as much as it has been the caliber of lefties they've had to deal with. That list you posted is not exactly a bunch of lightweights. Ted Lilly has dominated them everytime he's faced them for the past two years. When Kazmir is not having control problems he is dangerous. I watched some of that game on Monday. The way he was mixing that breaking ball with his fastball was keeping them way off balance. He made Ortiz and Manny look bad a few times. Remy made the comment that if Manny would stop trying to pull everything from lefties he'd be much better off. I have no idea why they would have Nixon in there vs him.

Re: Interesting Numbers, AL East LHP vs BOSTON

Lefties have definately been staying away from Manny this year. Except of course Casey Fossum. =)

I mentioned this to a buddy of mine and we didn't look at any numbers, but this is a good start for me to rub it in! The only other guy that's dominated the Sox like those on that list that isn't a lefty is Rodrigo Lopez.

I was actually thinking that when he had a sh*tty April and May, but since then he has been on fire, except when facing LHP.

He did homer off of Fossum last night, so that is a good sign.
