The Phillies are close to cutting bait with their former top prospect
As darkness fell over Orange County last night, they were waiting to see if the Milwaukee Brewers traded centerfielder Scott Podsednik, possibly to the White Sox for a power-hitting third baseman or corner outfielder. The Dodgers and Giants had also been mentioned as teams with possible interest in Podsednik.
If that happened, sources said, the Brewers were prepared to take centerfielder Marlon Byrd in exchange for hard-throwing righthander Jeff Bennett

Phillies also seemed to have something cooking in a potential trade, possibly with San Francisco, that would end Marlon Byrd's up-and-down tenure with the Phillies.
With Kenny Lofton's arrival and Jason Michaels likely to share some time with Lofton in center field, Byrd seems to be expendable as the Phillies look for bullpen help and bench players. The Giants had been close to a deal with Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder Scott Podsednik, but that deal fell through.
