I had it 115-114 for Cotto.
Mosley gave a really good account of himself, though. And that referee should never officiate a big fight ever again. There was no lull in the action nor were the fighters even near the wet spot. Such a stupid move.

Hatton down at seven? I could have him as low as three but anything lower is crazy talk! He is unbeaten, has been a long-term World Champion, has beaten some top notch performers at the top of their game. I'm not Hatton fan (despite being English - his decision to leave Frank Warren's stable when Warren moved to free TV peed me right off) but surely he's in the top 10 p4p fighters so he have him 7th in this division isn't right?Originally Posted by Rui

What has he done at welterweight? Besides win a razor-thin decision to Luis Collazo, who isn't even in my Top 10. And after that, instead of staying in the division, he moves back down again.Originally Posted by Blokee

Beat me to it. Hatton is incredibly overrated IMO. The only time he has fought at 147 he lost (although he was somehow given the decision).Originally Posted by Rui

Who would he knock off on that list? Cotto would murder him. Mosley would murder him. Margarito would beat him. Cintron would knock him out. I could see him giving Paul Williams trouble, but Williams is definitely the more talented fighter and given his victory over Margarito, he has done a lot more than Hatton.Originally Posted by Blokee

Junior welterweight isn't welterweight. Hatton had his welterweight debut in front of millions of Americans to show what he was made of and he was unimpressive to say the least.Originally Posted by Blokee

Not to mention that Joan Guzman and Edwin Valero are in negotations to fight and will be the logical choice to fight the winner of Pacquiao/Marquez.
In my mind, the next Manny Pacquiao fight with Juan Manuel Marquez is going to be one of the toughest tests for the Pacman.Originally Posted by Rui

Pacquiao does have the edge in hand speed and power, but for tactical areas, I give the edge to JMM.
As for the negotations for a fight between Joan Guzman and Edwin Valero, I'm interested to see that too.
Guzman is a heavy hitter who has an undefeated record, but can he make weight?
Valero is also another great boxer and if Pacquiao defeats Marquez and Valero defeats Guzman, this is a matchup that features to lefties.

Guzman used to be a heavy hitter at 122. Now he's more of a slick boxer-puncher.
I'm really curious about Marquez/Pacquiao II. It's been the first live opponent for Manny in a while.

Thought the Cotto-Mosley fight was very good. Not a classic but a very good PPV event. What impressed me most about Cotto was his counter-punching ability, he landed frequently and decisively even when Mosley pressed the action in the latter half of the fight. I'm thinking Cotto - PBF will be the next huge event...sorry England but I don't think the hitman will land 10 punches. I'm rooting like hell for the kid though. PBF just doesn't get hit. But what a spectacle it would be if the hitman can pull it off....Manchester would be shaking!

If Ricky Hatton wants to beat Floyd Mayweather tonight, Hatton needs to close down the space in order to neutralize Floyd's reach advantage and maul him inside.
However, if Hatton is reckless with his brawling style and Floyd's tactical prowless takes advantage, Floyd easily outboxes Hatton.

Did anyone watch the preview on HBO about this fight? I dont follow boxing that closely...but I've seen a few of Floyd's fights before and know how good he is.
I was surprised to hear him talk about how many physical problems he deals with these days. He talked about how bad his hands, shoulders, knees and back are...and how he is almost always in pain and how his body is betraying him. You always think that a guy who is as good as he is, must be in tip-top physical shape...yet he definetly doesnt seem to be. The way he was talking it seems that he is thinking about retirement in the not too distant future.

Cotto, yes. But Mayweather doesn't need to fight Margarito until Margarito has actually earned his shot. Mayweather, assuming he beats Hatton, is at a point in his career where he'll only fight in megafights. That basically means either a rematch with De La Hoya or Cotto for 2008.Originally Posted by JeffWeaverFan

He's a bruiser, and i dont see Mayweather knocking him out.
I also love his somewhat quiet confidence.
Mayweather is a superior defensive fighter that logically should win, but I just get the feeling Hatton might do it.
Hatton.
I used Margarito because PBF has ducked him before. DLH would be a mega fight but wouldn't prove anything in his legacy. He's already beaten him and would beat him again. A win over Cotto (and then Paul Williams if he beats Cotto and Williams beats Cintron and someone else in between then) would cement his legacy.Originally Posted by Rui

Floyd Mayweather Jr. landed more shots than Ricky Hatton and was very dominant in the fight. Hatton won 2 rounds in my scorecards, Rounds 1 and 3, but PBF took him apart and wore out the Briton. Hatton even had a point deducted for a rabbit punch in the 6th.
Even when Hatton was coming forward, he didn't land any significant shots and Mayweather's counter punching took Hatton's aggressiveness away.
A lot of clinching and holding tonight as usual from Hatton.
Sweet left hook from PBF in the 10th, Sugar Ray Robinson style.

Here's the problem with PBF. He never has fought a guy that would be a real challenge. If you want to impress, fight Cotto. Fight Paul Williams. Hell, even fight Margarito.
The guy is a talented fighter, no doubt about that. But to be the best, then fight the best, and he is not doing that.

The trouble with Hatton is he only knows one way to fight. Floyd is a boxer who can also punch and take a punch in the mold of a Sugar Ray Robinson or Leonard. You need intelligence as well as great skills, and Floyd has both. A Cotto match would be great, and I think eventually it will happen, and I'd give Floyd a slight edge there.
On a side note, I think Calzaghe will beat Hopkins.

Dem ol' grimy Jets...

I disagree. If PBF wants to cement his legacy, he's gotta fight some more. If PBF does indeed retire, his recent wins over the likes of Gatti, Baldomir, and Hatton (who if his name weren't Hatton very possibly could have lost to Luis Collazo) are not impressive enough to say that he's one of the best ever or that he's got nothing left to prove.Originally Posted by The Straw
IMO the best, in-his-prime fighter PBF has beaten (which depends on who you ask) was Jose Luis Castillo, and that was 5 years ago. Since then it's been an underwhelming line of opponents, maybe except for DLH who is pretty much nearing the end of the line anyway. Floyd is a current great but if he wants to be a historical great he's gotta keep going. I fully expect that he will.

That's one of the luxuries of being the champ. You fight this #1 and then theres another #1 it never ends until you're too old and tired and you get beat. Floyd is at the end of his rope and Cotto would probably hurt him at this stage. Cotto of Today against Mayweather of 5 years ago,now that would be interesting. He should retire on top and no one that knows Boxing would begrudge him that.
