    [QUOTE=hellonewman]Choo-Choo Coleman

    Choo-Choo Coleman is my favorite because when asked by Ralph Kiner on Kiner's Corner how he got the nickname Choo-Choo, his reply was "I really don't know Ralph."

    My favorite Choo-Choo story is when an announcer (Kiner or Lindsay Nelson)
    asked him "what's your wife's name, and what's she like?" Coleman replied
    "Her name is Mrs. Coleman and she likes me."

    Let's not confuse "nicknames" for "known as the".

    When Mickey Mantle walked into a room people didn't greet him with,
    "Hello Commerce Comet!"

    Thurman Munson was commonly called "tugboat" by his closest friends on the team.

    Some of my favorite nicks: "Spook" Jacobs, "Whammy" Douglas, "Ice" Williams

    I have to ask - do you know how he got that nickname? I have an image of a guy carrying around his own personal fly swatter.

    2 more nicknames I've always enjoyed....

    El Gaupo - Rich Garces

    The Human Rain Delay - Mike Hargrove

    The most unusual nickname I've ever seen belonged to a player in the 19th century named Charlie Pabor who was nicknamed "The Old Woman In The Red Cap." Try hanging that one on a player today.

    Great thread.
