i translated it good luck understanding it...

    http://www.laprensa.com.ni/cgi-bin/p...es-20040209-04

HOLY SUNDAY.- “The first time that saw Mario Holmann in the complex I asked myself: ¿and this dead person (bad player) who sent him? He lit up badly. Without technique, without spirit and with a strange form to throw the ball. Now I can pass all the day seeing it to play and myself does not bore. The boy has improved a world. It is elegant in his play and is seen that it enjoys what it does”.

Thus it is like Víctor Kills, director of the academy of the Yankees in Dominican, grafica the evolution of Mario, obtained by means of a constant effort and a tenacious will, that has brought like recognition, a ticket toward United States, where should be incorporated to a team of the leagues of novices, in the gear of the new york organization.

Very few players arrive Dominican in a year and al following go to United States. Even you figure like Mariano Rivera or Ramiro Mendoza they could not do that. But Holmann tronó strong in the campaign, and more than that, showed important progresses that obliged the executives of the Yankees, to assign him a visa of work and goes toward Tampa.

“It has touched me a great deal to know that I go to United States. One always it listens that does nobody pass from Dominican, but I came to play without prejudices and to show that deserved a chance and thanks to God they have given it me now”, it explains Holmann, it who concluded the season with. 311 of average, after acting in 39 parties and to consume 106 shifts.

Of no way the statistics are rejected, but according to the instructors that labor in the academy of the Yankees, the essential thing is that the player learn. The leagues do not be to gain play but to teach to play correctly the boys. And in the case of Mario, evidently satisfizo both requirements of the coaches.

“Its progress is notorious. I see it very different of the player that observe in the Play of El Salvador. Now its defense is sure and learned to bat to the left. It is a boy that lights up well, has good attitude and right now seems that it is ready to play in EE.UU.”, it says Small Heron, a key person in its it signs with the Yankees.

Now Mario sonríe, jokes and inspires confidence, but not all has been easy. Al start was seen it sad, missed its house and to its. The food caused it some problems and above all, had enormous doubts on capacity. In each position there is a minimum of four ballplayers in search to judge it to him and there was that to work hard. And that has done.

    ¿THAT it SAYS ITS COACH?

Freddy Tiburcio is the coach of I bat of the Yankees in Dominican. By its hands have passed quantities of prospects that now are big leaguers, such as Christian Guzmán, D’Angelo Jiménez, Eric Almonte and many more.

“Mario is a player in which we have a great deal of confidence. It learns quick and has desires to be someone. In a year learned to bat to the left and finished on. 300. Its mission is to maintain the ball in the flat because runs a great deal”, says.

“Right now it could play in any league Class TO in United States, but in front of him there are other previous players of generations and has taken the positions. But I do not doubt that he is going to fight and is going to grow”, he indicated Freddy Tiburcio.

That's cool. I don't even think he is their best DSL prospect, isn't that supposed to be Raul Dominguez (name?)?

Dominguez has played in the dsl for 3 seasons. He is not a prospect unless he is ready for high class A which is doubtful.

Ditto on both your posts, especially when it comes to having a 17 year old there, since the Yankees usually don't do that.

    MARCOS VECHIONACCI-3B-already at high A-ball

He may be on the roster, but he has not played. He may be at extended spring training preparing him for the rookie league starting at the end of June.

Why would he be on the active roster if not to play? When was the last time someone was put on an active roster w/ the intention of NEVER playing him? The other theory could be as a pinch runner, but why would you waste a kid's talent like that when he could be playing everyday in the field and getting AB's in extended Spring Training?

Does this mean Dominguez can't play in the GCL? I THINK 22 is the max age, so he may be able to start there but not finish there.

    What about Holmann?

    Thanks in advance!

There is no age limit in the GCL but there is on the numer of players 21 or older I think it is 3.

It just shows what the Yanks think of Holmann and Vechionacci. But do you think they will be w/ Tampa for the entire year? I think they will end up playing for either SI or Battle Creek.

I think more SI now. They probably will take the same route as Melky Cabrera.

If that's the case, why have them play as replacements at Tampa? When was the last time that happened? I may end up being wrong, but I think the Yanks think highly of them, enough to start at SI.
