Watching the hated Red Sox do something they have not done since 1913 (winning the first 6 of 7 games against us) killed me! I knew that I had never witnessed such a fiasco in my 30 plus years as a Yankee fan, but I never imagined it went back to before the curse!
Is this a sign that the curse will end this year? I know all things must end, all records are meant to be broken, but I am not convinced that it's time yet for Boston to beat us. Not this team, not this year.
I refuse to believe that this team is as bad as they have played thus far!
I've been a baseball fan too long to believe that a team that looks as good as they do on paper and with a manager like Joe Torre could ever be this bad. It's just a culmination of everything going wrong at the wrong time. Players aren't hitting, pitchers aren't pitching (making costly mistakes like the one to Manny) and fielders botching plays, etc. etc.
Yes, talent will prevail in the end, but luck/fortune is a very critical element in the game of baseball. Take Atlanta for instance. I live here so I get to see their games. They are not even in the same league talent wise with their arch rivals and defending champs Florida Marlins, but they have found a way to beat them 5 of 6 games! The fish are 11-1 against everyone else!!! Did the Braves pound them every game?
Nope. They beat them very much the same way the Sox beat us...in extra innings one game, a nailbiter another, a blowout in another, etc. etc. The similarities are scary.
Just as cream rises to the top, so shall our pinstripers!
