I wonder if we will see all the press that surrounded the yankees loss to tampa bay. Boston is suppose to be the team to beat, so do they have a do or die game tomorrow. Obviousley they won't get the same treatment, but i would love to see it.

it's a pretty safe bet that you'll hear some negativity out of either Tony Massarotti from the Herald or the CHB at the globe over one loss. Also, with a day off until their next game, count on plenty of "is Pedro losing it?" nonsense out of WEEI
All I know is that a lot of Sox fans tonight have expressed very real concerns over Pedro.
Also, with Nomar and Nixon gone, that is a significant chunk of the offense gone...
Overall, Sox fans are still confident (and they have every right to be), but I think the media isn't really going to make a big deal out of it. They played the O's, which is a team that really is expected to strong in the AL. Tampa Bay, on the other hand, is a team that is still expected to suck.
The O's shouldn't be much stronger. They have a pretty solid offense, but their pitching isn't much better.Originally posted by WindRavenX

I would argue that Zambrano and Gonzalez are probably better than any pitchers on the O's. The D'Rays also have a pretty solid defense to back them up.Originally posted by Monkeyman

Lobel was having a field day on CBS4
Fenway Park goes dark now. For a while. No "Sweet Caroline." No "Dirty Water." No "Tessie" sweeping up on the big board while the Dropkick Murphys send everybody home with a smile. The only activity at the yard in the next 11 days will be the Sox grounds crew pondering where to put the World Series logo in the grass behind home plate. Dan Shaughnessy

Has anybody noticed we have a color option called "lemon chiffon?"
They have improved greatly over the off-season, I mean. They have been a pretty weak team the past 4 years (I mean, remember playing these guys in the mid 90's every year for the playoffs?), but they seem to be making a rebound. I didn't mean to suggest that they are better than the Sox, because clearly they aren't because lack of pitching depth. Still, Ponson is pretty decent, and with a much improved offense, the O's are still a pretty potent team compared with the last few years.Originally posted by Monkeyman

When did they decide to move R. Lopez to the pen? I thought he was supposed to be one of their starters? Yeah and the Sox will get the same treatment the yanks got...everyone will over react....it happens
2 out 4 is pretty good after going 0-86...

I'm sure that Schilling will hear "must win" thrown around a few times.

I know that CHB refers to a Boston writer. Who and what does it stand for? (If you can't state the actual words here because they are foul at least give us a hint so we know what the heck this means).

I think the story is that someone asked Carl Everett if he knew where Gord Edes (another Globe writer) was. Everett, who used to get ripped up regularly by Shaughnessy, replied "He's over there with his curly haired boyfriend."
the Yankees are the favorites to win it all in Vegas.Originally posted by phanfo@hotmail.com

Thanks, I knew Carl had "coined the phrase" so to speak, and it had something to do with Edes, but I couldn't remember the exact story.Originally posted by flutie22

.Of all the things in life I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
I am encouraged by Pedro's performance last night, the HR to Lopez being, in my opinion, his only quality mistake, the error etc was just sloppy play.
Even if the entire Yankee roster was injured and the Columbus Clippers got upgraded to MLB for a season, the Vegas odds on the Yankees would be skewed and they'd probably be amongst the favorites.Originally posted by NDBoston

Vegas' odds are balanced out by how many people bet for which team. The Yankees and the Red Sox are always "overbet" and thus their odds are extremely low. The Mets and the Dodgers also have a lot of people betting on them so their odds are low, too (not usually as low as Yanks/Sox, though).
That being said, I'd put $5 down on the Yankees if I were in Vegas...![]()
Believe me, we're all encouraged, too. Looking forward to winning by 10 games if he keeps on barely breaking 90.Originally posted by SueCaskeny

Wow. I guess even Carl EverRat has redeeming qualities. I think the hype will be about the same in Boston. On the national scene I guess the hype is a little bit more intense for the YANKEES. Any other sports franchise in the known universe would be a distant third for hype at most. What is the standard measure for hype? Should it be "Degrees Kelvin"? Maybe "PSI", or maybe just measure it in "Kilobuckets".Originally posted by OilCan

"Martinez didn't stick around to talk about things after the game. In fact, team guy that he is, Pedro left the ballpark before the game was over. He must not have been feeling properly respected, or something like that."
