    (Rumor) -- Sox pursuing Pujols?

This was a rumor posted in the Boston Dirt Dogs site. According to a poster Boston has offered David Ortiz, B. Kim, a top prospect and cash to St. Louis for Albert Pujols. Now IF the rumor about the Yanks offering Soriano and Navarro for Pujols is true and it was turned down, I'd be shocked if they'd even consider this. (Assuming that it's a valid rumor. The post said this is coming out of St. Louis).

Pujols is the future of St. Louis. They plan (and it is a good plan) to build their team around him. Why oh why would they trade him for Ortiz and the like?

Pujols will be the best player in baseball in 3 years and he'll hold that title for a long time. There's no way the Cards will get rid of him, especailly with the revamped Cubs and Astros to deal with 35+ times a year.

    Red Sox fans dreaming...

    It's complete BS.

Pujols isn't a free agent until the 2007 season. He's not going anywhere.

    These rumors are ridiculous.

Yeah, but OUR rumors come true. hahahaha

And before you say "Greg Maddux", check my posts -- I have constantly said Maddux was jonesing to return to the Cubs, and Brian Cashman has constantly said the Yanks had no interest.

Boston can seriously dream on if they think St. Louis is gonna give up their best player

I think it's BS myself, but the funny thing is SOME fans think Pujols is better than ARod now in the Dirt Dogs site.

Pujols is the centerpiece of their future plans. I don't see why they'd trade him. He is argueably, the best player in baseball as it is & CHEAP. He just doesn't play the sexy position.
"He knew, as he went after that ball, that he had a decision to make," said Tony Clark, who watched the play unfold from first base. "Either you let the ball drop and try to minimize the damage, or you make the catch and pay the consequences. He knew that, no doubt about it, and he chose B."

Whoa... this rumour is utter nonsense put out by a hack radio host in St. Louis. All my contacts say it's crap and St. Louis may be reaching a long-term deal with Pujols (7-years possibly) before tomorrow's hearing.

This rumour never appeared on BostonDirtDogs.com. It's being discussed on RedSoxNation.net, a discussion linked from BDD.com. Just to clarify.

That's where it was from, that is correct. I think it is a far-fetched internet rumor myself.

That's not so far fetched. The main reason that ARod got #1 player in the league status was that he played SS.

Pujols had some ridiculous numbers last year....he's VERY young...I'd hate to see him in Boston.

That said, I am sure that St Louis will exhaust all of their options with him before looking to deal him.

I'm going to get smacked for this, I just know, but . . .

If the Sox had a really good (read: Cotts-quality) pitching prospect, and added Kim and Ortiz plus a little money, that could get the job done. Less probably wouldn't. St. Louis are short of cash, so adding Ortiz and Kim for Pujols straight up wouldn't help much. They also really need the pitching help, especially if Morris leaves for free agency next year.

To be honest, I'd like that trade for the Yankees. Kim has a decent chance to be the third-best starter for the Sox this year, in my opinion, and Ortiz could well perform close to his 2003 level. Together, I think they're worth more than Pujols (although they cost more, and probably have more risk associated). But you'll be overpaying for Pujols because of his contract value and time locked up (until 2007?), not to mention you've got to pry him loose from the Cardinals fanbase. Rodriguez was a refugee, Pujols is a star attraction. Big, big difference.

But it seems very unlikey. Sox would have to overpay, and Epstein is one of the smartest bargainers out there from what I've seen.

It is far-fetched unless you ignore defense as part of the game. Offensively I agree they are very comparable, but Pujols is not good in the field.

Cardinals aren't Arizona. They will not give up a great player for that

no way the cards will trade one of their best players.

Firstly, Boston Dirtdogs is not a credible website. Secondly, there is no way the Cards would do that deal.
“I mean, people knew that Brown was out there, and that Randy was ornery all the time. And Pavano is whoever he is. But if you’re their manager, you can’t go out and write about them like that.

Cards also are running into $ issues and are very concerned about losing Pujols due to $ (turned down 5-year / $60mm or something like that); I believe he's arbitration-eligible after this year and could be a big $#.

He's elegible now and he'll set the new record for 3rd year players (If I'm not wrong he requested 10.5 Mi and the Cards offered 8 Mi), but he stays under team control for more three years.
Of couse if he signs a long term with the Cards he'll be very well paid but IMO that won't come even close to A-Rod's deal.

oh - thanks for the correction. and, no, it won't approach ARod, of course.

It's not a BDD.com story. Maybe you should read a thread before posting in it. Helps build credibility.

Any rumor that starts on the internet is hardly reliable regardless of which one.
