Did anyone watched 'Vicious' Victor Ortiz vs. Marcos Rene Maidana on HBO Boxing After Dark last weekend?
I did and Ortiz got exposed.
Both Ortiz and Maidana scored knockdowns in the 1st Round, then Ortiz scored two knockdowns in Round 3. But credit Maidana for not quitting. He kept coming forward and brawled Ortiz. One of Maidana's punches created a cut on Ortiz's right eye in Round 5. Round 6, Ortiz was dropped and he even shaked his hand gesturing I'm done. Finally, the referee brought in the doctor to examine the cut and stopped the fight via cut from a blow.
What a fight though. I had a 10-10 round in Round 1, Ortiz won Rounds 2 and 3, but Maidana won Rounds 4,5, and 6.
And the thing that I don't understand is why is he laughing? He laughed many times in the interview. Watching himself getting tagged and laughing about it a few minutes after the fight... he even admitted that he should not be hurt like that. jeez..when you put on a gloves your intention is to hurt your opponent.

Arturo Gatti was one of the most exciting fighters in our generation.
A two-time division world champion, 'Thunder', the Montreal, PQ native, had a legendary trilogy with Micky Ward. Ward also became his trainer.
Gatti is a legend at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ and one of his legendary wins was a knockout win over Leonard Dorin.
However, he also lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Carlos Baldomir, and Alfonso Gomez.
Still, those blemishes doesn't take away Gatti's career.

As Miguel Cotto has been apparently adamant in fighting Manny Pacquiao at 145lbs, the Filipino boxing sensation is now looking at the possibility of accepting the challenge of Shane Mosley. Pacquiao’s lawyer Jeng Gacal said the Filipino boxer is now considering the option of battling Mosley at a catchweight of 143. In one of his few guest appearances with the daily morning “Sports Chat” Mosley once said he is willing to meet Pacquiao halfway, possibly at a catch weight of 144. Cotto meanwhile remains steadfast with his preferred weight. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach previously told “Sports Chat” that he prefers to have Cotto as Pacquiao’s next opponent and that a bout with Mosley may only be possible if the American agrees to move down to 143. After reading Shane Mosley challenging Manny Pacquiao to 140, I asked myself this question, "Is Sugar Shane nuts"?
In my mind, it all depends on how Shane makes it to 140 without being dried up.
Oscar De La Hoya was dehydrated in his fight with the Pacman and didn't pick up any weight.
Pacquiao exposed it with an 8 round to 0 whitewash en route to a KO victory.
Still if it's Shane Mosley vs. Manny, it will be a very tough fight for the Filipino slugger.
Why? Mosley and Nazim Richardson had the perfect gameplan against Antonio Margarito, who is known to have high volumes of punches in every round.
How? Mosley closed the distance and connected on body shots against the Tijuana Tornado and his jab was great in that fight that set up Mosley's own punches and bunches. Also, controlling the pace of the fight and taking the crowd out of the contest worked to Mosley's favor.
Will the Pacman have a shot against Sugar Shane if they both sign the fight? Well, his hand speed can give Mosley problems in the center of the ring, but if Shane can get Pacquiao against the ropes, Pacquiao better get out of them very quickly. Also, Pacquiao's power at 140 will be tested again because Mosley has been knocked down only once in his career and never has been knocked out.
So, I'll continue the Pacquiao watch for his next opponent. It's either Mosley or Miguel Cotto for the Pacman.

After watching Amir Khan defeating Marco Antonio Barrera via technical decision, Frank Warren vowed to land Khan a title fight before the end of the year.
Khan got his first title shot: a fight for the WBA World Light Welterweight against Andreas Kotelnik.

