I'm the one who helped him pack his bags back in that pic.

Thank you! But I was aiming more for his face that they showed during the end of the game, where he was sitting alone from the rest. Similar to last year.
EDIT: But any picture of him will do...

I don't like Bonds, but knowing what it was like for the Yankees to be eliminated last year in the 1st round, after having been to the WS the year before, I feel for the guy. I don't want to feel bad for him, but I do. His window is quickly closing.
"He knew, as he went after that ball, that he had a decision to make," said Tony Clark, who watched the play unfold from first base. "Either you let the ball drop and try to minimize the damage, or you make the catch and pay the consequences. He knew that, no doubt about it, and he chose B."
Until I see him shed a tear, he gets no sympathy from me. Of course, him crying after a loss/win, will never, EVER happen.

OBP over .600 and OPS over 1.000. I said this in the other thread, I know, but I just don't get the Bonds hatred that goes on. While we're bitching, one of the best players to ever play the game is finishing out his last few seasons. And I think the continually negative media and fans are making him angry, unhappy, and sullen.
Now, when Pedro Martinez gets eliminated, that will be funny.

I feel bad for Bonds, but it's his own fault the fans/media don't like him.... historically, he's acted like a real ******* and his own teammates don't like him, even if they respect him.

Are you sure? Let's compare the careers of McGwire and Bonds. Both were very popular at home, but somehow McGwire became a national icon, whereas Bonds was - and is - the more complete player. Now, I don't particularly like Bonds' approach to the media and fans, but he makes a fair point - he doesn't owe the rest of the world a slice of his life. If he wants to be left alone and play ball, Bernie Williams style, shouldn't he be allowed to? I mean, I wish Bonds could be media-friendly, but it ain't gonna happen. Given that, shouldn't we back off and let the guy hit? Wouldn't we allow Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle the same room, despite their chequered conduct off the field? Didn't we?

You make a good point about us missing out on one of the best players to play the game of baseball, but doesn't mean we're supposed to like him, or enjoy watching him play. May I remind you that the fans pay his salary. The way he approaches the game: thinking he's bigger than the game itself, his "media is rascist" views, and that huge armor on his arm. What, the rules don't apply to you?!
Oh, and finally he badmouthed the greatest player and one of the forefathers of baseball. All that, plus more.
Now about seeing Pedro lose, that won't be so bad either.
P.S. I'm missing out on another great player, which is Shaq, but like Bonds, I despise him too. Unlike Bonds, O'neal plays in Basketball, but it's the same idea.

Us Yankee fans tend to be hypersensitive about comments about Babe Ruth. Did he say anything approaching Pedro's comments? I can't remember him saying anything except that he wanted to beat Ruth's record. Doesn't outrage me.
Baseball fans don't pay his salary, the Giants do. Bonds took a hometown discount - and plenty of deferred/optional cash - to stay in San Francisco. Giants fans seem to like him just fine, and they're the ones paying for tickets. Let's see how many want Barry to play for the Dodgers, eh?
The 'media is racist' thing isn't particularly adult, no. But if I had just shattered the seasonal home run record, was making opposing pitchers scared to pitch to me, and had established myself in the top 10 of baseball players all time, I might get a little ticked that I seem to be a national scapegoat while McGwire rides happily off into the sunset, despite being pretty limp my last few seasons. Oh, and that I seem to have acquired the reputation of a postseason choker despite virtually beating the Angels single-handed in 2002. Maybe just a little tetchy.
Can't defend the armor, I suppose. He's been given an advantage until umpires tell him to lose it, and he's using it. I can think of a few analogies involving the Yankees and money . . .

I can respect him, but it's my right not to like him because of his lousy personality. Who says I have to like him? Mantle, Ruth? They were Yankees. There's no reason why I need to like Bonds and his attittude. Back off? Sure... I'm nowhere near him anyway. Just my opinion.
The media doesn't vilify Bonds, they jackoff to him because he is a great player. But part of his bad rep had to do with the fact that prior to last year he had done nothing to help the Giants when he got to the playoffs. He had a bad history of chocking. Obviously, he's shed that, but he made his bed, he lies in it.

Okay. Hey, it's not my place to tell you who to like and dislike. There are plenty of English soccer players I hate, even if they're really good, but in my case it's because they're thugs or outright cheats. What Bonds does is little more than gamesmanship or being aloof, which are frankly small potatos in comparison to trying to cripple opposing players (see Keane, Roy or Martinez, Pedro). Babe Ruth wasn't too fair to his wife, if you remember. Ted Williams wouldn't acknowledge the Fenway Crowd. Bob Gibson appeared to want to kill opposing batters.Originally posted by Blind_Umpire

Bonds isn't the worst person out there, and he's the best player. I'm going to be sorry when he leaves, especially if it's the fans and the media that have driven him to go before his time.

I respect the way you are making your point Sax, but he just rubs me the wrong way.... I just don't like his personality. Heck there have been plenty of Yankees that I didn't "like", but have respected.

Good points all around, but him eclipsing Marris' single season HR record, wasn't as big of a deal when McGwire has first done it. Nobody before McGwire could have gotten more than 61 homers in a season, until McGwire himself done it in 1998. That, and the great chase of '98 that the public and the nation just adored and tuned into everyday, to watch for the first time something that hasn't been done in a while. Two guys chasing one record that stood for over 37 years, and thought of unapproachable. Now that Bonds did it, couple years later, it doesn't look like a big deal anymore, than it was in '98. Not neccesarily the media not hyping it up, because a black player accomplished it.Originally posted by Saxmania

I'm sorry but his comments toward Ruth were unexcusable. Especially when he suggested we should forget about his existence. I don't know about you, but that was uncalled for.
And along with the Giants' fans, other fans from different cities can too pay his salary. I don't pay his contract, because I don't buy anything with his name or face on it, but others do. For what percentage that accounts, I, a fan of NYY, too, can help pay his money.
Lastly, about the armor, I heard that he wears it because he broke his arm or shoulder, and he has to wear it to protect it. I don't find that to be a good reason at all...if it's true.

Tell ya what. After Robert Fick just reached up and knocked the ball out of Eric Karros' hand after being thrown out by Kyle Farnsworth, I'm going to hate him from now on. (He got called safe, in case you're not watching.) Then everyone's happy.
