Even if you are diligent about making it private or giving little info, your friends may not be. I have found much info about my daughter's friends and friend's kids from reading other people's stuff.

Nothing is private on the internet.
Well said. A few years ago, my daughter had a friend who, upon getting her drivers license, actually scanned the license and posted it in her LiveJournal!
It wasn't until a few friends clued her into the stupidity of posting a photo with address and drivers license number on it that she deleted the post. That's identity theft just waiting to happen.

I also can't believe how many articles I've read recently that talk about people getting fired from their jobs for things they've posted in their "private" online journals.

Nothing is private on the internet is right!

    A mixture of both.

Most of my friends are part of the Yankees community on Livejournal.

You have to use HTML. It might be <img src="url of image"> but I'm not sure on that.

I'm bumping this up, because I figured someone here might know.

How can I get video clip of a Yankees play on my profile? Like a clip of a HR or something?

I've seen it done before, I just can't find who's done it anymore.

There are some external sites that host videos(like music videos or those sports videos), I'd suggest finding one of those, and they'll have the html code that you need to just copy and paste into your profile.

Get ready for the crash course

Get your video loaded to a site. Then plug the URL address into this forumla and paste it into myspace

Where can I upload videos for free?

You can go to any of these:

    www.hotcodez.com

    www.musiccodescentral.com

    www.musicvideocodes.com

And find a song you like. It will give you a code to copy and paste into your "About Me" section of myspace. Hope it helps!

I read a story in Newsday today about some rocket scientist 17 year old from Nesconset that decided to make a "who do you hate" section of his my space. The snarky little bastards are sure having a good time with that.

What a waste of bandwidth sites like this are. That sort of thing is just inevitable. It's not bad enough that little bastards have to be bullies, now they have a larger avenue to hurt people.

I've never encountered that with anyone from my high school. Then again I only talk to people that I know. Otherwise I'm on pretty good terms with anyone, I think. How about that girl who wants to stab "Alex something" in the eye with a really hot french fry? That's pretty serious, just shows how immature some people really are; her and that Alex kid, because she's not saying that just because he's a good little boy.

If some reporter came to me and showed me that my kid was partaking in this sort of nastiness, her computer would be sold.

Some parents think that stuff all falls under the category of "kids will be kids."

If I was in high school right now, I'd have a "Who do I hate" section on my Myspace, because there were a lot of people I went to school with who I vehemently hated. I'd do it just to piss them off; you treat me like crap, I'm going to sling it back.

I don't get the hate some of you have for Myspace......it's a website. I have one, a lot of people I went to high school have one, and I actually started talking to some of my old friends again because I found them on Myspace. I really don't get why some of you don't like websites like Myspace and Livejournal.

    From that article
"You go everywhere and it's 'Do you have MySpace?'" she said.

Yea, I have a huge "What I hate" section on my MySpace. I don't mention specific names from my school, considering 95% of my friends list would have no idea who they are, and plus, I'd probably get beaten by all of them in a group in school. But I do imply that I hate certain people, and specifically mention certain types of people that I can't stand (I definitely imply I hate the majority of my school though - I even have Trumbull High listed as one of my hates, saying how I can't stand it there).

But I have gone off on public rants on the internet about the people in my school. I didn't mention names, but they all knew who I was talking about. And some of them noticed, which made me all the more happier.

As for MySpace, it's one of the greatest sites out there (and so is LiveJournal). Some of the people I talk to most are people I've met on MySpace/LiveJournal (many of them I haven't even met in person - yet it still seems like we've been friends in person for a long time). Hell, just about all of the people I relate to most I've met on LiveJournal (considering LJ is a little more personal and more anynomous until you talk to the person directly, you tend to find peope you can really relate to well on there - although I have met a few people I relate to well on MySpace too). These sites are really good for getting to meet people, especially from areas far away from you.

Well, I think that anyone who has to hide behind a computer screen and bully people is pathetic.

    How immature...

It's one thing to have a "Things I hate" section, but it's entirely different to name names.

I'm really sorry that my kids may have to go through this some day. The internet is a wonderful thing

I don't see anything wrong with this...if you connect with people that make you feel good about life and about yourself, more power to you.

But I think the bullying campaign like the one in the link I posted is pathetic, and anyone who would take part in it is a cowardly lowlife.

I agree, the bullying thing is that link if pretty lowlife.

I must say though, I'd probably have my name on there 100 times if I knew those people, and I'd probably want my name to show up on there.

