I think Vegas would be pretty awesome. What does everyone think about them maybe moving to San Juan or Monterrey?? That would be pretty wild. I have no idea what the guy from DC is talking about....what about the Orioles??? By the way, not to get off the original subject, but does anyone know what they are talking about a Baseball World Cup????
They can't seem to make any progress on this issue.
Watching Major League Baseball decide where they are going to move the Montreal Expos to is like watching paint dry. It is somewhat unbelievable how they seem to delay the process every step of the way. In the last two years, they have made almost no progress on this issue. Now word comes from the Washington Post that the modest step they were supposed to take yesterday, which was to cut the list of candidate cities down from 8 to a smaller number.
The seven known candidates are: Washington, DC; Hampton Roads, VA; Las Vegas, NV; San Antonio, TX; Monterrey, Mexico; Portland, OR; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
"We had a good discussion. We have a lot of good candidates," MLB's president and chief operating officer Bob DuPuy said in a brief interview with the Washington Post during the first of MLB's two-day quarterly owners meetings. DuPuy estimated another month or two before the list is cut down.
For their parts, some of the candidates seem very confident. "I don't think it matters how long the list of potential cities is," Fred Malek, head of the DC group said. "We have by far the best market not presently served by Major League Baseball."
"Whenever baseball's ready, we'll be ready," said Gabe Paul of the Virginia group commented.
Next on the agenda is a baseball World Cup. We'll see if they can make any progress on that issue.
