Remember those free agents from the 80s and how *some* became quite unproductive?

Let me throw some names for good measure...

    Steve Kemp
    Ron Kittle
    Toby Harrah
    Roy Smalley
Rickey Henderson (good player with ego problem)
    Mel Hall
    Ken Phelps

...Like to add to the list? Feel free

Actually, some of these guys came in trades rather than as free agents. Phelps came over for Jay Buhner. I also think Roy Smalley did a decent job during his three years here (especially the middle one).

A few of the other "name" players (mostly pitchers) who didn't work out:

Rick Rhoden (gave up Drabek for him)
    Rick Reuschel
    John Montefusco
    Jesse Barfield
    Bill Gullickson
Phil & Joe Niekro (gave up Jim DeShaies for Joe)
    Steve Trout
    Walt Terrell
