What Do You Think Of These Pitching Stats?

Through 32 games would you take this guy:

    2.69 ERA
    7.37 K/9
    .228 BAA
    .632 OPS
    1.17 WHIP

I know I would, but here's the thing:

Those are the numbers for the ENTIRE Marlins pitching staff; Starters AND relievers.

    They have just been ROLLING.
    Mo' Nut: One Smoove Brotha.

    Jaret Wright's 2005 Cy Young Season: 20-3, 3.04 ERA

That's the number that jumps out at me. Pokey Reese has a career OPS higher than that. So the Marlins entire staff is treating hitters like they are a step below Pokey. Wow.

Yow, thanks for putting that into perspective. The fact that these numbers reflect the entire staff, and are not at all qualified - only the bullpen, only the starters, only Burnett and Willis on Sundays after Church - is what really impresses me.

And I think most of their starting pitchers are home grown (Willis, Becket and Burnett). Imagine if they would have kept Brad Penney (another homegrown?) instead of the struggling 18 year veteran Al Leiter? But Leiter should get better anyway.

I know what kind of pitcher Whitey was and kind of person he is. It makes me feel proud to be a Yankee. We're keeping this in the family. (On breaking Whitey's PS consecutive scoreless innings)

Those are some impressive numbers. I'm sure the Marlins would take those numbers for the whole year, they would win a ton of games.
