Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander: "I got stabbed in the back."

Shaun Alexander was 1 rushing yard away from the 2004 rushing title.

Memo to Shaun: You're a great player. But which it's more important: a rushing title or a division crown? Team first, Shaun. Team first.

Do you hear Curtis Martin complaining about a rushing title? Nope.

What a jerk. Your team won the division in a thrilling game and you're complaining about individual stats. Yeah, they should have given you the ball so that you could have fumbled it into the endzone like you did against the Jets.

"We were going to win anyway.." It was 21-20 buddy, you weren't up by like 17.

What's worse is the fact that Holmgren was checking upstairs all game to see how many yards he needed to clinch the title and told everybody in the media during the meetings the day before the game that he never had a rushing champion on his team before and he would try and do whatever it takes in the context of gameplanning in order to get Alexander the crown. (No links, heard Kay talking about it today.)

I guess he's the type of guy who could rush for 200 yards in a heartbreaking loss and still walk around with a smile on his face because he got his numbers.

EDIT: He held a press conference apologizing for his comments saying he was just caught up in the emotion of the moment. At least he backed away from his original stance.

You really want a guy who's that concerned with himself over his team? He's a great player, but I hate it when players would rather set records than win games, and it seems like it was at least AS important to him to get that record. (And, from what I heard on the radio, he didn't have a "rushing champion" clause in his contract or anything-he hit all incentives at 1,000 yards.)

Even if you are thinking that, saying it is just a big no-no, ESPECIALLY when the play works.

That's likely just damage control-he doesn't want people getting the impression that he's a me-first player. Too late, Shaun.

I doubt TO, Randy Moss, Keyshawn Johnson, or a host of other guys would have cared enough to say they were wrong. Randy didn't apologize for walking off the field with 3 seconds left when his team was trying to recover an onsides kick. He gets minimal credit for the apology, but credit never the less.

Sure, most players are selfish...he's a great runner and my Raiders need a great runner...

Gotcha. I guess I'm just spoiled with Curtis Martin, since he's a good guy in addition to a great back. I suppose if I was in your posistion I'd want Alexander too, thinking about it. I wouldn't mind having a guy like Randy Moss on the Jets, despite his baggage.

Well, I was kinda ticked when the Giants took no gain Dayne over him in the draft a few years back, and I've been kinda ticked while he was having success while Dayne was floundering....but at least Dayne never complained about not winning the rushing title.

Maybe, the Raiders should get Cal Berkeley's J.J. Arrington in the NFL draft.

Maybe if he didn't fumble when trying for a 1 yard run against my Jets he 1. would have already had the record and 2. his coach would have had the confidence to let him put it in there. Alexander should keep his mouth shut and stop complaining. Plus, my man Curtis Martin deserved this.

One selfish comment doesn't make him a bad guy. Put yourself in his shoes and you'd be a little ticked too. Obviously it wasn't right for him to publicly say something, but I can see where he was coming from.

Yeah, I don't think he has a history of running his mouth. Given that this is an isolated outburst, I'd welcome him on my team (not necessary this year) but guys like Randy Moss I'm all set with.

Shaun fumbled vs. the Jets on the goal line and he's been a fumbler his whole career...that should have entered his head when Holmgren called for the sweep...the playoffs were on the line, I have no beef with Holmgren calling for the sneak, and Alexander should have realized that before he ran his mouth. At least he gave a sincere apology the day after.

I think that was what he was implying.
