    Scooter the talking baseball

first the glowing puck now this:

    http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sp...404/14fox.html

This is not an April Fools Joke

Fox plans to debut this travesty during Friday's Yankee/BoSox game?

I appreciate that Fox is trying to get the younger viewer but why must it be at the knowledgeable baseball fan's expense. It is bad enough that I have to turn the Sound down on Buck & McCarver but I can't turn the screen off and still see the game.

    Why Fox Why?

I long for the good old days, when the Yankee playoff games were carried on 2 channels, one the Network feed and the local feed. For those of you that don't remember in the 70's, true Yankee fans would watch all the postseason games on Ch.11 with Phil, White, and Messer broadcasting audio over the network feed. I know Friday isn't a playoff game but it would be nice for the game to be on 2 channels. even if it was the Boston feed of the game, even Remy and Will's son are better than Buck McCarver

those days are long gone i'm afraid.

    Oh Good Lord.

I'm having flashbacks of the "streak" following the hockey puck.

Simple solution for those in the nyc area...turn the fox audio off and tune in Sterling and Steiner. The only negative is the audio and video aren't quite synced up , but certainly beats listening to Buck and McCarver drone on.

Wow. Well, Scooter's my favorite FOX Baseball broadcasting personality by default, now. If he takes air time away from Buck and McCarver, God bless him.

Can you tell me the gist of the article? I don't completely understand from what you posted. I went to register to read the article, but I'm not comfortable giving out all that personal info for a site I know nothing about.

    Thanks

You can't make this stuff up...

Scooter would be much better if it was voiced by Phil Rizzuto.

Honestly, I don't think this is a bad idea. One of the big knocks on MLB is that it doesn't cater to the youth of America. This may not be the best method, but at least MLB is now recognizing the problem and attempting to solve it.

I would love for it to be Rizzuto's voice too, but the kids wouldn't recognize his voice. If anyone would get the kids attention, it would be Spongebob's voice.

I think this cartoon baseball seems like a dumb idea BUT it'd be worth it if Scooter was voiced by Phil Rizzuto.

But Spongebob? What the hell is that?

As I said in my above post, Spongebob is a voice all the kids (and a lot of adults) will recognize and pay attention to, whereas most kids wouldn't recognize Scooter's voice.

ironically, the 1st time they used it, there as very little to no audio.

Turned out to be a big waste of time as did the HR tracker. I mean FOX had Manny's HR going out of the park?????

I thought Scooter was really annoying.......I hope there is a quick end to him!!

    Scooter was pretty awful.

It reminded me of Poochie from the episode of the Simpsons in which Itchy and Scratchy needed a ratings kick so they added a dog named Poochie, voiced by Homer.

First of all, it didn't sound like SpongeBob. Second, even if it did, it would still suck. That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever seen. No kid is going to sit down and watch a baseball game on Friday night because there is a dumb talking baseball. The whole charade pissed me off.

I gave up on scooter when he had to explain what a fastball is. That's just pitiful.

I saw the game last night and my reaction when I saw it initially was: What the **** is that?! It was bad enough when it was silent, but FOX just had to be courteous and reshow it another time with sound...
