    Yankee fans... did you know?

Did you know that in 1950... the Yankees won 15-10 after trailing 9-0 in the sixth inning to the Red Sox on April 18th?

April 18th is now here again. Are you an optimist or a pessimist starting today? Take a good look at what everyone was predicting here before the season began. The season is still young. Get up and back in the race. Red Sox fans have always lived like this for years!

I just hope you stay behind us.

For the Yankees last 10 games played on April 18th beginning in the year of 1992... the Yankees are 7 and 3.

That on the end of the day on April 18th, 1997... the Yankees were in last place with a 6 and10 record, .375 and 5.5 games back from first place. The Yankees finished that year at 96 and 66... the second best record in the American League. They were third best overall for both leagues.

No offense but I HATE Stats like this. I don't understand how what a team did back in 1950 or 1990 for that matter did, will affect this year's team. Just 'cause they are the "New York Yankees"?

I know you're just trying to keep us sane but these stats are worthless.

I rememeber watching the Wings/Avs game 7 in '02 and they kept saying how Colorado hadn't lost a game 7 in "X" amount of series and the Wings F'd 'em up 8-0. This stuff means zip.

Good lord how many smileys does a man have to use to not get attacked for trying to inject a little lightheartedness around here?

God it's like a morgue or something.

    I dig the stats, Dave.

NEW YORK -- Whether it was Joe Torre's postgame meeting on Sunday, George Steinbrenner's postgame statement or simply some hitters finding their groove at the same time, the Yankees offense exploded on Monday night against the Devil Rays.

New York scored a remarkable 13 runs in the second inning, belting 11 hits and sending 17 batters to the plate.

The frame started when Tampa Bay starter Rob Bell walked Hideki Matsui, then served up an 0-1 fastball to Alex Rodriguez which was quickly deposited in the seats for his third home run of the year and a 2-0 Yankees lead.

Jason Giambi then doubled, moving to third when Jorge Posada grounded out to first. Tino Martinez singled in Giambi, advancing to second when right fielder Chris Singleton bobbled the ball, making it a 3-0 game.

But the Yankees were just getting started.

Following a Tony Womack single, Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams and Gary Sheffield rattled off three consecutive RBI singles, boosting the lead to seven. A single by Matsui loaded the bases for A-Rod, who belted a two-run double to left to make it 9-0.

Bell was finally put out of his misery after Rodriguez's double, as Tampa Bay called on Lance Carter from the bullpen.

    Facts machine
The Yankees' 13 runs in the second inning Monday night tied the Major League record for runs in the second inning. The record for runs in any inning is 18 (Chicago vs. Detroit, Sept. 6, 1883, fifth inning):
    LeagueNumberGame
    NL13New York vs. Cleveland,
    July 19, 1890
    Atlanta vs. Houston,
    Sept. 20, 1972
    San Diego vs. Pittsburgh,
    May 31, 1994
    AL13Kansas City vs. Chicago,
    April 21, 1956
    New York vs. Tampa Bay,
    April 18, 2005

Carter intentionally walked Giambi to load the bases again, bringing up Martinez. The first baseman put the icing on the inning, drilling a grand slam to right field, capping the 13-run inning and receiving a curtain call from the Bronx crowd.

In the inning, every Yankees batter had at least one hit and scored at least one run.

The 13-run inning was the most for the Yankees since June 21, 1945, when they scored 13 in the fifth inning of a 14-4 win at Boston. Monday marked just the third time they have scored 13 in an inning, the first at Yankee Stadium. The 11 hits in the frame are the most in a single inning by the Yankees since they did it on April 11, 1987, at Kansas City.

The club record for runs in an inning is 14, which the Yankees did on July 6, 1920, against Washington at the Polo Grounds. Mark Feinsand reporter

Re: Yankee fans... did you know?

I sure know how to stick my foot into it when the Yankees are concerned. First I did this April 18th did you know thing and you saw what happened later that day... and then later on I start a Yankee win streak thread that I originally get pounded for by some Yankee fans... ... and then they start their 10 game winning streak!

Wonder if I should do anymore of these type of things?

Did you know that on May 25th in 1922, that the Babe... after being called out for trying to stretch a single into double... throws dirt in the umpire’s eyes, then goes after a heckler in the stands and finishes his tirade by standing on the dugout roof calling the crowd “yellow” cowards. These actions will result in a one game suspension, a $200 fine, and will cost him his position as Yankee captain. Playing in New York, the Yankees go on to beat Washington in the game 6-4. Their record for the season as of May 25th, is 25-14.

Did you know that on May 25th in 1935, Babe Ruth hits the final three home runs - numbers 712, 713 and 714 - of his brilliant career. Ruth, wrapping up his playing days with the Boston Braves, connects three times and adds a double in an 11-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Did you know that on May 25, 1937, the playing career of Tiger player-manager Mickey Cochrane comes to an end when he is hit in the right temple by a Yankee pitcher Bump Hadley fastball. The future Hall of Famer will fall in and out of a coma over the next 10 days before recovering.

Another "Did you know" related to that game... that Mickey Cochrane hit a home run in the last official at bat of his major league career in the same game against the Yankees.

Hope todays game won't have another bean war like yesterday.
