    Arte Moreno, New Angels Owner! I Like This Guy Already!

    "Beer in the bleachers is $8.50. I can go around the corner and get one for a buck-and-half," Moreno said. Asked if he was thinking about lowering the price, he said, "I'm not thinking about it. I'm going to do it."
    "This is sort of like living the American dream," Moreno said. "You get to come the ballpark and get a free beer."
    Now that's what I'm taking about!

    Yeah, that's exactly what baseball needs -- cheaper beer.

    Beer should be banned from ballparks.

    That's silly. The overwhelming majority of fans can behave themselves while still drinking, and the stadium merely needs to provide adequate security to guard against those few who can't. And banning beer accomplishes little anyway - any guy who decides to run on the field or otherwise cause problems is a big enough lout that he'll just get tanked before the game if he knows he can't get tanked at the game.

    Statistically maybe, but in practice it's a bit different. Say there are 58,000 people at the Stadium. Say only half of them are drinking, that's 29,000. Not let's go really, really conservative and say that only one half of one percent of those people become jerkoffs when they drink. That's 145 people. That's a hell of a lot of jerkoffs if you ask me.

    Most venues could make more money if they lowered the price of beer, but they charge so much at least partially in an attempt to discourage people from having more than 2 or 3.

    If people are willing to pay the 8 bucks for the beer so they can get drunk...then it sould remain 8 bucks.

    I'd rather have the sodas and hotdogs cheaper so a guy can take his family to a game and not have to shell out 50 bucks (besides the tickets) to enjoy the 3 hours with his kids.

    Why is it that people insist on slapping band-aids on problems?Removing beer from games is not fixing the problem! It's like what happened years ago in morris county when they wanted to build a new jail, no one wanted it in their town.
    Well, instead of fixing the problem, namely lowering crime, the answer was to just build a new jail. But nobody wants to see that.

    Some problems are unfixable, and therefore a bandaid is used to at least reduce the problem a bit.

    You do? Personally I think that thundersticks, cell phones, and team mascots should be banned from ballparks.

    The issue here was banning alcohol in response to fans running on the field. Clearly there are fewer than 145 people running on the field at an average game, and clearly those few who do are not normal people who just had a bit too much to drink. They're complete idiots even before drinking, and probably likely to drink elsewhere before the game if they can't drink at the game.

    If you're trying to say that there will be less annoying behavior at baseball games without alcohol, I would agree that you're probably right. But I don't see why that's a goal to try and achieve. I go to my share of yankee games each year, and have for a long time, and almost never feel annoyed by fans around me. (In the bleachers yes, but I don't sit in the bleachers anymore for just that reason). I've gone to games with young cousins, and neither I nor their parents felt any concern about the behavior around them. 145 louts out of almost 60,000 people is not something I consider a problem. {shrug}

    As for the Angels owner, he seems like a good guy, really does. Too bad I hate his team.

    Right, but that's hardly unfixable. There are jerkoffs everywhere you go in life - that's unfixable. But go to the theater, or the opera, or the movies, and if people behave like jerkoffs, they get kicked out. If the yankees want to remove jerkoffs from their games (which clearly they don't given how rowdy the allow fans to get before actually throwing someone out) all they have to do is get more aggressive in warning and removing fans. Quite simple really.
