    Re: The Yanks clean house!!{players released}

    2005 age as of April 1st in ( )

    (23) RHP Richard Barkley - Free agent signing out of Frontier League. Did very little for BC or SI.
    (25) RHP Alan Bomer - only pitched twiced after being drafted in the 4th round of 2002. I'm guessing an injury
    (22) RHP Dane de la Rosa - Drafted in lower rounds of 2002, didnt pitch until 03 because of back problems. Probably didnt look good in Mini Camp or such, because he did good in the GCL (at least enough to garner a chance to pitch above rookie league)
    (23) RHP Andrew Edwards - Drafted in 03, did not play until 04. Pitched crappy for SI. PP had him as the yankees #50 prospect, but i can understand them not keeping him around.
    (25) RHP Amad Stephens - Free agent signing out of Frontier League. Pitched alright for BC, but very old for the league.
    (21) RHP Adam Wheeler - Drafted in 01, accomplished very little in 3 minor league years. Only pitched 6 innings this year, which leads me to believe that there was an injury
    (21) RHP Edwin Cabrera - Dominican signing from a few years back. Has done very little, went on restricted list because he left the team for some reason around mid summer. No loss
    (23) RHP Raul Dominguez - Played in DSL in 03 and put up pretty good numbers if i remember. Hit decent average in GCL this year, but no power whatsoever. Also old for league
    (21) RHP Carlos Levy - Dont know anything about him, but he did squat in the GCL this year
    (21) LHP Sean Kramer - Drafted in 26th round of 2004, got spanked around at SI.
    (21) C Luis Romero - Useless for two straight years in GCL
    (21) SS Willie Vasquez - 4 years playing ball in America and couldnt crack a .235 BA. No loss.

i dont find any problem with any of these, except De La Rosa (but i dont know his whole story)

I would have liked to keep Edwards and La Rosa. PP made Edwards seem like he had some good stufff. I guess it was exaggerated or maybe they just don't have a place for him. De La Rosa is a mystery to me.

Not a single player on that list to make me even lose an ounce of sleep over them.

Edwards and DeLaRosa were D&Fs who just didn't pan out. Actually, Edwards was a try at the 5th year senior loophole. This guy has a great arm, but has no idea where the ball is going. At his age (23), and the fact he couldn't even find an ounce of success at low A ball- time to save the roster spot for a younger prospect.

DeLaRosa hasn't been healthy in 2 years- no use waiting on him.

I actually thought the Yanks released Bomer last spring. Whatever.

LHP Kramer may have been the draft pick, but I still think after seeing both pitch that Shaun Parker is better. That said, don't reserve a set of pinstripes for Parker either.

Like it was stated above, none of these moves will cause any anxiety. I doubt the word prospect will ever be associated with any of these guys.

I don't like letting big young lefties go so soon.So keamer was a suprise . Dane must have an injury they think will never let him progress. He was hitting mid 90s in CC and i read he wasn't doing it since being drafted.

Drew Edwards does have nasty stuff but the word we got from the organization (We talked to some people about his release) was that there was simply no place for him and they worried about his command. He is getting older also. He did have legit stuff though.

Haven't asked about them yet but I know De la Rosa had back surgery. Maybe he didn't bounce back well. Not sure about Wheeler.

No one here will be missed. Sure, there's potential in that group, but I think that there are better directions to go in.

I won't lose sleep over any of these guys, but I am reminded of an interview Tom Boswell did with Earl Weaver, in which Bos asked Earl what the hardest part of major league managing was. Earl admitted it was telling a young guy in the minors that the kid was getting released, and had no chance of making the majors. It was extremely difficult to stomp on their dreams at age 21. The hope was that the kid was young enough to find something else to do in life. So I do think about that as I scan this list of Yankee failures.

Well the end for most but now with the Indy leagues it might not be the end of the road.

Most kids who get drafted, or sign as free agents and start out in the minors realize that there is a very small chance that they ever get to the big show. Very small. So, if they are smart, they have something to fall back on.

Every year some 1500 guys are drafted, and hundreds others sign as free agents. How many of these 1800+ guys are still around in 5 years? Maybe 5%?

It's a tough world out there. These kids have to prepare for the worst.
