Maddux throws 2nd complete game in a row

    http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/m...ecap&fext=.jsp

CHICAGO -- It's 298 down and two to go for Greg Maddux.

Maddux got plenty of run support Thursday as Aramis Ramirez belted a grand slam and Moises Alou hit a pair of home runs to power the Chicago Cubs to a 13-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

It was Maddux's 298th career win, and he is now two shy from becoming the 22nd Major League pitcher to reach 300. Now 9-7, Maddux gave up two runs -- both on solo homers by Javier Valentin -- on four hits in his second straight complete game. He struck out six. And he needed 92 pitches over nine innings.
Looks like a repeat of last year when he sucked so bad in the first half of the season but started picking things up in the second half. God, I cannot wait until he pitches for his 300th win, which hopefully should be VERY soon. Just thinking about it reduces me to a squealing fangirl.
"I told them, 'You guys [Prior and Wood] are good,'" Dunston said. "'But this guy [Maddux] is the best.'"

Maddux has been SO up and down this year. I have him on my Fantasy team, and had him on the bench these past 2 starts because I did not know what to expect from him. Seems like he is either really good, or gets hammered. Well, I guess I know now to just pitch him!

He has no choice. Putting your chances at 300 in the hands of the Cubs' bullpen is like handing your baby to Michael Jackson next to a 2nd story window. Things might turn out OK, but there will definetly be unnecessary excitement along the way.

Whichever time you leave him in he will be bad and whichever time you take him out of the lineup he will be very good.

I had the same problem with my fantasy football team QB's!
I want to thank the Good Lord for making me a Yankee fan.

Yea that crap kills me. For kickers the day before I submitted lineups i took Craig Wilson out because he was slumping, then the day I turned lineups in, I put him back in, and he has been great ever since. Guess I just had to threaten him a bit.

He should've picked it up when the Cubs really needed him not when they were already burried in the division.
"He knew, as he went after that ball, that he had a decision to make," said Tony Clark, who watched the play unfold from first base. "Either you let the ball drop and try to minimize the damage, or you make the catch and pay the consequences. He knew that, no doubt about it, and he chose B."
