Did I dream this, or is Seabol now the record holder for lowest draft pick to ever make the majors?
I think it will never be broken - - they don't draft that many rounds any more.........
anyone else remember hearing something like that?

Seabol is the guy we wrote about earlier this month...taken by the Yankees in the 88th round of the 1996 draft out of West Virginia University. He was DH-ing. I think I read in Baseball America a couple of months ago that if he makes the majors, he will be the lowest draft pick ever to make it to the bigs (the draft is now capped off at 50 rounds). I kind of liked his composure at the plate, he might actually have a shot to make it, although if it were to be with the Yankees, the scenario would probably somehow have to involve Henson opting for the NFL instead of Yankee Stadium."

I hope he gets in the game Friday night because he'll be heading out of town when DJ comes back Saturday I believe. I'd like to see him get an at bat or two. If not now he may have to wait a while.

According to BBA, he would be "the one" - - he was the 1,719 player taken out of 1,740 taken overall in '96- - which would be a record low (draft pick to make it as a big leaguer).
Others - - Ya know, he's on the team for H-Rod, not Jeter, so, maybe Jimenez goes down for Jeter and SS gets a few more days to get a big league AB..............

Went 0-1 at 3rd replacing Morales against the Soxs March 18.
I yelled "Hey there's Scott Seabol", to the many fans wanting autographs.
Nobody even batted an eye. And no he didn't sign. Kinda funny. Scott who?
Well, now he's at the big club for awhile. I hope he gets some kind of action,cause he might not be there long. He's a capable player, that just might blossom under the right conditions. Morales and Drew make those conditions worse. But stranger things have happened. Such as is, his current run to the big Yankee club!
He can play a few positions - 3B, OF, 1B -- so, if he has a little pop - - he should be able to stick somewhere.........maybe in the NL, where being able to move around helps more - - like a John Mabry type........
Come to think of it, He practiced in the out-field that Mar. day most of the pre-game.
Morales made an error at 3rd around the 7th inning and was replaced by Scott.
It may have been Morales 1st start in a Yankee uniform, they just signed him.
I think I read somewhere that Mike Piazza was the lowest number ever taken in the draft. He was almost the last one picked. Buzzy Bavisa drafted Mike as a favor to Mike's dad, a longtime friend of Bavasi.
No one ever thought he would make it.
