John Henry quote about possible NHL Lockout

"It's not about a salary cap. It's about making changes in the economics of baseball," said Boston Red Sox owner John Henry, who said changes are also necessary in his sport. "I can tell you right now, Gary Bettman is looking forward to the strike more than he's looking forward to the Calgary-Tampa Bay series."

just a little blurp at the end of the story, it's in the last paragraph.

Why should he shut up? All owners should be concerned about the LT welfare of the game, which, IMO, is in trouble if the economics are not altered. The Yanks aren't "evil," but I firmly believe there needs to be some sort of cap and floor put in place, among other changes.

I also believe that a cap is in some way necessary, as much as I love the Leafs/Red Wings and Yankees being able to buy the best players I do believe that a hard cap would make the game more interesting. I also believe that smaller market teams would be more willing to go out and get more players and spend more money if they were comfortable knowing that they had a greater chance of winning through price stability. I like the trade deadline speculation and anticipation but equality of salaries imo is a great way to ensure players are treated fairly while allowing the owners to continue making a profit. Case in point is the NFL cap, it allows imo for a rebuilding team to drop/trade a franchise player (re: Owens), and get some good replacements, and still compete. It also allows teams like the Panthers to go to the Superbowl because they have the ability to remain competitive in a league that does not allow one team to suck up a great portion of salary and great players. It also places a very large focus on development of talent, either through the draft, or NFLE or CFL, as opposed to just offering every player that produces 10-20 million per.