Why though? Why would you want people to hate you?

I guess I just can't relate to that sort of mind set.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't go to high school in a bubble. There were cliques, and I didn't belong to the "popular" group and frankly didn't want to, because I had nothing in common with them.

I just did my thing and let them do their thing, and I got through high school without being on anyone's list.

I agree that is pathetic. If you read the book "Odd Girl Out" they mention the internet bullying (recommended to every girl and parent of a girl no matter how old).

I must admit, I hated high school, and most of my class (and they hated me). And no I don't want someone bullying me on myspace. They keep giving me a link of "add your school now" and I refuse to. I want to keep that hidden for that reason

Their really are internet bullies. I have seen them in some forums I belong to.

The ingenious thing about myspace is that you can really write anything, and no ones gonna stop you. I guess for some people, it allows them to vent, get out their agression if you will, instead of going up and shooting the school.

Don't get me wrong, I think myspace and all this stuff is a waste of time, but it's not all bad.

So the only two alternatives are an "I hate such and such" or shooting up a school?

I understand the need to vent, but naming names is just infantile.

I wouldn't say you can write "anything" and no one's gonna stop you.

If you write something threatening about another person or the school itself, believe the police will be knocking at your door.

True. True. I usually make up names that rhyme with the real names.

    That's true.

From the article, it seems like the guys that started the website are trying to get that thing under control, but I'm skeptical.

I tried emailing them when my 13 year old made herself a MySpace, and they never responded.

The only thing I have against MySpace is that the guy who runs it (and just sold it) lives down the street from me in a kick-ass house I'd like to be able to afford...

(There are actually a lot of alleged issues w/the co -- accounting type things... will be interesting to see how that shakes out)

    When did you email him?

A big problem with that website is that (from what I understand), there's only one person answering all the emails (technical, abuse, etc), and there are a lot of people emailing him daily. And he also has to fix all the technical bugs and whatnot with that site. So it could take a while before you get a response for it.

Thanks, but I'm looking for Yankees video clips, not music videos.

This was back in December of last year.

I was checking my daughter's computer and saw this site where she set up this account. I didn't like the site one bit, and I emailed the guy telling him of her age (she was 13), and never heard back from him. They don't give a damn. So I monitor it. When I see something I don't like, I make her delete it.

That's what I do too. I told my daughter no pictures are to be posted and that she has to make sure her friends don't post pics of her or our family either. I know one of her friends had pics of her which were removed, so I guess she's listening. Also, no cell phone or home phone numbers.

I just joined the NYYFans.com group and just about no one actually posts on it. Get to it people. I'll end up resigning from it in a week if you don't!

Why would you go there to post with people from here? Why wouldn't you just post here?

But I do imply that I hate certain people, and specifically mention certain types of people that I can't stand (I definitely imply I hate the majority of my school though - I even have Trumbull High listed as one of my hates, saying how I can't stand it there).

But I have gone off on public rants on the internet about the people in my school. I didn't mention names, but they all knew who I was talking about. And some of them noticed, which made me all the more happier.
I have a question. Why would you spend so much time an effort making a public statement about people you hate? If you hate them, they shouldn't be worth the time or effort to make a big stink about it. I hated 95% of my preppy stuck up school but I never gave a sh*t about them or cared what they thought. The only energy I wasted on them was raising a finger. And maybe an occasion "go f*ck yourself".

When you graduate you won't think about or care about any of them. They'll go about their lives and you'll go about yours. Trust me, they ain't worth even mentioning. I'm sure whoever is seeing the things you're writing is having a nice little chuckle and a certain degree of satisfaction with how much they get to you. Don't give it to them. You seem like a pretty unique individual who has no interest in being like everyone else. Part of that is not caring about those who do spend their lives trying to "fit in" and trying so hard to make it known you are like that can be considered part of the realm we call a "poser".

I agree 100%. I disliked a lot of people in my high school, but I didn't waste any of my time thinking of them. Life is too short to waste time on hate.

Good point, but I guess nothing would be moderated on the group. The only difference would probably be a handful of S-words and F-bombs. Oh, and all the anti-every other team that's not the Yankees talk one could want to vent out. That doesn't interest me though.

Yeah, I never had problems with anyone save for one or two people briefly. I was too busy hanging and going out with friends while working on graduating to worry about starting up a beef with someone over something that's probably not worth starting a conflict over. Unless it's your girlfriend...
