With whom do your college allegiances lie?

With the start of the college football season upon us, I just thought I would find out who all of you cheer for throughout the season? I believe it is obvious from my location which team holds that special place in my heart. Also, I am not one of those people that goes to college and then becomes a fan of that team - hell no! I am Sooner born and Sooner bred, and when I die I will be Sooner dead!

Perhaps placing this in Other Sports will provoke the Mods to let us know where to discuss College Football, because we will discuss college football.

    Even with Sooner fans.

Well, I go to Vanderbilt but I'm also a St. Johns fan when it comes to Basketball.

Yeah, I would love to have a college football sub forum. If the NFL gets one, why can't we??

Well I'm half-Irish and went to Holy Cross, so follow my logic.... Their days of 1-AA undefeated national championships are waaaaaaay over now. Ugh. Big time football? I can't root for BC That's like you guys being Mets fans. So I've always cheered for Notre Dame - and that's working out REAL well these days. I also like USC since Pete Carroll took over. He's a good guy, plus I likey their cheerleaders!

Uhh, I don't know what it costs in additional bandwidth, or even if there is sufficient interest, but we will discuss college football.

Fairly, I think that there is alot more Pro interest on the Eastern Seaboard (Because their college ball is so lame ), but, in a historically strange alliance between a Buffalo and a Sooner, I say to the Mods, find us a home on "Other Sports", lump us in with the NFL, or give us a subforum.

Risking a small minded reply, tell us where to go.

University of Miami all the way!! I grew up in south Florida and went to their games long before they turned into a legitimate power. I remember when they signed Jim Kelly as a linebacker, not QB, and watching Notre Dame trounce them every year. It was sooooooooooo sweet being at Faust's last game when UM ran up the score against them.

I went to a community college in Gainesville, FL, and didn't have any negative attitude against the Gators until I got there. Man, they got some of the most arrogant fans around, especially when they were mediocre at best in the '80s. Now I'm the biggest Gator Hater around.

You can't root for BC because you went to Holy Cross. Yet somehow you can be a fan of both the Irish AND the Trojans??? That's comparable to being a fan of the Yankees and the Sox, OSU and Michigan, the Steelers and the Browns.

Actually, FYI, I've found out it's possible to root for OSU and Michigan. One too many people here actually rooted for the Buckeyes when they were in the Fiesta Bowl against Miami, claiming it's better to root for them than for Miami because OSU is in the same conference as us. Hence why, really, OSU hates our guts more than some here hates them (not including me, I hate OSU beyond belief). *Shakes her head in disbelief*

I've rooted for Miami, my mom's alma mater, ever since I first discovered football during my teenage yrs. I'll always root for my own alma mater, Columbia in every sport, but they're not usually in national title contention (except for fencing) Now I'm at the the Univ. of Chicago for grad school another athletic powerhouse

Another Cane fan here in Chicago?!?!??!

Wasn't UC ranked dead last as far as partying schools a few years ago by some magazine? It said the biggest hangout spot on a Saturday night was the local Starbucks.

Believe it or not, UC was a major college football powerhouse 70 plus years ago and had a Heisman winner IIRC.

I would say East Tennessee State University but we no longer have a team, thanks to every one in the state of Tennessee being UT fans. So I guess i will return to supporting the Irish.

Hey, Columbia's got a kick-butt fencing team! Too bad the football team is at the other end of the butt-kicking in their sport....

My husband's got me rooting for Penn, too. We got to see the Penn varsity basketball team stomp all over USC's varsity team. It was very amusing.

THE Ohio State University. It's where I'm attending grad school now, plus I've lived in the state the last 7 years. I grew up in Connecticut, but since we didn't really have a football team to root for (UConn was still I-AA), I "picked up" the Buckeyes as my college football team. I still root for UConn in basketball, though.

I've got my tickets to the four conference home games this year (vs. Wisconsin, Indiana, Penn State, and the 101st meeting with That School Up North). The '02 season was just incredible to watch on TV, but now that I'm actually going to the games, it'll be a whole new experience.

I may have to wander down I-71 to catch a game. There are about 8 or 9 kids from the area and most of them are starters.

2 years ago, I believe. One of Penn's players from that team ended up warming the bench for the Lakers for at least the beginning of last season.

Yes, but the couple sports Columbia's actually good at -- fencing, cross country, and archery (shameless self-plug) -- no one really cares about.

And CU's football team has actually gotten better -- but considering the Ivies aren't allowed to participate in the I-AA playoffs, I don't consider their football teams to really count no matter how good they are. (Though CU does have two players right now -- possibly three -- in the NFL.)

Penn's got an awesome basketball arena -- sorta the Yankee Stadium of Ivy League hoops. I made the trip out to Philly once just to see it.

And yeah, considering one of the Killer P's *always* wins the Ivy title, I'm rooting for Penn half the time in the NCAA brackets as they get knocked out in the first round.

U of M...University of Michigan...I can go for Michigan State on occasion's but I will almost alway's take U of M over MSU anyday of the week.

The only time I was openly rooting for MSU is when they won the Final Four in 2000...I was a BIG Mateen Cleaves fan at the time. Too bad he did not pan out in the NBA. I remember when Joe Dumar's drafted him to play for the Piston's....I thought it was amatch made in heavan. Man was I wrong...Go Pistons!

ND- my bro goes there, and growing up Irish Catholic in a non college football state (NJ) we tended to root for them anyway.

I went to a 1-AA football school and root for them in the papers and once a year on homecoming.
