Buchanan to play at free safety for Oakland

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1774514

For 11 NFL seasons, Ray Buchanan proudly carried the name "Big Play Ray" for his ability to make plays at cornerback.

On Friday, Buchanan made a big play in prolonging his career, agreeing to a five-year, $12 million deal with the Oakland Raiders to be a free safety first and cornerback if needed.

Part of that Atlanta secondary in which all the starters were benched last season, plus, he's old! Sweet! In seriousness, moving to free safety will keep him playing longer, so it's not impossible for him to finish out the 5 years. He doesn't have to be as fast to play the position either. A nice pickup, I think. Maybe he can make the transition as nicely and smoothly as Rod Woodson did it.

From reading the title, I thought you meant Philip Buchanon, and I was like, why would they do that? He's great at CB.

The only good thing that the Raiders have going for them is not having the Partiots on their 2004 schedule. They're wasting their time.