A long distance call from Bob Arum over the weekend proved crucial in compelling Manny Pacquiao to finally make a decision to face Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, a senior adviser of the Filipino fighter told fightnews and Manila Bulletin on Monday night. Mike Koncz said Pacquiao and Cotto will square off at 145 lbs on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and “an adjustment” was made in the negotiations in Pacquiao’s favor. Koncz, however, politely declined to divulge details. Pacquiao had insisted that Cotto go down to 143 lbs for the fight to take place but Arum may have said something that was music to Pacquiao’s ears. Pacquiao lawyer Franklin Gacal said recently that “a premium” would likely persuade Pacquiao to accommodate Cotto’s request that the scheduled 12-rounder be fought at 145 lbs. It had originally been planned that Pacquiao, Koncz and Gacal would fly to Los Angeles but Koncz said there would be no more need for such a tiring and costly trip since Pacquiao has already agreed. I remember Forrest beating Sugar Shane Mosley twice in 2002.
He was one of the good guys in boxing doing a lot of charity work including the Destiny’s Child group home.

FightNews has learned that the heavyweight showdown between WBC champion Vitali Klitschko and “The Nightmare” Christobal Arreola is a done deal for September 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. According to sources close to the situation a press conference will be held next week to officially announce the bout. Klitschko, who won the WBC belt last year after a four-year absence from the ring, will make the second defense of his title. He last fought in March, stopping Juan Carlos Gomez in nine rounds. Top trainer Roger Mayweather, uncle of Floyd Mayweather, has been arrested and charged with coercion with force and battery strangulation. Las Vegas Metro Police arrested Mayweather on Sunday after the top trainer and former fighter attacked one of his former boxers, Melissa St. Vil.
St. Vil had just gotten back to Las Vegas from Las Cruces, N.M., where she had scored an upset win over local favorite Jennifer Han. St. Vil had been training under Mayweather until about three months ago, when she changed camps. According to the Metro police report, she terminated her agreement with Roger because he had been harassing and following her around.
On Sunday, he showed up at her apartment. St. Vil says Mayweather hit her several times in the ribs, then tried to strangle her. When police arrived, she was coughing and spitting blood. Mayweather was arrested and is facing serious charges.

Cotto, I believe, has started training already for around 4 weeks or so while Pacman has yet to start.

Any thoughts on the fight this weekend? I see Mayweather winning a controversial decision. PBF will probably knock down Marquez in the early rounds and do little the rest of the fight but still ride the knockdown to a victory which would set up a mega showdown with Pac if he beats Cotto like most expect him to. I hope to hell Marquez wins though.

Floyd is not knocking JMM down at all. Floyd would have to actually throw a punch that can hurt him to do that, and he doesn't have the power to do that. Besides Floyd spends the first half of his fights covering up.
Marquez will hurt Floyd and he will put Floyd down. 10th round TKO for JMM.

I say it will be a draw. Just kidding.
Pretty Boy Floyd has the advantage in speed, experience, versatility and is undefeated.
However, Dinamita has the edge in tenacity, power, no corner distractions and badly wants a third fight with Manny Pacquiao with a win (also, if the Pacman defeats Miguel Cotto).
There are two main questions coming in to this fight.
1. Will time away from the ring affect Floyd?
2. Will Marquez take Floyd's punches as he fights at Welterweight for the first time?
I think this will be a great fight. JMM wants to exchange close with Floyd while Floyd wants to use his versatile tools to keep JMM off balance and keep distance.
In the end though, I think it will go to a decision and it will be a razor sharp one...for Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez as he will score a late knockdown to get it.

I give Arreola very, very, very little chance at all against Klitschko.
Klitschko has the chin to take Arreola's best punches and Klitschko has the experience and defense to know how to completely dissect someone like Arreola. Arreola could increase his seemingly nonexistent chances of winning by coming in around 230 lbs, but he's going to come in weighing over 250 lbs because he's a fat mess.
Klitschko TKO9, I'll say.

I give credit to Dinamita for continuing to come forward and being a gamer, but it was too much skill and ring savvy from Pretty Boy Floyd.
Floyd's jab was too much for Marquez. Also, PBF dominated ring generalship and can't even miss with his shots.
Marquez wasn't afraid to throw, but his shots didn't faze Mayweather. JMM didn't go down, but took a lot of shots.
Now that PBF got his first win out of the way, who's next for the four-time World title holder in four different weight classes? It could be the winner of Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto.
If Pacquiao wins, it could be the fight a lot of boxing fans want to see. If Cotto wins, PBF finally has a quality challenger at 147.
