    Giants' coach Jim Fassel fired

I'm hearing that he's be canned. I just heard it on WCBS880-AM, and he finishes up the last two remaining games of the season.

I thought the Giants would wait till the season was over...

So G-fans, who's your next coach?

Figured it was only a matter of time. Fassel's gonna stay on and coach the remaining games. "Among the possible successors to Fassel are LSU coach Nick Saban, former Jaguars coach Tom Coughlin, and the Patriots' two coordinators: Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis. Coughlin, Crennel and Weis were Giants assistants under Bill Parcells. "

Interesting timing. I think it will be Coughlin.

fassel is not the main culprit for the giants' lack of success this season. injuries, underachievement, the players basically giving up on the season 3 weeks ago, etc. are also factors. while it is somewhat unfair for the coach to be the scapegoat, firing him will turn out to be the right move. the giants need someone who their players will enjoy playing for, and fassel isn't the guy.

as for this vacancy, this will be one of many jobs available for next season. coughlin sounds like the most likely candidate, since he currently is not in a head coaching job, and I think Saban would hesitate about taking the Giants job if he even wants to consider it. He's got a good thing going at LSU, and he shouldn't leave it behind (note to Spurrier: find some way to return to Florida, b/c you're doing crap in Washington).

I'd like to see Dennis Green come in, but word is he's going to be the main candidate at Atlanta (sorry Deion). Tom Coughlin did well as Jacksonville's first coach, but he lost them after 3 years and they fell into the depths of the AFC and haven't returned since. It will be interesting. At least the Giants beat the Jets this year though.

yes he is going to wait for the rest of the season thats exactly what he said. "hes going to finish up the 2 games"
Okafor explained afterwards. "I just saw this orange object floating in the air and it said 'grab me'. I grabbed it, spun, saw the rim, thought it would be a good idea to put it in, and that's what I did."

I'd like to see Nick Saban as new Giants coach after he wins the Sugar Bowl.
