Thread: Pedro's post game commentary.... WOW

  1. #1

    Pedro's post game commentary.... WOW

Pedro blamed himself for the loss tonight, and he was taking it rough. He said he wanted to bury himself on the mound.

When asked would he like to face the Yankees in the post season, his reply

"I wish they would just ................in disappear"

They didn't bleep the f bomb

    Then, comments on the game

"I have to tip my cap and call them daddy."

Obviously, Pedro is one of the greatest pitchers of our generation, but over the past few years, from his comments, he seems a bit emotionally unstable. I wonder if that could affect him this offseason

Doubtful, but the fact that he has quietly pitched a lot of innings this season, and is on pace to pitch his most innings since 1998, may not be doing great things for his stuff right now.

Wow, pretty much says it all. I was watching NESN too and was shocked to hear him say that! He was a beaten man.

Just to elaborate on the daddy's comment........didn't he follow that up with, "The Yankees are my Daddy"? That has to be my new sig.

I found it a bit sad though in a way, cause they had A-Rod speak, and he had nothing but good things to say about Pedro, and kept repeating that Pedro was a hell of a competitor. He had to say it 4 times minimum. Then Pedro turns around and says he wishes we would just disappear. Schilling would want another piece of us if that was him. It doesn't make Pedro look good at all.

I always new Pedro was smarter than he looked.

I was just as blown away by Pedro's comments. NESN showed ARod just a few minutes before in the locker room, giving the blandest possible answers to reporters' questions ("good game", "take it one game at a time" ), then cut to Pedro...

"I just have to tip my hat to the Yankees and call them my daddy"

    Wow.

In fairness to Pedro, he just looked incredibly frustrated, he clearly didn't want to be answering questions and I think he was just spewing stuff, almost like saying..."screw you reporters, you ask me your leading questions, I'll tell you exactly what I'm thinking". I was actually squirming watching him speak, he was so frank. The look on his face, his body language, it was like "damn, I know I'm one of the best pitchers in the game, my teammates give me runs today, and I *STILL* can't beat the f***g Yankees".

WOW, surprising. Still though, he isn't emotionally unstabl or anything, just a frustrated pitcher. You gotta realize the guy has had a level of excellence against every other team in the bigs. So, for him to not be able to deliver against the same team must eat at him like no other. But Pedro makes the weirdest comments, so take them with a grain of salt. In a week he'll be the same confident to a fault, arrogant Pedro as always.

I saw the NESN live interview too. He did mention the Yankees are "his Daddy" twice. He said after Matsui's homer - "I wish I could have buried myself out on the mound". And still ... Francona leaves him in.... amazing. A lot of Grady Game 7 comparisons on the NESN post game show...

I couldn't believe his comment regarding - Do you hope to face them and get revenge in the playoffs. "No, I wish they would f***ing disappear"
Then he apologizes for using the f word and repeats the comment AGAIN - "I wish they would just disappear"....
He said he can beat everyone else, but he can't beat the Yankees.

Amazing stuff. The Yankees are in his head big time.

Sounds to me like Pedro finally realizes that he'll have to turn in his cap with a B for a cap with an if he ever wants a ring.

Maybe he's doing this to make everyone THINK the Yankees are in his head and then when he faces the Yankees in the ALCS he'll throw a perfect game.

I found it kinda weird tonight watching NESN, everything seemed to implode on the post game show. I have never seen a commentator, Eckersly, make such harsh comments about the manager.

BTW, they kept saying this stat which bugged me, maybe someone can help
"The yankees have won the season series the past 2 years"
"The last time the Red Sox won the series against the Yanks was 1999"

What about those 3 years in between

That's amazing. I knew I should have stayed with the NESN feed.

Seriously, I've got to give Pedro credit for being honest about his feelings & not spewing the usual garbage of "we're a great team & we played them tough but it just wasn't good enough tonight, yadda yadda yadda" crap.

Any more of this and I'm going to start actually *liking* Pedro.

(BTW, I saw Francona's NESN press conference and I swear it looked like he was about to cry. The barrage of "why didn't you pull Pedro in the 8th" questions was relentless.)

    EDIT: bad, embarassing grammar

Eckersley can be brutal. Earlier in the year he was especially tough on Derek Lowe's mental fragility.

re: the season series...They split them? I'm not sure...

    EDIT:eerrr aren't there 19 games...so a split's impossible, right? never mind that...

I know, Eckersly lays down the law

I don't think they could split the series, they play each other an ODD amount of times

2001, after a game in which Boston lost.

"I wish I'd never see them again. I wish they'd disappear from the league. Then we'd be winners."

I think someone has [had?] that on his/her sig over here.

This result is better than Schilling crying

How many "Pedro Who are your Daddies?" signs will we see if the Sox/Yanks play each other in the playoffs?

Wait there was a guy walking around at the Stadium on Sunday with a "Pedro, I am your father" sign and he was dressed like Darth Vader.

I thought the post game show on NESN was kind of weak too (except for the interviews). Eck was really harsh on Francona, unfairly IMHO, I tthought the Yanks would have a much harder time against Pedro than embree or timlin. The best thing about the interview was how much the Yanks seem to be in Pedro's head.

The last time the Sox were this distraught, they started a fight. If I'm Matsui, I'd watch my back.
