Unrest in the Marlins' locker room?

    http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins...LUMP_0610.html

    Feeling frustrated

Some players voice discord over McKeon.

MIAMI GARDENS — All of the Marlins agree that the team is underachieving because top players are not performing to their potential. But some players also fault manager Jack McKeon, saying that he sets a negative tone.

"There's obviously something wrong," said a player, one of five who spoke on condition of anonymity. "We don't have the same chemistry we had two years ago.''

It was May 2003 when McKeon was named to replace Jeff Torborg, who was fired. McKeon, who was known for his fiery temperament, led the struggling team to a World Series championship.

But now, some players find his style abrasive and are weary of his profanity-laced critiques. Some also object to his shuffling of the lineup.

McKeon contends that he hasn't changed since taking over the club. The difference now, he said, is the recent lack of success.

"When things go tough, everybody has different theories," he said before Thursday's game.

He added that he hasn't heard of any disharmony.

"None of the players have complained," he said. "If you don't like something, come in and talk to me. My door's always open.''

Bothers me that players allegedly will speak to the media anonymously, but not directly to the mgr.

So McKeon's the problem? My how things change.

And no, the irony of me saying that and having a "Fire Me" next to Joe Torre as my icon isn't lost on me.

It's amazing how things really do change in a short period of time.

Re: Unrest in the Marlins' locker room?

I would love to know who the '5 players who spoke on the condition of anonymity' are. Anonymous comments are always a more interesting read than actual quotes, aren't they?
Marlins lost some tough 1 run games in the last two weeks. In as tight a division as the NL East, they can't afford to not bring their 'A' Game every night.

Chemistry =credit when they win..and non-chemistry blamed when they lose? Give me a break.

Blaming these losses on McKeon is ridiculous and unfair. If these guys think McKeon is 'abrasive and are weary of his profanity-laced critiques', its a good thing they weren't around during the Jim Leyland days.
Oh wait....that team won a WS, too..

Bothers me that they're complaining about his critiques when they're not playing all that well.

I imagine a baseball team isn't all that different from any other workplace in a lot of ways. A lot of people like to backbite behind the scenes but don't have the guts to express their opinions and be accountable for them.
