    Being a Yankee Fan/Pats Fan

I know there's a bunch of you out there, and I'm one of them. I dunno about you guys, but I get a lot of ................ for being a Pats fan and a Yankee fan, even though I was born into a family of diehard Yankee fans who didn't really care about football, and raised in the heart of New England. I think it's mostly because they both win so much.

    What are your stories?

Ever go into the bleachers at Yankee Stadium in a Pats jersey? I've seen many an entertaining moment featuring people who choose to do this.

I think it's funny when people stereo type fans. For example, if someone wears a Patriots jersey, a lot of people assume he/she is a Sox fan. People do that a lot of the time with many teams.

Case in point, when the D'Backs played the Yankees this year my friend and I were wearing Yankees jerseys (of course ) and AZ fans were yelling out, "Jets Suck!" and "Knicks Suck!". It was comical because these morons actually thought it would make us mad, but it only made us laugh beacuse we really dont like those teams.

It's even more funny that they had to bash other NY sports in the middle of a baseball game, because their baseball team sucks so badly.

But wait, the Jets suck? The Cardinals have had exactly ONE winning season since 1985. I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

It's friggin hilarious. They've only been to the playoffs once in their entire existence in AZ. People wear those "Arizona Cardinals 1998 Playoffs" shirts to the games like they are Super Bowl Champs shirts.

Why such dislike for the Patriots? Just curious.

I'd ask the same question. I'm also a NYY/Pats fan, and the primary reason is that the Pats win with professionalism. That is, they don't gloat, showboat, glamorize nonsense, or trash talk in any form. They just take care of business, and the onfield results are tremendously impressive.

I think some people will give you a lot of crap because they assume you are a bandwagon fan because both squads have been highly succesful recently. People view most Yankee fans as front runners so a lot of people are going to go out of their mind when they see somebody wearing Yankee gear in October and Pats gear in January.

Personally, I am a Giants fan but I have a lot of respect for what Bill B., Scott Piolo and co. have done with that organization.

I get ................ for being a NYC fan here in Arizona. They hate differences out here. I don't know why. Everyone else out here, for the most part is from somewhere else.

    You are among friends, brother.

Webster Mulligan and myself are Yanks/Pats fans that I'm aware of. Look at past threads around last year's SB. If you haven't discovered it already, the vitriol coming from Jets fans has been interesting...

    Tom Brady

    - He sucks! He's a system QB who can't lick Chad Pennington's boots.

    Patriots

    - Pats always get the breaks! They're the luckiest team on earth. I hate them!!!

I've been a Pats fan for more than 30 years, and they could get every break in the universe for the next 10 seasons and it STILL wouldn't make up for all the crap they (and we) had to endure for so long.

Some people have absolutely no sense of history.

I still can't believe this... Two SBCs in THREE YEARS??? The New England Patriots???!!!

I've been following this team since I was 10 and I still have to pinch myself.

This just confirms my theory that it's all about the uniforms. They've been unstoppable since they switched to navy blue.

You and RIYankee are so RIGHT about this!

I love talking to "real" Patriots fans who have been there since the bad, bad days. I started following them around 1970-1972. They were usually awful, but they were "my" team. It almost seems like a dream how great they are now. I was talking to a young Dolphins fan who hated the Patriots, and he admitted part of it was jealousy. I told him how it used to be, because I remember all those years the Dolphins used the Patsies as their own personal whipping boys. I told him hang in there with your team, what goes around comes around.
I'm enjoying this tremendous run they are on. My son is 11 and all he knows of the Patriots is they are the best, it would never occur to him they could stink. He was shocked when they lost to Pittsburgh. I told him enjoy it now, because this is not a normal state of affairs for a pro football team to be like this. We really are witnessing a historic run right now, maybe not a "dynasty", but pretty impressive anyway. The fact that it's the Patriots-WOW!

I grew up a Giants fan and remain one. However, since I moved to Boston in '97, I have become a Pats fan. I don't perceive a conflict between rooting for the Giants and the Pats, whereas sox/yankees is another thing altogether. No one has ever given me grief about being a pats fan, in fact, it is one of the few ways I feel connected to New England culture.

In 1990 on a Sunday morning my friends called me and asked me if I wanted to go to a Patriots game in old Foxboro Stadium. It was almost noon. I said, "sure, when did you get the tickets?" They said, "We didn't. We'll pick them up at the stadium." By the time they came to my house in Cranston, RI, it was a 40 minute drive to the Stadium, we missed opening kickoff and the scalpers were desparate. One of them offered us 3 tickets for $20 apiece. I said those don't look like great seats. He said, "It dosen't matter. You can pick whatever section you want. It's not like it's crowded in there." We took them (for $10 each) and had an entire section to ourselves. We were streched out over two rows of aluminum benches. It was a relaxing, care-free day.

BTW the Pats lost to Seattle 33-20 with the forgettable Marc Wilson as their QB. They would finish 1-15 that season. Shortly before his firing, head coach Rod Rust said he was "proud of those guys."

The Pats won their second SB in three years and now they are 10-1. I'm milking it for what it's worth!!!

    GO PATS!!!

Being a Pats fan often making taking your victories where you could. Randy Vataha catching a TD pass from Jim Plunkett was a chance for a wild celebration. (I loved Randy Vataha)

I love the Pats, because, like the Sox, it's all about TEAM. I love seeing them rooting for each other. I love Tom Brady tackling his receivers after they make touchdowns. I loved the look on Tedy Bruschi's face after Jarvis Green scored a TD against the Ravens, and I LOVED his leap on the sidelines after Larry Izzo's last-game interception last year. I loved Rodney Harrison streaking downfield to block on Richard Seymour's runback for a TD a few weeks back (Harrison made Seymour look like he was running in place - amazing). I love Matt Light coming into the locker room after the AFC playoff game against Tennessee last year and saying "That was enjoyable."

OK, I'm splooging. I'll stop now.

Well I certainly haven't been a Pats fan since the 70s (I guess not being alive had a lot to do with that), but I have been since I moved to Massachusetts (1993), and I at least got a hint of their losing ways of the past with Drew at the helm. But they weren't bad for long, just for a little dry spell after they lost the Super Bowl in 1996. But when Brady took over in 2001, I'll admit it...I was firmly convinced that Bledsoe was the better quarterback and that the Pats would never continue to win if they kept starting Brady over him.

    Oops!

Yet, whenever they hear us root for our team they say, 'Why dont you go back there.'

Arizona fans are some of the most rediculous fans I've met.

Growing up a big SU fan, I have liked the Patriot's ever since Dick MacPherson took over as head coach back in the late 1980's.
