Somethin' Brewin' in the Wrigley Confines

Did Cubdom in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field turning cheers into jeers for Sammy Sosa and now cheering for Nomar?

Sammy Sosa is havin' a rough time right now in Chicago's North Side. First the Sneezing incident to the DL and now this...

FYI this was already posted I believe...

That would sting pretty bad considering he's considered the new "Mr. Cub"

That said its pretty painfully clear what is wrong - his decline is a large part of having little plate patience again. Its as though all those years of drawing 100+ walks evaporates and now he can barely draw 60 while striking out 120+ times a year. That makes pitchers less afraid of you, gives you less home runs to hit, and lowers your other stats.

    Still, that's gotta sting

I think they should swap Nomar and Sosa in the lineup and bat Sosa 3rd and Nomar 4th. Sammy may get to see some better pitches in the at-bats.

It's worth mentioning that Sammy hasn't been the same hitter since the corked bat incident last year...

It's kind of like the kid discarding his favorite toy after getting a new, shiny one on Christmas. After all he's given the fans, all the bad teams he's had to endure while wasting his prime away with a smile on his face. Honestly, I really stopped caring about Cubs fans in general after they blamed terrible managing and a few unfortunate misplays on poor Steve Bartman. This is just a new low, I think. Sosa can't help it that he's past his prime. He's still every bit the offensive force as their new, shiny toy they've seemingly deified before he's even played a meaningful inning.

Yep. I think Steve Bartman is the only person left in America who got famous and didn't try to make one dime off it. He issued the one press release saying how sorry he was, and that was it. I really feel sorry for him, in that he can probably never go to a Cubs game then, and is still so reviled, for simply being overzealous in catching a foul ball.

Bartman wasn't why the Cubs lost that game -- don't forget that Florida scored 8 runs in that inning -- and Bartman had nothing to do with Game 7, where the Cubs were ahead 5-0 in the fifth with Kerry Wood on the mound and still lost the game. Blaming him for the Cubs losing that series is even more ridiculous than Orioles fans blaming Jeffrey Maier for the Yankees beating them in the playoffs.

I was wondering aloud in the NLCS, where a few games earlier, Dusty left Prior in for a regular workload in a game that was already a blowout by the time the 5th inning rolled around. The kid obviously had a large workload in the regular season, and just the year before had to be shut down due to fatigue. Dusty rid him like a horse all through the playoffs, and he obviously just fell apart that inning that is unjustly known as the Bartman inning. The Marlins were hitting everything hard when he was getting outs in the previous two innings, and watching the film again, his command and bite on his breaking stuff was all but gone. Does pulling Prior earlier in that previous start guarantee he's strong in that 8th inning? No, but it's way less likely that his pen would blow that 11 run lead, and that the chances were greater that he'd still be strong in that 8th inning of game 6 if he was given a blow when he could have used one.
