Thank God. Now the fans who bought OD tickets can be happy, and the Yankees can get a glimpse of something they need to strive for.

They have every right to do it -- they are the champions...It's interesting though...I would have thought nothing about it if they had just done it -- however, with the story about them not rubbing it in the Yankee faces, and then deciding to go ahead, that's just a little strange to me...I heard Francona on with Kay the other day and he said he was not in favor of doing it.

Either way, I was at the ring ceremony in 2000 for the Yankees (I think it was 2000, from the '99 season) and it was against the A's on Memorial Day weekend ...that's how long it took to get the rings...they must not have used the same company.

I agree, I would be insulted if they didn't do it for the reason of "considering the Yankees feelings".

As hard as it will be for me to watch, it was the right decision. The Yankees playing the Sox on opening day however, is asinine.

I have a friend in the sox office and they wanted to hand them out on an off day so they could fill the park up another day during the summer and reap the benefits of cencessions/souvenirs. They still hadnt decided how they would distribute the tix. They also never announced that they were going to give out the rings OD anyway. My guess is since they havent won it in nearly a century all the dopes who bought tix for the game just assumed they would be doing it at the first home game.

Mixed emotions on that. One one hand, it is incredibly cool and exciting to open the season home and away against the Red Sox. Flip side is playing the Sox opening day somewhat detracts from opening day itself. It feels like we're simply being launched into a continuation of the ALCS without starting a new season.

Thank goodness. I never saw such drama and carrying on (by Red Sox and their fans) over when rings are going to be given out. Let them give them out and get it over with and start playing some baseball.

I won't be watching. Best case scenario, Yankees kick their asses in the first three games of the season at Yankee Stadium. A sweep to start off 2005, then they can go to Boston, watch the hoopla, get riled up and continue to kick their asses in an embarrassing second sweep.

Red Sox fans, no need to reply to my opinion---I won't read your rebuttal.

Well, you'd think that would be it, but the fans have already started planning taunts for each Yankee when each Red Sox player gets their ring. Evidently, the fans believe the Red Sox will make it a real drawn-out presentation which will give the fans ample time to spew their venom at the opposing team.

Let them have their fun. It has no relevance to the upcoming season. 2004 is over, IMO.

My dad and my sister will be at the April 11th home opener for the Sox. So, if any of you see a screaming Sox fan and a teenage girl about 17 sitting next to him dying of embarrassment, that would be them.

Get over it folks! Regardless of what childish, unprofessional ranting the Sox are doing now, THEY WON LAST YEAR fair and square! Let them have their moment when they choose and let's move on to the 2005 season.

Please don't tell us to "get over it".

If I was going to that game, I wouldn't be able to watch it either. As a Yankee fan, it's hard to watch one your most hated rivals receiving their championship rings. I would surmise the same would go for Sox fans at YS if the Yanks had won the WS last year. Just because some people here don't want to watch doesn't mean we aren't letting them have their moment.

I think it's undeniable that it IS a big deal to the Sox and their fan base that they give out their rings against the Yanks. You know what? That's fine by me. Their championship will forever be intertwined with that ALCS.

I heard this from one of the personalities on EEI as well.

Yankeography is for the fans who get there early to enjoy, not to rub it into opposing teams. These guys have such a complex they'll grasp at anything.

I don't think it makes one bit of difference to any Yankee whether they do it or not. It made no difference to me. The only thing was that it had to be made a big deal of, rather than just doing it.

Me too. I'm glad they're going to give the rings out on Opening Day, then they can't say that they were being respectful of the Yankees and all that garbage. The Yankees will take their lumps and be over it and no one can say they were poor sports about it. Let them have their pound of flesh because that seems to be what they need to make themselves feel important. I never saw such melodrama over a bleeping ring ceremony. Did the Angels or Marlins go through this? I don't think so.

Agreed. I hd to laugh when I read what the Red Sox spokesman said that "giving out the rings on opening day is a tradition." Huh? Whose tradition? Not anyone I can recall recently, unless they're referring to a Red Sox tradition which hasn't ocurred since 86 years ago.

I thought Yankeeography was for my 7 year old nephew, to help him understand the great history behind this franchise, as well as info for any other interested FAN. Every team does something similiar. Is Millar that dumb?

Wouldn't a ceremony like this be held well before the game, without being televised outside of Boston, and with the Yankees probably still in the clubhouse? Why does anyone think that the Yankees would have to be subjected to anything at all? I can't imagine the Yankees sitting in their dugout or standing along the first base line while the Red Sox spend 30 minutes on their ceremonies.

Let the Red Sox get their well-deserved rings, raise their banner, and let's play 2005 baseball.

However, if the Red Sox fans DO use what should be THEIR moment as an opportunity to knock the Yanks, then they really are a pretty pathetic bunch.

Wow. He really is a piece of work. I guess he doesn't realize that Yankeeography is played before every game, not just Boston games.

And the reason is not to intimidate or humiliate opposing teams, it is to envelope baseball fans in the tradition of Yankee excellence while visiting the cathedral of baseball.

The people going to opening day are either season ticket, buyers at an ungodly amount of money from scalpers, or 10 pack holders for 95% of the seats.

I'm expecting a corporate crowd and I would disregard whatever you have read or heard. Those folks will be watching it at home.

This whole fiasco stems from some moronic fans assuming that the rings were going to be handed out on OD. The sox never said anything about this even happening on OD but they had people who have spent hundreds on tickets b1tching and moaning because something nobody ever told them was going to happen isnt going to happen. Good for the sox to move this ceremony to save the hide of these morons.

I doubt any of the yankees will be on the bench for the ceremony.
