The Jays' general manager, J. P. Ricciardi, has called the stadium obsolete as a baseball venue. That's the sanitized term. And according to a focus group study prepared for the Blue Jays this year, dissatisfaction with the SkyDome was most pronounced among those who had not been to the stadium, so perception really is a measurable problem for a stadium that is one of the oldest in the major leagues.

I went to a game there and had a great time. All they would need to do is get the ''new'' turf. I think the Blue Jays team is more obsolete then the SkyDome.

I agree. Skydome needs Fieldturf. I like Fieldturf over astroturf. Maybe, the Yankees should get Fieldturf, but I doubt it.

I just asked a Skydome visitor tonight what he thought of the place. He thought it was a beautiful facility.

I used to live in Toronto, so I would sometimes root for the Jays. First of all, they changed their logo and unis. I thought this was a bad idea, since the previous logo incorporated their Canadian roots. The new unis are just ugly to look at. Now, they are saying the Skydome is 'obsolete.' I find that utterly ridiculous. I been there many times, and it is an excellent facility. I know many people who live in GTA enjoy the presence of the Skydome. I am thinking that Riccardi must have mixed up the Skydome with Olympic Stadium in Montreal. Now that's an obsolete venue for baseball. The Big "Oh."

One team wants a new park, they all want new ballparks. Next thing you know, Arizona will be saying the BOB needs to be redone.

Whatever. Give them a new park. It's the only instance in which the taxpayers' dollars to build it wouldn't fall on our shoulders.

After that whole "pigeon poop on the Yankee cap" thing from last season, I'm not sure I can be sympathetic to Ricciardi. Perhaps I should poop on a Blue Jays cap or uni.

BTW, they should try picking their construction crews more carefully now.

Yes. The original cost was $2.5 million, the renovations cost an additional $48 million.

Hey JP here's a novel idea - build a winning franchise and the fans will come. This is the same facility that drew sellouts when they won the WS in 92 and 93. It's not the facility that's hurting attendance it's the product on the field.

J.P. Ricciardi is a joke. I've been to a few games in the Skydome, and it's a great place to play. The only improvement the Skydome could use is the installation of Field Turf. Instead of worrying about the stadium, Ricciardi needs to work on rebuilding the Blue Jays so their fans can have a reason to show up for games again.
