Thread: Curt Schilling to be Placed on 15 Day DL (merged)

Curt Schilling Placed on 15 Day DL

Just saw on the news in Boston, funny enough, they cut away from the regular show they had on for a "Breaking News Report"...

Schilling was placed on the 15-Day Disabled List, with I believe they said a bone bruise on the ankle that was operated on last year.

Report: Schilling to be placed on 15-Day DL

Per Channel 7 and WEEI, supposedly for a 'bone bruise in his ankle.' When it rains it pours I guess.

A "breaking news report"? Sheesh. In September or October, maybe...in late April? Lordy.

So now the staff will feature John Halama as the #4 guy...with Wade Miller's availability as the #5 a still-open question. Dumbest thing the Sox could do is rush him back now to cover this early-season mini-crisis. Let some kid in Pawtucket get smacked around for a start or two, as opposed to that.

Maybe they already brought someone up to fill in Curt's shoes. By that I mean perhaps they brought up Lenny Dinardo (a starter in Pawtucket) to make a start or two. Whatever happens, this is bad news for ther Red Sox

Did they say how he bruised it? This seems weird.

I can't wait to hear the spin about how this is good for the Red Sox. Stark was all about the Red Sox depth with Halama and Miller. I guess we get more of this.

    Get well soon Gehrig38.

While you're out, show David Wells how to show some restraint at the dinner table.

    Please.

Maybe come July, Clemens will be a Sox again? I am not a doctor, but it can't be good to have that happen in the same spot he was operated on.

That is Gammons hope. He did say he asked if Boston was a possibility to his source and the answer was, yes. Gammons always looking out for his team.

From your lips to God's ears. I have only said that prayer nighly for nearly a decade.

Hope Schilling will recover quickly. As for Wells, he has met my expectation.

This is great news for the Red Sox. Schilling and Wells can now work on their golf games, conserving energy for October. Great moves by Theo putting these guys on the DL.

If it does happen, I will be curious to see how the same fans, the likes that insulted his family when he pitched there for the Yankees. The fans that tore down his 20K poster inside the stadium greets Roger should a trade happen.

Actually, I hear that Schilling alone will be working on his golf game. David's going to hit the bars and practice arm-wrestling, aiming to take down lefty-superstar, Travis Bagent.

hmm, so Wells out up to a month, Schilling out at least 15 days, Miller not ready until Mid-May... Clearly it's too early in the season for the sox to feel like theyre doomed, but it should be an interesting few weeks. Clement gave up 7 runs and 12 hits in 4 2/3 yesterday, a lot of my sox fan friends are flipping out right now.

Arroyo has been a real good pitcher since mid-season last year, and Wakefield thus far has been dominant. It will be interesting to see how they react now having to hold down the top spots in the rotation. I'm guessing Halama and Lenny DiNardo fill the other two spots for now? Since DiNardo was brought up a couple days ago I assume he will get a couple spot starts.

I bet Joe caught a lot of flack for not bunting last year. Joe may be classy, but George certainly isn't. I think we'll bunt this time.

I'm no doctor, but the surgery he had was major. If now he has a bone bruise in it (I can only guess it's from too much use too soon) that it will be more than 15 days. In four starts, he really did not show that much improvement, if not the opposite. I am not ready to worry (from a Sox perspective) about Clement yet as Baltimore has been hitting everyone so far. But even if he is solid, Clement/Arroyo/Wakefield/Miller/Halama scares no one.

    From BDD:

"The term the doctors are using is a bruising of the bone. In the general area where he had problems last year. He's going to wear a boot for a couple of weeks, aleviate the stress. He's going to use these couple of weeks to do the things he can do. He said he felt a tweak right at the very end (of his outing in Tampa). He went out and threw a side, we went and had some tests with the medical people. We'll get through today's game adn set our rotation. We're kind of crazy to set it in stone (with the impending rain) until after today."-- Terry Francona on with WEEI's Dale and Neumy

I hope Clemens won't go to the Sox -- he's still looking pretty good.

Anyway...badly f-ed up ankles are an ongoing nightmare. I speak from experience -- and that's even with going to top specialists (although I haven't quite resorted to the extreme that Schilling did during the playoffs last year.)

Come to think of it, I wonder if that procedure has had any carryover ill effects for him...

And the extra weight --- all carried from his gut on up, so it appears -- can't be helping matters either.

He may not have been healthy, but if you are on the mound then all bets are off. You won't see a linebacker go easy on a QB even if the QB has an injury. If the pitcher is out there then he says he's ready.

I really believe that the only team that Roger would go to is the Yankees. While I don't know Roger personally, or his thinking, it would be like coming back home with your tail between your legs to pitch in Boston the way he was run out of town there. The way he was treated is unforgiveable.

If the rumor is right that Clemens can ask for a trade, it's that he can go to the Yanks or Boston and while Boston doesn't have that much more in prospects than the Yanks, they do have more. If it comes to a bidding war then we will likely be on the short end.

Yeah, I think the same. However, the Yankees don't have squat to trade for him so we'll have to see how it goes. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that.

    Wright?

I'm not saying I would advocate trading Wright, but you know how George likes to give up on younger arms for elderly veterans.
