Dontrelle Willis. He has the best record & 2nd best ERA, IIRC, out of the NL starters.

    If not him, Petey.

Willis but that's a really tough call.

Clemens has better numbers (I voted for him) but I think they'll give it to Willis.

I'm going to go with Roger. I want him to make up for that disasterous start from last year.

Yeah Dontrelle has more wins, but Roger would have more if his team could score runs.

    Roger Clemens should.

How great would it be if he bombed worse than last year?

Re: Who Should Be The NL All-Star Starter?

Roger Clemens by a fairly wide margin, in my opinion. Willis is having a great year, but Clemens' year has been absolutely tremendous, and in a park that's much tougher on pitchers than Willis's is. I think that Pedro Martinez deserves a look, too, or at least a glance. Sure, his ERA is higher than the others, at 2.74, but look at his WHIP. It's at 0.82. That's amazing. If he kept that up, he'd have one of the top 10 WHIP seasons of all time. All things considered, though, I'd go with The Rocket.

definetly Clemens...his numbers are just ridiculous...and if he was on a team that had any offense, he would have the same amount (if not more) wins then Willis

Re: Who Should Be The NL All-Star Starter?

Both Clemens and Willis have incredible numbers this year. Roger has a slightly lower ERA and more strikeouts, while Willis has more wins and complete games. If they switched teams I think Clemens would be having an even better year since 1) Houston's offense has hung him out to dry on several occasions and 2) he pitches in a hitter friendly ballpark. It's a close call. I'd give the ball to Clemens, but would have no problem with Willis getting the nod.

I voted for Willis. They both deserve to start because of their great numbers, but it would be nice to have the younger guys getting the nod for the All-Star games.

I liked what Clemens did for the NL last year.

Gets the nod, in my book.

Yes, Willis, new blood and all that. Also, I think the complete game thing is a stat that should not be overlooked. I always admire pitchers who can finish a game themselves.

Plus, Clemens crapped the bed in the all star game last year.

That's actually why I went with Clemens, he's been more consistent. To balance that 5 CG and 4 SO Willis has had 5 games where he's given up 3 or more ER (3 three times, 4 once and 5 once). Clemens has only done it twice (three once and 4 once).

I also have no problem with either of them starting.

If it were my choice I would give the honor to Clemens... since once again it could be his final season. It's hard to not give the All-Star Game start to the greatest pitcher of the modern era... and who just happens to be having another Cy Young calliber season.

Willis. He's having an incredible season and he's my type of pitcher. Goes deep into ballgames and finishes what he starts pretty often. I wish more guys were like him.

Re: Who Should Be The NL All-Star Starter?

My opinion is that John Smoltz deserves the NL Start the most, given the fact that he's overcome injuries to go from an All-Star Starter to All-Star Closer and back to All-Star Starter. Plus, Smoltz trusts his stuff more as well as any starter. Clemens blew it last All-Star game and should come on in the 3rd or 4th in relief. Willis is too inexperienced for my liking. I'd have him coming in to face a tough lefty, i.e Ortiz.

Re: Who Should Be The NL All-Star Starter?

The right thing to do would be for the Marlins to trade Willis to the Yankees (for womack) and have him start for the AL team. I dont see any other solution.

Re: Who Should Be The NL All-Star Starter?

Clemens, Clemens, Clemens.... his dominance is unmatched. He is pitching his best season ever and if not for his crappy team, he could possibly have a perfect record and a win in every decision. The most amount of runs he has allowed in any one start is 4 and that has only happened once. At home in a hitters park he has allowed just 17 earned runs and 50 hits in 69 innings (ERA @ home 2.22). Even more impressive is in 46 innings on the road this season he has allowed 1 earned run and 24 hits. 1 EARNED RUN!!!! (ERA away 0.20).

And if thats not enough, he's hitting .281. LOL

The only reason Clemens should not be starting the all-star game is if New York deals for him and he is no longer in the National League.

At least for my generation, Clemens is definitely the best pitcher who's ever taken the mound and for all generations he is arguably the best pitcher in the history of the game. We should all be excited to be able to watch him be the NL starter.

Re: Who Should Be The NL All-Star Starter?

It shouldn't happen based on his numbers, but I'd LOVE to see Petey Martinez face Manny, Papi, Damon, and V-Tek. Willis and Clemens have both been much better than him this year, but if I wanted the NL to win, I'd start Pedro. It's obviously a biased opinion, but just from seeing him mow down the best lineups the AL had to offer year in and year out, I just have that kind of confidence in him.

It's an exhibition. It's a joy for the fans. How can you not pick a soon to be Hall of Famer who should win the NL Cy Young Award this year?.

    ROCKET
    ROGER
    CLEMENS

Can you truly pick anyone else? I doubt it.

Tough choice, no doubt, but I give the nod to Willis.

Clemens' season so far not to be ignored, but it's time to 'pass the torch'. Give the 'kid' the recognition he deserves.

I'll go for Willis. We've seen enough of Clemens. I'll even take Pedro as the starter over Clemens.

All I have to say is that BOTH there ERA"s are INSANE!!! I give it to Willis because rocket had it last year and he got smacked around

I completely agree. Willis gets my vote, although Clemens has some sick numbers.
