Have you heard any rumours where Maddux may land now that the Padres are out of the picture?

Global Warming and climate change hysteria could well represent the historical pinnacle of collective insanity.
I've heard no new rumors. There was talk of him going to Arizona or maybe even back to Chicago.

I heard that now that the Padres got Wells, they are out of the running. So I guess that leaves the Cubs and Cards. I would bet on the Cards on winning out. I also would bet that he won't get more then a 2 year contract if he gets that. I would love to hear Boras explain to Maddux and everyone else why he didn't get the 4 years 40 million dollar contract he said he would get.![]()

Look for Maddux to stay in the NL - and I'd bet on St. Louis as well.

Maddux does not have to rush- if he contacts you team, they will make a spot for him. Come late-January, early Feb, teams will take a longer look at their rotations and decide they need to fortify. Maddux will also be likely to accept a one-year deal too- gets him to 300 wins.
I look for a team needing three things- first- a middle of rotation starter who comes in at less than $8 million per, second- a ticket seller (the quest for 300), third- a veteran who knows pitching. There are several teams that Maddux will likely contact.
I believe that St. Louis would be high on his list- LaRussa appreciates veterans more than most. LA may be in play with Brown out, and a Perez trade still likely. I think the Giants are a sleeper as Alou is VERY familiar with him from playing against him with Montreal, and they have a lot of young starters who could use a good mentor. Finally, I expect the Astros to call if Clemens stays retired (I think Clemens comes back, but that's another story).
He`s done, he`s had it, let him play for Bobby V in Japan.
Wait just a minute and let's see what happens next. He's not done yet....his career has been great enough for him to hang around a while longer.Originally posted by Michaels07

Maddux is going to have to come down from his contract demand for 4 years at $10 million per. If he'd accept a one year deal with an option, there would be alot more interest.

I think he will go to the Cardinals. The Cardinals need another established starter in their rotation. If they sign Maddux, they would have Morris, Williams, and Maddux as their top three starters. Throw Suppan and Simmontacchi in there as well, and it is an immense upgrade from last season's starting rotation for the Cards.
Let's Go Yankees!
The only question is, will the Cards cough up the money necessary to sign Maddux?

How much is the necessary amount? I only see the Cards and the Cubs in the picture. I doubt the Cubs will offer him more then a year since they have to have money to resign Wood in the offseason. I think he will end up having to accept a 1 year deal with an option.Originally posted by nyyfanatic85
