I think the fact that it was alot more realistic than the other superhero movies out there makes this one so good. Plus they actually potrayed Batman as the dark knight and not a fruitcake.Originally Posted by True Yankee-ette13

I have yet to see this movie, but are they really making a 2nd one with the Joker in it? Nicholson in the original Batman was perfect as the Joker.Originally Posted by Sam18

Great movie but I thought the weapon system didn't make any sense. The thing should have vaporized everyone considering we're 70% composed of water.
They somehow pulled it off making you believe that a guy would dress as a giant bat and fight crime and believe it could actually happen.Originally Posted by True Yankee-ette13

If you watched the cartoons then you'd see that Nicholson's Joker was nothing like the real Joker.Originally Posted by S2

Wow! I just saw this for the first time, and it was fantastic! It is great to see these superhero movies being done the right way....like Spiderman was done.
I found no flaws with this movie, and it made some of the other Batman movies look really bad.
The latest rumor for the sequel is Johnny Depp as the Joker...that could be quite excellent.
Yeah, in the comics the Joker is more of a psychopath rather than the funny, obnoxious gangster that Nicholson portrayed. They should score Mark Hamill (the voice of Joker from the cartoon) to play Joker, he sounds psycho.Originally Posted by Sam18

Am I totally crazy in thinking Benicio del Toro would be a good Joker?

Mark Hamil is my first choice for the next Joker BUT there is another perfect guy for the role: Hugo Weaving(Agent Smith). He'd be perfect cuz imo he can pull off the funny and crazy personality of the Joker at the same time. Plus he's got the Joker laugh(remember in Revolutions in the scene with the Oracle). So it better be Mark Hamil or Hugo Weaving. Anyone else they get will end up being like the Jack Nicholson Joker which I hated.

Mark Hamill? You guys are insane. I know all of this stems from his voicework in the cartoon series, but voicework and acting on screen are two very different things. Hamill would be a disaster because first and foremost he's an awful actor.
Not to mention I doubt that Chris Nolan's version of the Joker is going to resemble the comics version too closely. From what I've read they're even changing the Penguin - he's going to be a Russian arms dealer. At least thats' what is floating around out there right now.
As far as psychopaths go, Johnny Depp is still my first choice. I'd also like to see Ed Harris and/or Anthony Hopkins (Hanibal Lecter anyone?) as villains.

I don't think he's that bad of an actor not to mention that his experience with the character would make him a good choice, I think.Originally Posted by BronxByTheBay

My first pick would be Kevin Spacey. He plays a villain better then anyone out there IMO. But he's doing Superman, so he's out.Originally Posted by Evil Empire

He didn't even cross my mind, but he wouldn't be too bad I guess. He seems too calm to play a maniacal clown.Originally Posted by Hitman23

That would be really cool if they did a crossover.Originally Posted by Evil Empire
Based on the Jokers looks, Depp would be a good pick. But he's a little too, I dunno, feminine to be playing it though.

The Joker is very feminine.Originally Posted by Hitman23
As for the crossover, forget it - ain't happening. They were all set to do it a few years ago with Wolfgang Peterson directing, but decided to relaunch the Superman and Batman franchises individually, thus we got Batman Begins and Superman Returns.
They made Freddy vs Jason. You know as well as I do, the market will be there, it's just a matter of time before they find a way to cash in.Originally Posted by BronxByTheBay

It's not about there being a dearth of a market, it's just why combine it when you can have two different streams coming in. The whole reason WB decided against it was because they were convinced they could successfully relaunch both franchises on their own. Considering the super hero boom of the last 6 years, it was a good bet.Originally Posted by Hitman23
Freddy Vs. Jason came about because New Line knew both franchises were dead and wanted to do something to reinvigorate them. Same happened with Alien vs. Predator.
It may happen in 10-15 years after the current franchises have burnt themselves out again.
I thinnk Willem Dafoe would make an awsome villain

Anyone else think Crispin Glover would be a helluva Joker? He's got the right sort of look, and he's utterly insane. I think he'd be great.Originally Posted by Sam18
Based on their casting choices for "Batman Begins", I have a feeling the producers might shy away from casting someone like Johnny Depp as the Joker. The biggest problem with the old Burton/Schumacher movies was that the villians always overshadowed Batman.

The last two movies, the protagonists were more interesting and the movies sucked.
In order for super-hero movies to work, the villians have to be the more interesting characters.

The villains: (Front-runners as of this month):[U]
Joker: Adrien Brody (only one to say he'd do the role)
Two-Face: Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama) & Liev Schrieber
Penguin: Phillip Seymour Hoffman
In terms of physical appearance, Brody seems to fit the bill. For psychopathic pleasure, I think both Depp & Brody could show a side that no one has seen. A Two-Face I hadn't thought about until today...Alec Baldwin. If you saw 'The Edge' with Anthony Hopkins, you KNOW Alec could play Two-Face perfectly. He also has that 'Gotham-look' for Batman. PSH IS a really good choice for Penguin. Also, maybe that guy who played Matt McConaughey's lawyer friend in 'A Time To Kill'.
At any rate, I'm already stoked for the sequel and I never really got into the whole superhero thing until last year's film. Sure, I'd read the comics and watched the shows growing up, but nothing excited me until Bale's Batman came out. Not even the first Spiderman.
Your thoughts please...

They're not really having three villians, are they? Why can't they simply make a superhero movie with ONE friggin bad guy?!?Originally Posted by JetersQueen

Nolan directing = goodOriginally Posted by JetersQueen
3 villians = horrible idea. Especially the 3 biggies in one film. There wouldn't be enough on each of them and that will drag their character's down. The next one should be the Joker and have Scarecrow come back (b/c he didn't die or get caught in Batman Begins).
By his lawyer friend don't you mean Sandra Bullock?
I think he means Oliver Platt, but Sandra might bring a fresh take on Oswald Cobblepott...Originally Posted by RhodyYanksFan

Ahh that's right. I never liked the Penguin. Too silly a villian.Originally Posted by MisterNovember
My bad. I should've been more clear about the villains. I don't understand it, but apparently they (the studio execs) are undecided about WHICH villain will appear in the sequel even after showing the Joker card. I expect the Joker, but the other two are possibilities. Those are the actors that are in the running to play them.
Oliver Platt is exactly who I'm talking about. He and P. S. Hoffman are okay choices. They are both round. I'm reaching here, but another good one might be Jim Belushi.

Dunno if it was discussed at all, but the guy who plays the Scarecrow in this film was the main character in 28 Days Later (a movie i really enjoyed).
