Van Halen sues Baltimore Orioles over failed concert deal

    Thursday, August 19, 2004

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    (08-19) 22:50 PDT BALTIMORE (AP) --

Van Halen is suing the Baltimore Orioles for at least $2 million, saying the baseball team reneged on a deal for a stadium concert featuring the rock band.

The Orioles approached Van Halen about performing on Sept. 2 at the team's Camden Yards, then backed out of the deal, according to a lawsuit filed Aug. 10 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. The action seeks damages for opportunities the band said it lost after it rearranged its schedule.

You're right, the stage is on Eutaw St. at the north end of the warehouse.

I caught the Cheap Trick show on 8/7. They came on stage about a half hour after the O's-Rangers game ended and played for about an hour and a half. They sounded great.... good time.

It must be tough being an O's fan under Angelos. He has to rely on either the Yankees to come to town or gimmicks to get the fans to show up.

Tomorrows gimmick is inducting Brady Anderson into the Orioles Hall of Fame. Let's see.... Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, Boog Powell, Earl Weaver, Frank Robinson, Cal Ripken, Brady Anderson..... Brady Anderson?!. That's just sad. What was once a proud orginazation is slowly becoming a joke.

I know, I heard that on the radio the other day and nearly got into an accident because I was laughing so hard. Brady Anderson? What's next -- David Segui Night?

    Exactly!

Maybe the Oriloes should sue Van Hagar for false advertisement for calling themselves Van HALEN when if fact Diamond Dave is not a part of this group.

Sammy and Eddie should just have a couple of Waboritas and stop whining over the fact that nobody cares about this tour as evidenced by the half empty arenas they perform in - all over the country.

The lawsuit should be brought by O's fans against Angelos for gross mismanagment of a public institution.

The whole time I'd seen one certain team a few hundred miles north of us getting rid of one certain star on their team, I'd kept thinking that it reminded me of how Eddie Van Halen went out of his way to absolutely trash David Lee Roth. I think he'd done the same w/Sammy Hagar too.

Strange how when people break up, one needs to trash the other. Geez, whenever people part ways, I guess the other guy's always at fault, huh?

Hey, I heard that Jeffrey Maier wants his own night at Camden Yards too. He'll be playing catch.

You've GOT to be kidding me! What'd that guy have, one good year?

If he makes it in their HOF, get a plaque ready for B.J. Surhoff.

everyone knows the "real" Van Halen has Gary Cherone as it's singer. and until he comes back to the fold, I consider these guys traveling the country under the Van Halen banner fakes.:finger1:

    Pretty typical of Angelos.

I don't think Van Halen would have been performing on Eutaw Street. The concerts there are usually postgame concerts; Baltimore will play in Toronto on 9/2, so I assume the concert was supposed to take place inside the ballpark.

Anderson was a fan favorite. Maybe he was inducted into the Orioles HoF because of all those pin-up posters (of him in his underwear) that his fans bought!
