They needed to have Ras al ghul because of all the backstory. To also have one of the premier villians along with that would have been wasteful. The Joker deserves his own movie.

No, I didn't mean Scarecrow with the Joker, but save the Scarecrow and pair him up with a lesser villain. In comparison, Sandman alone would not have carried Spiderman 3, hence they brought Venom in. (Plus whatever happens with Harry).

I guess I mis-read you. I think that Scarecrow + Ras al ghul < The Joker. Those are two secondary villians, and since Ras was a big part of the way they explained Batmans origin, they needed another second tier villian.

Disagree with the latter part. The only thing I am not looking forward to in Spiderman 3 is the amount of villains being piled into it. It could make the film a clusterf*ck.

Are you kidding me? Scarecrow was an awesome villian. The way they made you see what the infected people saw (zombies, Batman as a demon, etc) was such a good feature of the movie.

I'm co-signin' with you on this one too, Rhody. The character was great. About Heath Ledger, I'm not feelin' it, but I wasn't feelin' Batman Begins and was wonderfully surprised, so....we'll have to see.

I'm hearing conflicting reports on SM3. Maguire hinted SM3 could be it, but Raimi recently stated that they plan to make a total of six. There was a rumor that Venom doesn't show up until the end of the movie setting up a cliffhanger to part 4.

Yea this is the same thing I heard/read...Venom doesnt show up til the end. And Raimi plans on 6 but Toby and Kirsten are only signed for 3

That would make sense. However, if they sell this movie on Venom and don't deliver until the last few minutes of the film, and just to set up the next movie at that, they're gonna have a sh*tstorm on their hands.

As for the Batman film, I think Ledger is actually a really unique, interesting choice. It's clear Nolan sees the character as a homicidal loon more than a comedic homicidal loon, thus the selection of a good young actor vs. someone like Robin Williams. I like it. I also would love to see Philip Seymour Hoffman as Penguin (I read somewhere that this incarnation will be some kind of Russian arms dealer - that would be a great take on the character), as has been rumored. Although again, I'd rather one villain per movie.

This Batman, I am really looking forward to. Ledger is an excellent choice for this movie.

Robin Williams was actually considered in the Tim Robbins/Joel Schumacher versions. As much as I like him, he would be all wrong for movies with this feel.

The Joker needs to scare the crap out of you when he's on-screen. He needs to scare the crap out of you off-screen. I honestly don't think I've seen a Heath Ledger movie, but I hope he can pull this off.

If they go the Penguin as an arms dealer route, that's not too far with they way they've reworked him into the comics. Right now, he's more or less a gang boss that best compares to the Sydney Greenstreet character in Casablanca.
