Grimsley to the Orioles; Bautista to the Royals

The Royals traded Jason Grimsley to the Orioles for Denny Bautista

    C/O Rotoworld.com

Royals acquired RHP Denny Bautista from the Orioles for RHP Jason Grimsley.
An outstanding start for Royals GM Allard Baird, who figures to trade several veterans for prospects over the next six weeks. Bautista's stock has dropped a bit this year, in part because he was found to be two years older than his listed age of 21. Still, he throws in the mid-90s and has a quality curveball. If he fails to develop as a starter, he'll probably be a great reliever. Even if the Orioles know something about his arm that we don't, the Royals still did very well here. Jun. 21 - 10:50 pm et

And we have an early contender for stupidest move of the year. The Orioles aren't going anywhere, and Grimsley is a 36-year-old middle reliever eligible for free agency at the end of the year. Just because the Orioles have a lot of nice young arms right now doesn't mean they can just give them away. This is simply a terrible move from Jim Beattie and Mike Flanagan, and it should leave Orioles fans concerned about what will happen when the team is ready to contend. Jun. 21 - 10:46 pm et

The dismantling of the Royals has begun. Great trade for them, what are the Orioles thinking?

Holy crap, the Orioles are dumb. They aren't even in contention and they made this trade. Great trade for the Royals.

The Orioles are very dumb. They might be the most disappointing team in baseball so far this season. Their hitting is good, but their pitching has been very slow to develop.

Man, Allard Baird comes out smelling like roses in this deal. Bautista will eventually become the Royals' closer, and Affeldt will go back to where he belongs in the starting rotation...

Sounds like it would be wise for Cashman to call the O's and see what they have to offer.

If the Royals can fleece the O's the Yankees may be able to as well.

Angelos doesn't do business with the Yankees.

Rewording his "The yankees are bad for baseball" argument yet again. I'm sure the Yankees are somehow to blame for the O's making a stupid trade.

This trade is the real reason the Orioles have been bad for a while now. You can't blame someone else when you are the one making the dumb moves.

Great trade for us. We get to play Baltimore 13 more times this season to watch Jason blow it for the birds!!

Does anyone want to tell me again how the Orioles are "much improved" from last year?

    Didn't think so.

Other than getting a few flashy players and a manager in Mazzilli, they haven't. Their quality and talent on the field has improved, but they can't seem to mend it together, which is reflected in their last place record. While they're trading away good players for bad, maybe they would take Heredia off our hands for Tejada. He could play second base for us then

    The Orioles are killing themselves.

Their pitching staff is pathetic. The Orioles didn't do anything to upgrade in that department.
