I liked it when the ball went off of Nash's head. Cudos to the Suns for winning 3 out of 4 of the events. They should have done this play last in order to sweep the competition but they did not.

he had a lot of problems with that soccer pass. the worst part was suffering through chris andersons dunks.

Re: Favorite Dunk in the Slam Contest

Most outstanding Slam Dunk Contest in years. I was impressed with the creativity and thought these guys put into their stuff (and NO, I'm NOT talking to you Chris Anderson). J.R. Smith deserves a little credit, too. Most creative (and my favorite) was the Amare/Nash header, but the jaw-dropper was Josh Smith's chair dunk. The fact that he didn't need any do-overs added to its "OH S**T!!!" factor. 4 dunks, all on the first try -- it definitely makes a difference.

Honorable Mention for the Dominique tribute dunk -- VERY entertaining.

Re: Favorite Dunk in the Slam Contest

The 4 best dunks in the whole thing were 3 by Josh Smith and 1 by JR Smith.

    1) The last dunk he did. 360 windmill. He completely finished the 360 and was staring at the rim for a good half a second while in mid air. I've NEVER seen anyone do that. Unbelievable. If you get the chance, watch this dunk again in slow-mo. He just hovers for an instant affter doing the 360 and kind of stares at the rim. Sick.

    2) The Dominique throwback. He takes off from OUTSIDE THE PAINT, AND DOESN'T START COMING DOWN UNTIL ABOUT 0.2 SECONDS BEFORE HE DUNKED IT. Absurd. Filthy. Its like the Mantle HR that hit the facade and was still rising.

    3) JR Smith Behind the back dunk. Wow. Never seen it before, and he got ABSOLUTELY JOBBED by the judges when Amare beat him out. To put the ball around your back and then CUFF IT? That was just incredible. When he first attempted it we all jumped up and started screaming. My one buddy who can dunk and is always trying creative things out was wide-eyed and said "No way. I just don't think you can do it. Plus, he's trying to cuff it. No way."...

...and then he put it down on the 3rd try. I guess a 42 inch vertical lets one do those sorts of things.

    4) The KMart dunk. The way his legs whipped around in the air was just proof that Josh Smith is a dunker the likes of Vince and Nique. Hops, acrobatics, and flair.

The Amare/Nash entries were pathetic. Nash headed the ball...so what? What did the dunk look like? Pretty standard, actually. Amare Stoudamire advances because another player does something unusual? Please.

    1. Would've been nice if TNT had shown it LIVE instead of Dr. J's gray whisker-biscuit talking about Amare's 4 chances at the J.R. Rider East Bay Funk.

    2. Nice touch with changing jerseys. Actually looked better in slo-mo. Actually looked even better when they showed Dominique's next to it.

    3. 2 things went against J.R.'s behind-the-back -- Took him 3 tries, and more importantly, it was the first dunk of the night. But VERY underrated and deserved better than a 45.

    4. Best. Dunk. Of The Night. The showstopper. The "OH $#!T" Award. No doubt about it.

I agree with you about the Amare/Nash header. Nothing outstanding about the dunk itself, a two-hand catch & slam. But what made it impressive (and my favorite) was the creativity and thought that went into it. Like the Ceballos "blindfold", and Dee Brown's Pump It Up/Hide My Face, it was about entertaining the crowd. Something that Chris Anderson failed to understand. They couldn't find ANYBODY better than HIM to replace LeBron??? Eeeeesh...

On a side note: How much fun would it be if everybody took Kenny Smith's challenge and we had a Kobe/Vinsanity/LeBron/Josh Smith showdown next year? You could even throw in T-Mac & 'Melo.

Josh Smith's dunk with Kenyon Martin was sick. He also paid homage to "The Human Highlight Film" and one of the dunking legends, Dominique Wilkins by wearing his jersey and doin' his tomahawk.

I like to see Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Vince Carter, Josh Smith, and Jason Richardson in a dunk contest one time.

That would be freakin' SICK!!!! Kobe and Carter IMO are the best dunkers in the league ever. Even better than Jordan. Although #23 is lightyears ahead of them in overall talent and skills.

    Kobe is not up there.

    'Nique, Vince, and Smith.

I've been saying for months now that Smith would run away with this thing. I've watched a lot of his games on League Pass because I've had him on my fantasy team, and it was just so obvious how talented a dunker the kid was.

JR Smith's dunk was the most underrated of the night.

We need LeBron, Kobe, VC, JRich, and Josh Smith all next season. Maybe even Stevie Franchise.

    Franchise and Kobe OUT,

    Darvin Ham IN.

He got ROBBED the year he was in it. He did that dunk where he jumped up, turned one way, slapped the backboard, turned the other way and threw it down. One of the greatest dunks of all time. I think that was my sophomore year in college...and just like JR Smith, he got robbed because Kobe was in the mix.

Darvin Ham would make some serious noise in the dunk contest...although I'm not sure now given his age...
