The Auction is upon us, gentlemen!

Tomorrow night we will be having our auction at Fantasy Auctioneer!

Please make sure you arrive promptly so we can get this done as quickly and efficiently as possible. If this means not taking up extra time by bidding against me for players that I throw out, then so be it. It will be for the best of the league.

Also, please look at the magazines that you are using for values and make sure that the prices they are listing are MIXED LEAGUE prices, not AL ONLY or NL ONLY. Most magazines list AL only and NL only prices, and they are sometimes significantly higher than mixed league numbers. You will end up overpaying greatly if you don't check!

Oh yeah, the draft. I should start looking into values and stuff for that.

I'm excited / nervous too... nervous only because Snatch may or may not be conducting the draft buck naked with a glass of cranberry juice to refresh him.

SOLD! See you for the other league's draft, Eric, now that you have your team for this.

Edit: Oops. Chanman beat me to the "Sold!" line. I read his post before Eric's so it didn't register.

As commish, I have to disallow this bid. The maximum you can bid for Johnny's services is $238 so as to leave youself with enough money for the other 22 players on your roster.

I don't know-I think Flaherty could win you at least 7 of the 10 categories singlehandedly (all five hitting and two pitching). I think that's a low estimate for him. If Eric doesn't have any other players, so be it.

I agree completely in regards to Flaherty's dominance, it just that it would breaking the rules of the constitution.

Ks and WHIP, clearly. After thinking about it, he might not win SB singlehandedly, but he'd be good for second. (You need to be reasonable about these predictions.)

Ha. You think anyone would actually trade you Flaherty for Jake Peavy? Yeah, and I'll trade you Rey Ordonez for Albert Pujols. Flaherty and Ordonez play C and SS. (If Ordonez still even exists.) Those are tough posistions to fill. They're far more valuable than Peavy and Pujols.

I'm wondering who the top three pitchers are going to be?

You can go by what the mags tell you, and in a snake draft it would probably follow them, but when it comes to an auction setting, you just can't tell.

I'm curious as to what the "Yankee Premium" will be in our league.

At the same time, there should be a Red Sox discount...Schilling for $10, Manny & Papi for $20 (package deal), buy Edgar get Damon free....that type of thing

Yes, the Yankee Premium will be interesting to follow. I want to see if it has an effect on marginal players that wouldn't have been otherwise purchased in non-Yankee leagues...

I would never pay more than $18-$20 for a player. That's just DUMB. If the bidding goes that high for any player (I don't care HOW good they are), then you're simply a fool to bid.

It's really too bad we aren't doing this face to face. I'm a poker player, I'd probably be able to make a few of you pay much more then you'd want.

Maybe in future years we can all get together if this really holds up.

Auctions in person are a TON of fun. You drink beer, bullsh!t, watch people struggle ovver whether or not to raise a bid, see people's reactions, etc. Its good stuff.

Even if we can only get the local people together, we could still have guys like Yanksphan, boo_427 and Mark19 (although he should be back to the states by then) on a conference call using an 800 number. We did this in another league I was in, and it worked great.

We had a bunch of people in my friend's living room, and then people on a conference call from Chicago and Ohio.

We actually started the auction in the car on my cell phone using that conference call number!

If you decide to do conference call, let me know the info. I'd be able to join in.. and since it's after 9PM, the call would be free for me. Nice

In all honesty, its tough to read me; I'm a cocky sonofabitch all throughout a draft or auction.

Even if you have me figured out, I still don't care. I'm an absolute pain in the ass when it comes to these things in person.

cocky players are the toughest to read. You'd play the worst hand in the world like you have the nuts and it drives most people crazy. It's a good strategy if you can pull it off really well.

Hey, I just caught up. Out of work today, been fighting a sinus migrane. You guys ever heard of one these? I hadn't until today, the damn pressure was ridiculously intense.

However, after a shot and some medication I am feeling much better.

    SC,
Some real talent out at that place. My lady friend actually went there on Saturday with her friends. Its a hard place to a have a bad time. Pretty much part of the Buckhead resurgence. Virginia Highlands area is also a good time waiting to happen.

Hmm...I'm thinking San Diego might be a good place for a get together...we could have the auction on the beach, complete with ring-girls in bikinis to announce the players!
