No kidding. My younger cousins have pages and they don't write anything but some of their friends detail every single thing they do. Clearly they don't care if their parents are reading the stuff. When I was in High School I would never have left a sticky note for my dad saying "I'm out drinking at so-and-so's house" which is basically the equivalent to what these kids do.Originally Posted by Trish

I have a Myspace
Rich
News Corp. just recently bought MySpace from parent company Intermix Media for something like $580 million.
I'm guessing those guys Tom and Chris (I think that's the other co-founder's name) are happy right now.
When i sit here and think about it.. I don't see the point of Myspace or xanga... but yet I have both, along with facebook. I don't go into depth with my personal life in xanga... i just post random stuff ... check it out in my sig if you want. I think facebook and xanga are good for keeping up with people you haven't seen in a long time and probably won't see for a while. It's just something for people to do..
I have both a myspace and a facebook. I tried to add everyone to my friends here, so if you have a friend request from Jessica, that would be me.
Facebook is addicting. Well, myspace is too but I've just started using facebook so I find it fascinating.![]()
Let's Go Yankees!
I've been on LiveJournal for over three years and I'm seriously addicted. Ugh, I need a life.
I have a Myspace that I started months and months ago, and have really only used it to get back in touch with some of my old classmates from HS & JHS (NCC doesn't give out student email addresses, so no facebook for me). I'm going to be working in the medical field, and the networking field is only for people with careers in the arts.
"Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred". Every. Single. Day. I've come to expect these "unexpected errors".
Then again, the groups and games are cool.
When the site is functional, that is.
Dieting isn't a piece of cake.
Nobody ever says "it's just a game" when their team is winning.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball" --Jacques Barzun
I have a myspace and a friendster. Face book is intriguing but my college experience was nothing to write home about (I commuted, I barely knew anyone there) and my high school experience was awful, so becasue of that I won't even list my schools on myspace/friendster (I hardly check the latter).
Live Journal is addicting. (link in my signnature)
I write entries where I pour my heart into, and if my family ever saw mine they would kill me. My last one was about girls who lose their identity and friends as soon as they start dating.
Anyone here's welcome to add me to their myspace or friendster list if they so please :)

I have a xanga. It's a great way to keep in touch with your friends. I never write anything too personal but they give you the option of having protected and private posts that only the users you want to read them can read them.
And it's fun making layouts.
With the hours of endless entertainment myspace provides it shouldn't be free. I'm really in awe of the stuff people will write in a public forum.
Does anyone know if myspace was started as a dating site or as a blog site?

I'm obsessed with MySpace. It HAS become my life... to the point that I have my friend count memorized at every single given second (2350 as of 8/24/05 at 2:10 PM... yea it jumped up, and I felt the need to edit this post). Yea, I'm that obsessed. I have a lot of stuff on there that would probably have my family disown me if they ever saw it (I already have had a few friends that saw my MySpace and became very pissed off at a few certain things), but it's nothing like my LiveJournal, which I'm not going to link to, since I think if any halfway normal person saw it, they'd look up all my personal info and have me be sent to a mental hospital immediately (and no, I'm not kidding, there's some things on there that are so personal that I refuse to let anyone that knows me personally see it). MySpace is a great tool for meeting people though, I've met a lot of great people across the entire world (all the way from the U.S. to Britain to Japan to Australia to even Africa) on there, some of them even in person (the ones closer to me, really, I also personally met a few out in Chicago though).
Anyways, here's my URL:

ADD ME (please).

I do it a lot. Especially on my LJ, but also on my MySpace. It's a place to vent out anger, and emotions and opinions that they wouldn't agree with or that you don't want them knowing. I'm an agnostic, I'm pro-gay rights, I'm straight edge, and if I went to a psychiatrist today, they'd put me on so much medication I wouldn't know which way is up anymore, none of which anyone in my family knows, mainly because if they found out about any of that, I'd probably be living on the streets begging for money right now. And that's only what I'm actually posting here, there's much more about me that would probably have my family (and friends) calling for my head to be cut off.Originally Posted by Trish

Why post it on a public forum? Why not just write it in your own personal hand-written diary or in a word document?
I just don't get the obsession with this kind of stuff. It is probably because I'm a private person and I don't want people to know my business.

