I'm having a difficult time- Someone please help

It's really a hard time to be a Yankees fan right now coming off that ALCS... everytime a Red Sox fan makes fun of Arod or fun of Giambi/Brown's contract, I seriously don't know how to respond. In the past I would respond by making fun of the Red Sox lack of pitching- especially in their bullpen, or their dumb manager, or unclassy players, or simply by saying "1918"... now it's so hard because I don't dislike any Red Sox player except Pedro and Schilling, it's hard to root against them. They have such likeable players.. and I don't think they have any players who you could label as "busts".

So when Red Sox fans start making fun of the Yankees, calling us chokers etc.... how are we supposed to respond? Are we supposed to say they're right?

Well, the thing is that you can't take it personally. I know that's hard to do but the Yankees failures aren't a reflection on you or any other fan no matter how someone else might try to make it seem that way.

We're one of them at the moment. Have been for 4 years now, and the fact that the Yanks blew a huge lead and the Sox won does nothing to change that.

Hopefully you weren't one of those Yankee fans who took excessively more delight in seeing the Yanks beat Boston than winning the WS.

There's one guy (a Yankee fan) here in Chicago that I hang around with that used to give me crap all the time. It was almost unbearable after the '03 ALCS. I wouldn't say he was a-hole about it, and 95% of the time it was good-natured. The other 5% he'd walk right up to the line and stick his big toe on the other side, so to speak. He's the only Yankee fan I've been giving it to in good measure. And, to his credit, he takes it in good humor.

I know other Yankee fans that always gave me the 'ole "chin-up" or "hey, the Sox are a great team" kind of comments. I have not, and will not, say anything negative to them.

That's exactly it. During game 3 f the ALCS a bunch of us were out and a friend of a friend was there, had never met the guy before in my life but he would not get out of my face about how much the Sox sucked and how they were getting their asses handed to them. I had no real comeback because, well, they were. My biggest beef was that i had never met him before. I can take crap from my friends but to have someone I've never met be so rude really pissed me off.

Develop a split personality, the way many fans of other teams have done vis a vis the Yankees and Yankee players.

As I've stated elsewhere, I respect a lot of NYY players and staff (Jeter, Cairo, Matsui, Torre, Rivera, Gordon, Sturtze come to mind, and I'm sure there are more). I suspect I'd like them as people if I ever got to meet them. But as a Sox fan I cheerfully HATE them when they are on the field. It seems to work........

I understand this point, but I also think that if someone is screaming obsecenities at you and yelling "C'mon" (or whatever he was yelling at Tek), do you really think you'd have the sense to pause for a moment to think about the fact that you have your equipment on? Maybe Varitek should of held up his hand and said, "Excuse me Alex, could you please hold that thought for a minute while I shed my gear." That would have been the right thing to do, but I think it's unreasonable to think he was aware of it and silly to base your dislike of him on that one incident. That's how I see it anyway.

Boston's little hero Curt Schilling has called Alex Rodriguez's play in Game 6 'bush-league'. Thats the exact reason why many fans don't like Schilling and Varitek: The play was bush-league and Schilling refuses to put 2+2 and look at his own team first.

how was this a "rational arguement"? Sox fans have been of the position that A-Rod instigated the fight, which I tend to agree with. He dropped 4 or 5 F bombs, followed by a couple "c'mon"s ...Varitek had plenty of time to drop the glove and remove the mask, especially considering he threw the first punch.
