I guess Spencer and Garcia are upset...

They must be pretty upset that they arent Yankees anymore...and they are on that "other" team in NY. Sounds like they are taking it out on anyone that they can find.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/06/sp...partner=GOOGLE

Mets outfielders Shane Spencer and Karim Garcia were involved in a confrontation Thursday night with two local men outside Duffy's, a restaurant-sports bar about a mile from the club's training base, Mets General Manager Jim Duquette said.

P.S. - Not sure if Im going to get yelled at for having this in the Yankee Discussion forum, but they ARE ex Yankees.

Hey, Paul Williams works with retarded kids, man. Give him a break. He was just waving that towel around because it was a hot fall night.

I read this quickly, and maybe you were being facetious, but did this have anything to do with their not being on the Yankees anymore? Were the people in the alktercation Yankees fans?

Well when I read it the first time I just laughed and then I had a similar thought after I posted it. I wouldnt be surprised if someone made a wise ass comment to the two of them about the Yankees...then next think you know Garcia is probably having flashbacks of Boston grounds keepers and thinking that Spencer is Jeff Nelson! "Come on Nellie...lets get 'em!"

Spencer was probably like, "Fine, but stop calling me 'Nellie,' you poof."

What a bonehead thing for Garcia to do with the Paul Williams lawsuit still hanging in the balance

I removed the original comments to be sensitive to those that may be affected with this situation. I don't think the original poster meant any harm, but I wanted to be sensitive(much like yourself) to those that may deal with this situation.

The point was only that the Boston media went too far in painting Williams as a choir boy.

    That's a fair statement.

On WFAN this morning Richard Neer said that Garcia and Spencer were with two women when this happened and no one knows for sure whether the women were their wives. Hmmmm...

It is a weird story -- I think the Post reported that Garcia and Spencer were with their wives, but Newsday said this happened:

""I yelled at him, 'Dude, you can't do that here,"' Bellow said. "Then he looked at me, he winked and says to me, 'You want to have some fun?' Then the manager came out and started yelling at him.""

That's a little, well, bizarre, particularly when Bellow was calling Garcia out for urinating in public.

Yep! The Times left out must of the juicy details of this story. Here's what Newsday reports:

"As for Thursday's incident, two of the teenagers, Joshua Morrison, 17, and James Bellow, 17, described a drunken Garcia "stumbling" out of Duffy's, a sports bar adjacent to Big Apple Pizza, and then urinating directly in front of the pizzeria. "

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think one of the reasons the Yanks were ambivalent about Spencer was because he liked the nightlife a little too much.

I have an idea for the Mets DJ at Shea everytime Spencer comes to bat play, "I love the nightlife" by Alicia Bridges

That's pretty much what today's Bill Madden column says:

I feel the need to point out the title of that article:

    Mets tolerate pee brains

Sorry if this is redundant, but has anybody clarified whether the peeing incident was the same as the pizza delivery guy incident?

It's the same thing. The pizza guy was mad that Karim Garcia was peeing in the parking lot by the pizza place.

Turns out that that the Pizza Guy's story has some major holes:

Police Note Incongruity in Mets Accuser's Report
    By LEE JENKINS

    Published: March 10, 2004

ORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., March 9 — While Karim Garcia and Shane Spencer wait to offer the police their version of events, the man who accused them of simple battery has some conflicting elements within his own report.

I'm sorry... I think this is still no relief for Garcia...