I find comfort in the fact that 90% of the people I'm telling this stuff to can relate to it, and that i don't know them personally, it's not like they're going to come up to me and talk to me about things, or tell anyone else that I know. I'm a VERY private person, but I'm a little mroe open about things when I'm anonymous.Originally Posted by yanksrule69

That makes sense. I don't know though. Even if I was doing it anonymously I would always be thinking that someone I know would read it. I'm just paranoid I guess.Originally Posted by NYYRules#1

There's no such thing as privacy on the internet, and people that post their innermost secrets and thoughts are flirting with disaster.

I have posted how I felt a couple times. Sometimes its easier for me to write these things down than to express them. I put them there, because someone in my home could find a notebook I hand write emotions in, and when they find it, I never hear the end of it(Yes, this has happened). My parents aren't very computer literate so they wouldn't know how to find any of this stuff. Some stuff I just can't say to anyone in person(not really bad things like drinking and drugs...we talk about these things all the time). Like I can't go to my mom and say my heart is broken, my emotions are killing me,I'm stressed, etc. because to my mom, I shouldn't have any emotions that would kill me, no heartbreak, no stress, etc. So I need to vent my emotions somewhere. I can always call a friend to do that, but sometimes these emotions and my need to write comes @ 2:30 am. So I would not dare call someone that late(no matter if they say they don't care if I call late at night). Idk...its weird.

The family stuff.... it's also just venting. I don't know how many times you have gotten into a fight with someone and needed to vent afterwards because it hurt you. It's like you need to get it out somewhere.

I delete all the history on my computer, and have it protected so my parents can't see anything. As for other parents, I'll run that risk, I doubt any of my friends would tell their parents, and I only have one friend whose parents might actually check his computer.Originally Posted by Trish

I'm not sure how old you are. But my daughter is 14 and whether she thinks so or not, she needs to be careful of what she puts out there. I'm not the only parent that keeps tabs on what his/her children are doing on the internet. Too much potential for real trouble there.Originally Posted by NYYRules#1

I'm 16. I'd never meet with anyone without first making sure they're real anyways. I've dealt with predators before, sometimes its hard to tell if someone is one or not, but usually it becomes noticeable after while. I'm not really extremely concerned at this point, there's not many predators on MySpace, and it's very tough to fake a profile on there.Originally Posted by Trish

I just did a search on my town and a zillion 18 year old girls came up...just in my town alone. All cute, too.
God...I wish there was something like this when I was a kid!! (I have to admit, I'm jealous.) We really had to work hard at finding a girlfriend. Now, it's just click on a girl's pic, and away you go. Growing up in a small town where there wasn't much to do (thus being harder to meet people), this would've come in hardy.
Sorry I would never ask a chick out just because I saw her on myspace or something.Originally Posted by VFBundy

How do you know they are 18? I think you have to be at least 16 to create a profile there, so the 13 year olds lie and say they are 16 or older.Originally Posted by VFBundy

I have found much info about my daughter's friends and friend's kids from reading other people's stuff.
Nothing is private on the internet.

I don't know how old you are, but once I got out of college (and had just broken up with my girlfriend), it was a lot harder to meet people. This was in 1990, so the internet wasn't really around, but if it was, I think I would've used it for this.Originally Posted by yanksrule69
Plus...and I'm not saying you do this, since I don't know you...some guys will walk up to a woman in a bar and ask her out, solely based on her looks. What does he know about HER? Whereas, if someone writes something online, you at least get an idea of what that person is about. Even if they're lying about themselves (which women in bars can also do), you can gather a lot of info just by HOW someone writes and the things they say. It's just an easier way to weed out people you'd have nothing in common with, and also a way for you to notice people that you may not have noticed if you saw them at a club, or whatever.
To be honest, in my case, most of the people I would be compatable with were probably staying at home like I did!! (Yeah...I was and am a geek.) Pre-internet, how would you ever meet those people?
Anyway, to each his/her own. Just my take on this.
