    Brett Boones Bat Flip

I just noticed this in tonights game. Does he always do the bat flip? He did it on the line drive he hit just over A-Rods glove and on the final out.
I figured he did it on the line drive because he hit it pretty well, but then he did it on the final out, and I doubt he thought that was gone.

So in summation, does he always do it?

He doesn't always do it, I think he figured that was at least a double.

But, if no one's going to knock him down, I don't see any reason for him to stop doing it.

If you don't want him to do it, knock him down or get him out.

I hate this guy - I've never liked him. He has this annoying smirk that I'm glad his brother never inherited. I'm glad he's not as successful a ballplayer as he once was - he's one of the guys I'm glad has declined.

He does it far too often. I'm not sure why it rubs me the wrong way, but, apparently I'm not alone. I find it far more irretating than anything else done by any batter that I've noticed.

I'm with you. I don't even like show boating on homers but to flip your bat on a routine single? Give me a break.

He always does it, and has for many years now. Its part of his swing; not a showboating tactic. He does it sometimes even after he strikes out.

Ya know what I hate about him? That G-d@mn neck warmer he wears when the weather is cold. It has the huge Seattle logo on the front. He wore it in the last series in Boston, he looks like such an ass with that thing on

    what a p*ssy

And yes... his name definetly comes up when steroids are discussed. The whole bat flip thing, I don't mind though. I like the showboating... adds a little something to the game.

I agree that it can be irritating. However, I find the Sosa bunny hop to be more obnoxious.

Gosh guys, get off of boones back!

I mean, if he wants to do the dang flip then let him! He is an MLB veteran and he can do as he pleases at this point. I love Boone because, unlike his brother, he is a fan favorite (and is known for more than just one *spectacular* play), I saw him outside Safeco and I said hi and he carried on a semi-conversation with me. More than most players ever would.

Yea, its kinda like saying "Ha! I just took your pitch out!" or something like that.

THIS IS NOT A FLAME! I'm just wondering whether you guys like it when Jeter does his little fist pump thing since you say you don't care for showboating? Again, I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything, I'm just asking an honest question. Don't jump on my back.

EDIT: For added emphasis on how I don't mean to be offensive about this, I will say that I hate it when Manny or Ortiz admire their blasts.

I don't like any kind of showboating....especially if/when Yankees players do it.

Who cares what happens...as long as the homeruns being hit by the Yankees are winning us games. How many of us can go up there and hit a 90+ pitch over 400 feet? If I could, I would be doing the cucaracha!

A fist pump is not showboating, IMO. Players aren't robots, and why shouldn't Derek show some happiness about a clutch hit or a good play on the field?

I feel the same way about the Manny/Ortiz/Pedro double-pointing thing from last year. (Don't know Manny or Ortiz are doing it this year too). And even the man-hugs. Well, some of the man-hugs.

What about splits at home? Only if it's for an american express commercial?

I agree. A fist pump or a clap isn't showboating. That's not standing at home watching a HR ball leave the yard and then tossing your bat aside as if you're too good to even round the bases.

thats not showboating. if a man can do a split, thats talent and he should show it off.

but when you have guys jumping through flamming hoops on the basepaths, or doing the electric slide down the 3rd base line (much like you see today), thats unnecessary showboating

Or even worse, standing at home watching the ball...and then it stays inside the yard.

And getting only a single out of it.

I wonder how many singles Soriano hit that should have been doubles or triples because of that?

    Arrrrrrgh. Too many.

At least Soriano had some speed where he maybe could make up some ground racing around the bases.

Actually, the Mariners had a commercial a few years ago poking fun at it. They showed Boone walking into stores, picking things up and dropping them. At the end, he walks into Pinella's office and picks up a fancy looking small statue-to which Lou stares at him and says "Don't even think about it..."

Actually it is still around, but revamped

    It was with Melvin

Boone was in the locker room and he is flipping his bat, he gets it right and goes "Yes!"

He goes around the front office grabbing staplers, pencils, etc. and then goes into melvin's office and grabs some award he got, flips it and breaks it.

I think Jorge has had a couple of those too (well, not triples, but doubles).

Or even worse is being on base and watching someone else's HR go out but it hits off the top of the wall and you get thrown out at the plate *cough* Timo Perez *cough*

I saw that too, he would flip the phone to the ground instead of hanging it up, I think he might've been chopping wood or raking or something like that and flipped that too.
